Sidewalk counseling works

With today’s social and political climate, protecting abortion rights is more important than ever. One way to do this is through clinic defense. Basically this involves pro-choice advocates being outside of clinics to help, through their presence (this is a non-violent activity) or through escorting clients inside, keep the anti-choice forces around these clinics in check by standing up for abortion rights and by keeping an eye on the anti-choicers.
Some of the anti-choicers have been coming out to local women’s clinics every week for years on end. They misleadingly call their activities “sidewalk counseling,” but it’s really behavior meant to harass and intimidate women attempting to either exercise their constitutionally protected right to terminate a pregnancy or to avail themselves of other services the clinic may offer, such as birth control.
So it’s vital that those who believe in a woman’s right to control her body be as steadfast in defense of that right as the people who think that women’s bodies belong to the State and the Church. After all, a right doesn’t mean much if you’re too scared to exercise it. And the very important and worthwhile activity of clinic defense is where we can give that right meaning through helping to enable women to exercise it in peace.

I’ve been an Orlando sidewalk counselor for about 13 years. NOW leader Karen Weinburg has recently returned after being away from the Orlando Women’s Center killing place (owned by abortionist James Scott Pendergraft, who also owns the abortion mill EPOC, where Baby Rowan was left to die in the toilet at five months gestation) for almost a year. Karen’s
goal is to create an atmosphere of confusion & chaos, intimidating the abortion-bound women & men so that they won’t hear about their “choice” of alternatives to murdering their infants. Karen turns the sprinkler on the gentle Christians (I have a photo of this from 7/3/05) who come to offer women help through
their pregnancy. She swears at the Christian children who come to pray & she
consistently grabs our beautiful ministry materials (containing precious
information about where to get help, fetal development & adoption) out of
the hands of the women & men & tears it to pieces (I have a good photo of this as well).
The Lord will use the perseverance and holy ambition of His faithful & courageous sons & daughters as we labor to do good to our neighbors & to love those who are perishing as we are commanded to. We seek to always do

Let’s pray FOR the lost & misguided Karen Weinburg, who is dead in her trespasses & a slave to sin. And let pray AGAINST her wicked deeds as she calls evil good & good evil.
It takes genuine sacrifice of time & talent to be what Jesus called a “good neighbor” to those around us, including our pre-born neighbors. We can’t very well LOVE our neighbor if she is dead now can we?
When Jesus returns may He find us able to say “For their tomorrow, I gave my today” .

Oh, I forgot to mention … The white haired lady in the middle of the photo is Crazy Mary Wilson, NOW leader, who was finally arrested after physically battering one of our sidewalk counselors a few years ago. She had attacked me a month previously (smashing me in the face with her boombox) but I managed to get her wrestling against sidewalk counselor Maria ON VIDEO — so the cops finally charged her. But, in the end the state dropped the charges & wouldn’t tell us why. She hasn’t been back to the abortuary.
All of the above is true. I have been to the clinic multiple times in the past few months to offer prayer, a listening ear, alternatives- not threats or vulgar comments to abortion bound women. Karen and another woman returned to the clinic several weeks ago. They now have 2 radios, one to keep stationary and one to take with them when they move in order to block out any simple conversation we try to make with these ladies. They are so full of hate towards our presence there that they snatch the pamphlets from women’s hands and rip them up or tell them they can’t take them into the clinic. They photograph us and our cars in order to try to deter us from being there. So many women who have gone through with abortion discuss that the emptiness has never gone away. There are at least a dozen every Saturday who come for abortion, but ususally at least one or two who leave and decide to protect their life and the life of their unborn child. Some only need to hear they are capable of handling it and there are people who really care. I am there because I don’t want them to face anniversaries every year wondering what their child might have looked like or go through life knowing they can never reverse their “decision”. It would be awesome to have anyone who is able or feels called to this to be in prayer at home or come out Saturday mornings.
