Where am I?
My apologies for not posting very often this past week. We were preparing for my daughter Daena’s college graduation party, which happened yesterday. We decided to do six months worth of work around the house and yard in one week while simultaneously entertaining my Dad, in from NM for the party.
My Dad is flying home tomorrow evening, and whatever normal life is will resume Wednesday.
I know many college students post here and may be interested in my daughter’s college interests. Daena graduated with a double major in political science and French. She wants to work in DC, and as my Dad flies west tomorrow, she will be flying east for job interviews.
Thanks to Bethany and Valerie for helping fill the gap the past several days with excellent posts.

That’s pretty awesome, congrats to your daughter. Just out of curiosity, what does she focus on in her political science studies? Does she study more political philosophy or the actual science of political science (voting practices etc…)?
Congratulations! and you have a nice looking daughter… lil’ spark in her eye… This does not mean in anyway however that you should feel obliged to defend her honor from me or what not.
Daena, good luck in all you do. You are a very beautiful girl! Wish you well!!!
Cameron,
That is like the fifth truly nice post you have made. Perhaps there is more than fluoride and fertility agents in your water these days. I like this you. A lot.
Jill,
Congrats! But when do they move out????????????
mk
@MK: Only commies put fluoride in their water, I refuse to have any part of that, I need to keep my bodily fluids pure. :-p
Rae,
Is there fluoride in olives?
mk
Valerie,
I feel a case of the sillies coming on…
where are you?
Rae,
You’re a smart lady. Stay away from the fluoride. No one believes me when I tell them that. I buy fluoride free toothpaste and buy only filtered water from the store. I sure wish my kids would listen to me about this.
Tell her congrats!
As for the flouride, I’m skeptical as well.
There are studies that show that fluoride make you compliant and it is used to keep the masses in check…
Thanks for noticing MK…
Ironically.. .I’m feel’n pretty ornery though
Cameron,
Maybe you should have another glass of the “funny” water?
Seriously though, sometimes you seem so amazing…
I wish we could see more of that.
What are you feeling ornery about?
@MK: I am not sure, depends if the commies got to them first…
@Lauren: Actually, I do drink fluoridated water and use fluoridated tooth paste and get fluoride treatments when I go to the dentist…I have been fortunate in that I have never had a cavity even though I never floss. I was kidding about the whole “fluoridated water is evil”…I was quoting an old Stanley Kubrick movie called, “Dr. Strangelove”.
I’ve never had a cavity either, but I think that has more to do with the plastic like sealants I got as a kid than fluoride.
I don’t like the idea of putting chemicals in water.
I pulled an all nighter. Lauren’s news bummed me out. My prof’s useless workstudy didn’t show again, so I had his @#$% piled on tooo (and he happened to have left things in a @#$%tastic state for me). Now I just want to go home and go to sleeeeeeeeep. But I can’t just yet because some people don’t know how to use thermometers.
@Lauren: I had sealants as well, useful buggers aren’t they?
Cam,
I was with you all the way up to the thermometers…
what’s that all about?
It’s funny cuz I still picture you as this 14 year old pimply faced kid making crude jokes, and that image is hard to reconcile with the intellectual, well spoken man that you really are…
I have a cavity :(. I need to go to the dentist as soon as I can get insurance (TennCare covers dental work until I’m 21).
Blah. Until then, I guess I should lay off the sugar.
Yeah, the thermomaters made me a bit confused as well.
Yay, congrats on the graduation!
WOW! can’t believe what I missed in the last 30 min.! :) You all are drinking funny water!
“….and that image is hard to reconcile with the intellectual, well spoken man that you really are…”
You’re making it rather difficult to insult you dammit ;-P
The useless work study put a shipment of clone anemones we received from other researchers in fifty gallon tanks but left the lil’ heaters set for ten gallon tanks. The tropical critters were on their death bed this morning, stewing in a very un-tropic like 20C. you have to kind of futz with the heaters till you get a stable temp, and takes awhile to get a stable temp in a such large tanks with such a lil heater. So I’m sitting here making sure it’s not going to get too hot or not warm enough. I don’t even understand why he put them in a fifty. Flippen waste of salt and space. They could’ve been put in a gallon size container. It looks really goofy too, and I just know he’s going to have back problem or something when it comes time to clean the overkill tanks. AAAAARARRGH.
Cameron,
Perhaps if you added some “funny” water to the tank?
Or maybe Dr. Defense could invite the useless work study guy to lunch?
Do clone anemones have tails?
Do they brush with fluoride?
Can you go for a swim? How big is a 50 gallon tank anyway?
Want an olive?
I want a pillow and a blanky. I think it’s safe to leave em now. Later.
Okay,
get some sleeeeep. You can go back to insulting me in the morning…
Rae, 5:45p: Her foci were international relations and American politics. She’s also interested in public policy, which likely won’t surprise you.
