Principal Sheila Tillett has also been placed on leave pending an investigation of “the distribution of the life-like forms… [that] shocked and repelled some parents and teachers and School Board members,” according to The Virginian-Pilot, May 21

In the context of a biology lesson, this would be completely appropriate.

I love when those it positions of authority say things like, “To be quite honest” as if saying this will reassure us that they always are. Ack!
Oh, and there’s a typo in Kirk’s statement. The word ‘founded’ needs to be deleted.

But of course they would feel it wasn’t appropriate, there wasn’t a Planned Parenthood card with an 800 # to call so the little kiddies would know what to do if after having sex ed shoved down their throats in 3rd grade the condom the school nurse gave them broke!!!
I don’t see why they were so angry? It would be a great tool if any of those students have a pregnant mom…….so they can see and hold a figure of what their sibling looks like before birth.
NOT INAPPROPRIATE!
Add to my reminder list of “Reasons Why I Homeschool”:
Incompetent, unqualified school board members who believe educating students about human development is somehow “disturbing.”
I’d also like to add that I have a fetal model at 11 weeks gestation (Thanks, Jacque!) that I use to show my much younger children exactly what their little brother looked like at that point in the pregnancy when we told them I was pregnant.
Their response? 5y/o “A BABY!” 18 mth old “Baby!”
I don’t think they were exactly tramatized by the event. Now they both like looking at the ultrasound of their little brother and looking at the pictures online.

My kids went to my town’s Catholic School until 5th grade. Then the older ones went to the local public middle school. During this time, I started working at the public school. After seeing the reality for myself, my youngest is now attending a Catholic middle school one town over. An administrator told me I am great with the students but not so good with the adults. I told him I was hired to work with the students not schmooze with the adults. I talk about the humanity of the unborn with kids any chance I get. I’m not real liked by many of the adults and know my days are numbered in this district.
Kids should get to run for school board. Our schools would improve.
Should have handed out condoms. The employee would be receiving an award by now.
Everybody knows public school employees are supposed to encourage students to experiment sexually and then refer them to Planned Parenthood to get scraped out. Actually EDUCATING the kids isn’t the school’s job!
Well color me shocked. The same people who complain about the “liberal indoctrination” of kids in public schools suddenly think this form of indoctrination is perfectly acceptable.
Because the liberals are not being put on administrative leave Mardupissa.
Marissa…how is biological information about human development “indoctrination” exactly? Wow. They must really be indoctrinating those docs in med school!
Have you had a child Marissa? Any of us here who have carried a baby can attest that the child’s life begins well before birth. My son was alive at my 5 week ultrasound with a beating heart and arms and legs. He was alive at my 5 month ultrasound as he moved around and wiggled his toes and proudly showed us he was a boy. He was alive at my 6 month ultrasound where we watched him wink and yawn and suck his thumb. I felt him moving every day for over 5 months. He was ALIVE. That is biological fact. I know it doesn’t help your baby killing cause any, but hey, the truth hurts sometimes.

So, educating kids about basic biology = indoctrination? Please, tell me you’re joking. If not, that’s just insane.
the people who have no problem with 10 year old bobby getting free condoms in “Health class” have a problem with ten year old Susie getting a fetal model so she knows what she looked like before she was born. Or perhaps her baby brother or sister who her mother is pregnant with….*gasp*
Anything that shows the TRUTH about human development PRE BIRTH is illegal, but a piece of rubber (and learning to put it on a BANANA!) is just fine and dandy…….I see a HUGE problem with this.

If it was simply a random handout in class I’m not happy with it.
Why?
Because if she/he can do this what might someone else handout? condoms? PP cards? info on how to do drugs safely?
If it were done in a class where fetal development were being discussed that would be different.
I would say something like this would be appropriate in high school, where a prolife teacher comes in with the fetal development models and these are given out.
I’ve used these in sidewalk counselling and they work.

I don’t know about elementary schools but the above starts happening at some middle schools.
I was just supervising at a middle school dance last week. Two of the songs played were: Big and Rich’s Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy and ACDC’s She Shook Me all Night Long. I don’t believe these lyrics are 6-8 grade appropriate but based on my complaint history, nothing will be done to the teacher who owns and played the music.
I don’t think this board will OK these fetus dolls be handed out in an elementary science or health class. Otherwise the board would meet her half-way and tell her to save the dolls for classtime and she wouldn’t be on administrative leave and this wouldn’t make the news.
However, it’s a good thing that this type of stuff does make the news. Jesus is working here too!
Let’s be perfectly clear. The only reason these morally bankrupt, spineless academics have an issue with someone exposing to the light of day the beauty and miracle of human life in its early stages of development is that they want to reserve the right to dismember and kill these little children if they want to.
To those of us that love Life and love children, these dolls are precious and awe-inspiring.
To the pro-death mob, they are “inappropriate…unacceptable…disturbing” because they have already decided in their evil hearts that they want to be able to kill their children if they “choose” to and don’t want to be confronted with the truth of the beauty of preborn human life or the wickedness of their own hearts.

I realize Praxedes that the schools you are involved with are very different from the elementary school my daughter attends.
There is no bullying, no drinking, no drugs and definitely no sex.
It’s a rural school and quite small.
I just can’t imagine a teacher coming into class with these models unless they were doing some sort of instruction.
And I know a friend of mine who does prolife presentations in the local high schools (most the Catholic ones) does take in the fetal models.

I’m guessing she was instructing students on human development. I have brought in different plants/flowers/seeds and showed students these. I guess I better be more careful . . . .
Many antichoicers I talk to speak about the “parental rights” of adults to be in charge of the sexual/reproductive education of their kids.
How do you all feel about the fact that these fetus-dolls were given out without the parent’s permission?
One parent was quoted as saying:

This would not even be an issue if we as a country were not killing tiny humans by the millions. Those who kill their children either repent or attempt to remain in denial. It’s beyond stupid to claim that a child is injured to see what he or she looked like at a younger age.
