Lunch Break: They Chose Me! (The option of adoption)
In honor of Sanctity of Human Life Month…
Typically not much press is given regarding adoption but on the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I intentionally wanted to highlight this great but oftentimes overlooked option.
As a former pregnancy care center advocate in the Chicagoland area, too often young pregnant women opted to either carry to term or abort. Only a handful of women that I personally counseled over 14 years chose to adopt. I was amazed at their selfless, mature decision – being so baby focused as opposed to being self focused.

Well, barring a miscarriage, all pregnant women have to either carry to term or have an abortion, don’t they? The ones who put their babies up for adoption carried to term, they just didn’t raise the babies.
It’s 2011, and isn’t it time the so-called feminists embrace pregnancy? Why can’t a girl go to her college classes pregnant while she makes arrangements for a loving family to adopt her child? Why can’t a married mom of 3 carry her 4th child and show his siblings, look- financial hardship is not a death sentence! Why can’t an ordinary working woman, unmarried, who becomes pregnant, carry her child and not be ashamed? If we are woman enough to go to college and hold jobs and do all the other things we do, we can be woman enough to be compassionate. That means no snarky remarks like ”can you believe she’s going to carry that baby and then give it away?” Yes, we can believe it, so be supportive, like a real woman should.
Killing one set of babies through abortion and then charging couples tens of thousand$ for fertility treatments and IVF cycles is INSANITY. Adoption is not only compassionate, it just makes more sense.

Because that just doesn’t fit with the image of independence/”who needs a man” mentality the feminists want to portray, or the Playboy bunny/ever sexual but never getting pregnant good times girl Hollywood wants to portray. Let’s face it – the image of motherhood is under assault from every side. Unless, of course, you’re a thirty-something Hollywood starlet who gets pregnant by her actor/model boyfriend whom she’s been shacking up with and whom she refuses to actually marry. In that case, it’s “cool” to show off your baby bump.
