Lunch Break: Bidding ends on Princess Beatrice’s wedding “hat”
by LauraLoo
UPDATE 5/23, 6:30a: People Magazine reports the hat that got a million tongues wagging – the pretzel-shaped fascinator atop Princess Beatrice’s head on Royal Wedding Day – has been sold to an anonymous bidder. The price? $130,000 - and it’s all going to charity.
UPDATE 5/21, 9a: As of this morning there were 108 bids at almost $130,000. However, the listing has now been removed from eBay.
5/20, 12p: Love it or hate it, the funky hat that Princess Beatrice wore to the Royal Wedding is proving to be worth a bundle on eBay.
Beatrice, 22, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, put the hat up for auction for charity – and the current bid on the Philip Treacy oddity is now £20,200, or more than $30,000.

“I’ve been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted,” Beatrice writes on the eBay listing. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have.”

Good for her for being able to laugh at herself and use the publicity to do some good.
Great idea – but too bad she is supporting UNICEF – they support abortion. If they want to truly help children – she should support a charity that champions helping all human children – including the unborn. Hopefully this $ will go for food, shelter, medical services – not including abortion or anything like that.
Too funny to see the hat on Charlie! LOL.
Good on her for being such a good sport about it. :)
She’s a cheeky bugger, that Beatrice.
Doug, The word “bugger” is used in England the same as the word “Fu–er” is here.
It’s a pretty filthy word.
Now, now, Pamela, don’t get your knickers in a uproar… : D

It’s really like “naughty” in a not-too-bad way. It’s considered a breach of etiquette to wear a hat that upstages the bride – and perhaps the Queen in this case – or that does not fit with the formality of the occasion.
I think Beatrice and Eugenie pushed the envelop due in part to a feeling of defiance, as their mom, Fergie, didn’t get invited to the wedding.
What is it with the queen and Fergie? I always thought her and Andrew made a really cute couple. And if all Beatrice did was wear an outrageous hat I think the queen got off easy.
I used to think it looked like a Christmas cookie mold. Now I think she borrowed it from a teletubbie.
I think this “hat” looks like an inverted toilet seat in the middle with a bow and some swirly ribbon cascading down the sides.
I could not believe my eyes when I saw this live the morning of the Royal Wedding. I wonder how the thing even stays on the head of the wearer.
Joy, I thought UNICEF supported abortions. Too bad another charity couldn’t be one of the recipients.
Finally, I totally agree with Doug – the stars of the Royal Wedding were the married couple, still-eligible bachelor Harry, Kate’s cute-cute sister Pippa and Beatrice (or, rather, the “hat”). :)

LOL
(And you hardly ever see me saying that.) Ha! Love it, Hans.
