Durbin’s week from PR hell
Click here to see the full-page ad American Life League took out in yesterday’s Chicago Sun-Times, in conjunction with the first day of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops’ spring meeting being held in Chicago.
The ad drew the ire of liberal Sun-Times columnist Carol Marin who – surprise! – also doesn’t think Durbin should apologize for his “American-soldiers-are-comparable-to-Nazis” remark earlier this week.

What bothered me the most about Marin’s column was the shock & horror that Durbin might be held accountable for the teachings of his church.
Look, lots of people disagree with the Catholic Church about lots of things. If you really can’t stand what your church is teaching about something, then find another church. If you just can’t make yourself leave the church, then work to change it from within. But calling yourself a Catholic while you use your position of public trust to undermine your church’s teachings is WRONG and hypocritical.
It’s obvious why Senator Derbin can’t give up his Catholic label–he thinks it gets votes. There are plenty of Catholics who agree with him–so he doesn’t want to lose that share of the Catholic market. But how many votes?
But does Durbin realize the day of “vote for Kennedy he will be the first Catholic in the white house…” is over? Catholics are mainstream and affiliation doesen’t get an automatic vote.
Just don’t vote for him!
God will judge whether Senator Durbin is on the right side of this abortion issue.
