New WND column, “All’s not quite well that ends well”
In retrospect, President Bush’s 1999 statement to the Associated Press explains his inattention to Roe v. Wade when picking Supreme nominees: “America is not ready to overturn Roe v. Wade because America’s hearts are not right. And so, in the meantime, instead of arguing over Roe v. Wade, what we ought to do is promote policies that reduce abortions.”
Certainly, as it pertains to “promot[ing] policies that reduce abortion,” as he said, President Bush has come through.
But one cannot be a half-hearted pro-lifer.
It is this lesson I hope most of all President Bush learned from the Harriet Miers debacle.

Soon after George W. Bush got elected to his first term, he issued a statement that said it was not going to be a priority to reverse the policies of the previous administration.
In other words, he extended his official respect to everything the Clinton administration did by saying he wasn’t seeking to change things.
Good article, Jill, but I do think you’re a bit hard on George. Bless ya.
