I have received a copy of an August 31 memo Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner sent to aldermen. Click to enlarge:

At the August 28 Aurora City Council meeting, the mayor promised an open, thorough, independent investigation of Planned Parenthood and its false front operator, Gemini Office Development.
This means the mayor has reneged on at least that portion of his word for an investigation with no timeline, requiring in an August 31 memo to aldermen that it be completed by September 12 – when the investigator has not even been chosen yet!

In a previous display of smarminess, the mayor originally appointed an investigator, attorney Richard Martens, who had ties to the law firm representing the very Aurora Planning and Development Committee to be investigated. Incredible.

Addendum, 10:11a: As first commenter jasper pointed out as did the mayor in his memo, the reason September 12 is important is because it’s the day before the next City Council meeting, the last before Planned Parenthood temporary occupany permit expires on September 17. The mayor apparently wants no lag time before issuing a permanent occupany permit for PP’s planned opening day, September 18.
Talking points to mayor and aldermen who have not expressed concern about Martens and timeline deadline:

Richard Martens has a conflict of interest because of his connection to the City’s law firm.

A truly independent investigator should be chosen by unanimous City Council vote.

The City Council should should vote in an open session for total transparency.

No deadline should be imposed on the investigation.
