Stanek weekend question: Which GOP presidential candidate is strongest on the life issue?

During Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate, candidates Tim Pawlenty and Michele Bachmann got into a couple scuffles, one involving abortion. Bachmann accused Pawlenty of using the pro-life issue to get a tax hike…

During the same debate candidate Rick Santorum eloquently explained why he opposes a rape/incest exception to abortion…

Under the bus: The Planned Parenthood concession Obama and Reid did make

UPDATE 4/12, 8:52a: It has also occurred to me that this concession by Obama and the Democrats demonstrates their bond with Planned Parenthood is not impermeable. I’m sure PP was not at all happy about this. But apparently Obama/Democrats felt forced to give Republicans a bone on PP.

4/11, 1:20p: While pro-lifers lament Planned Parenthood wasn’t defunded in the final 2011 budget, Harry Reid and Barack Obama threw 7 Senate Democrats under the bus in the process.

Reid and Obama agreed to let the Senate have an up or down vote on defunding PP. We already know such a vote will fail, since 41 Democrats signed a letter on April 4 saying they’d oppose such a measure, making it bullet-proof.

But House Majority Leader John Boehner’s strategy is to force so-called Democrat moderates to go on the record,  potentially getting ammo for the 2012 elections.

It is what it is

Ok, Republicans and Democrats have agreed on a Continuing Resolution that will fund the government through the end of September. A government shut-down has been averted, whether one cares about that or not.

The dust has not settled but here are some apparent take-aways for pro-lifers….

Today! “Ask Them What They Mean By ‘Choice’” Blog Day

FINAL UPDATE, 1/24, 5:30a: I continued to receive requests to participate in our “Ask Them What They Mean By ‘Choice'” Blog Day from pro-lifers even as the day ended. I have updated the list to showcase the 111 pro-life bloggers who used January 21 to expose “choice” as the code word for killing preborn innocence children with only 2-1/2 days notice.

NARAL posted its list of 90 participants for its “Blog for Choice” Day that morning, fewer than ours with much more notice.

And, as previously discussed, we completely overwhelmed the pro-aborts on Twitter.

This was quite a positive learning experience for me, and I have used the example of what you accomplished by this endeavor many times the past couple days here in Washington when discussing online pro-life activism with friends and colleagues.

Perhaps liberals owned social media back in the day but no more, that’s for sure. I think this was definitely an indicator that pro-lifers have come into our own for online advocacy of the sanctity of preborn human life.

Two more RU-486 deaths

Steve Ertelt at LifeNews.com today spotted an innocuous letter to the editor in the New England Journal of Medicine dated September 30 from the Centers for Disease Control dropping huge news: Two more women have died from infections after taking the RU-486 abortion cocktail.

This brings the total number of known U.S. deaths to at least 10 in the 10 years since the FDA approved RU486 for abortions. I’ve added clarifying notes [in brackets] to the letter’s details of the deaths…

Stupak has 8 no’s; “hopeful” about executive order caves

UPDATE, 5:56p:

From DC House insider:

The Executive Order does not apply the principles of the Hyde amendment. Instead it reiterates the Senate language that allows subsidies for insurance policies that cover abortion by collecting a special abortion fee from every person who enrolls in a plan that covers abortion. This approach is contrary to the clear language of the Hyde amendment which states, no taxpayer funds “shall be expended for health benefits coverage that includes coverage of abortion.”

NRLC and LifeNews.com spotlight NYT abortion photo exposé

I was pleased to see both the National Right to Life Committee and Steve Ertelt at LifeNews.com cover the New York Times October 10 photo essay of aborted babies.
nyt headline.jpgI wondered if they would acknowledge the piece since both, the last I knew, opposed the use of graphic photos of aborted babies in pro-life advocacy [clarification: in public protests].
Hopefully as time goes on, maybe even thanks to the NYT piece, they will see their value. One less argument to have. It would be great if LifeNews.com would begin covering activist protests.
I’ve searched a couple times the last few days for pro-abort thoughts on the NYT piece, but haven’t found anything. Did anyone else?
Dave Andrusko of NRLC wrote quite positively about the photo exposé, even linking to the photos – twice – and describing them. Andrusko also had good insights on the comments to the article….