Camcorder, you are nicest when sleep deprived, I now see. As for my daughter, thanks for the compliment. No worries on my having to defend her against you. She’s 21. At any rate, after five minutes with you it would likely get ugly.
Jill,
Congratulations to your daughter. She’s very pretty too.
Jill,
You must be proud! My parents would have killed for me to have graduated college @ 21. I am supposed to next May, but I am thinking about doing a double major now :-)! (Just havent run that idea by them yet. It would make sense to have a BA in Psychology and Criminal Justice..
I like it when we don’t try to attack each other like rapid sharks : ) As for me I get mean when I’m sleep deprived, really cruel when drunk, so I don’t drink. I baked some cookies though, chocolate chip! I wish I could send them to you, wait, I have an idea (puts cookies in cd drive). Are they there yet?
Oh alcohol makes me nicer (unles its tequila, that just makes me cry), and I am just a delusional freak when speep deprived, haha. I would like a cookie though to go with my wine and homemade chicken cordon bleu I am cooking :-)
I’m watching hells kitchen on fox. I would be like, “it’s a cheese sandwich. I made it on french bread to be fancy.”
Well I actually made some really good vegetable soup for my family. I ate some of it with nachos and it was really good. I’m a vegetarian. I like to make alot of stuff with cheese though, I make my own nachos.
Holding and playing with my baby, a short haired teddy hamster, makes me so happy and calm and relaxed.
I want an “amnimal” soooo bad. I want a tea-cup Yorkie more than anything. The BF told me today if I bought him a $40,000 boat he’d buy me the pooch, but alas, I dont think that’s a good trade off.
@Jill: That’s cool-beans. I am hoping to eventually take an international relations course (I haven’t yet as I’ve been focusing on political philosophy) because I think it could be quite helpful. :)
Well I wish the best of luck to her and her future career. ^_^
“The tropical critters were on their death bed this morning, stewing in a very un-tropic like 20C. you have to kind of futz with the heaters till you get a stable temp, and takes awhile to get a stable temp in a such large tanks with such a lil heater. Cam, I surprized you haven’t considered aborting the critters?
I think we’d all be a lot happier if we had adopted animals (aka pets). I’m pro-small-fluffy-spazzy things
God, my spelling is awful…
@Jess: Then you support my hyperactive Pomeranian? He’s running for president…president of teh CUTE!
http://puppywar.com/stats.php?id=27863
This is my puppy Dakota…of course he’s nearly 2 and not quite as fuzzy (he has a fur-cut right now)…but the cute remains!
Jill,
Congrats to your daughter!
I see she got one of those leather holder thingies, I didn’t get one and other colleges at my university did. They are so much nicer than the rolled up piece of paper :-(
Congrats, Jill!!
I loooove Dr. Strangelove!
Our precious bodily fluids!
Yep, Stanley Kubrick was a genius.
Stanley Kubrick “The Shining” – Jack Nickelson was great in this one….
You know Jasper, Cam has been quite respectfuly and nice today, why do you have be so darn mean to him, when he’s done nothing wrong today? Even MK, & Jill noticed.
What did I do now Midnite?
Jill,
This is kind of interesting, a Catholic bishop calling Rudy Giuliani views on abortion hypocritical, which I agree with. But he never mentions Chris Dodd, Joe Biden or Bill Richardson who are all pro-choice Catholics as well?? I guess they get a pass because their democrats. Also, no mention of abortion in the democrat debate last on CNN. No surprise there…
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070604/ap_on_el_pr/on_the2008_trail_60;_ylt=Aia2v38BHjRbBhSdBMD6NP2B_YEA
I think it might be because, by the simple act of being a part of the Democratic party, they have already damned themselves to hell.
Could also be because they are not also trying to pass themselves off as pro life (as Guiliani is trying to do)
“Could also be because they are not also trying to pass themselves off as pro life (as Guiliani is trying to do)”
Guiliani still says he’s pro-choice.
what difference does it make though JK? Pro-choice is Pro-choice. This bishop is probably one of those fake Catholics who is a democrat trying to make guiliani look bad.
@Jasper: You’re really paranoid about the democrats and liberals in general aren’t you? Why do you feel so persecuted, your party has been in charge for over 20 years!
So Democrat Catholics are fake Catholics?
Because you couldn’t POSSIBLY believe in God and not vote for George Bush…….
Liberal judges in Michigan and the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal in Cincinnati ( say a baby partly out of the womb has no right to life)
The appeals panel affirmed a Detroit district judge’s opinion that the 2004 Legal Birth Definition Act in Michigan places an “undue burden” on a woman’s right to have an abortion.
Abortion rights groups have said the law
And I suppose he made it all the way to becoming a bishop by just “going through the motions”, pretending to be a good Catholic so that one day he could accomplish his ultimate life goal of making the former mayor of New York look foolish.
“@Jasper: You’re really paranoid about the democrats and liberals in general aren’t you? Why do you feel so persecuted, your party has been in charge for over 20 years!”
Rae, try living in Massachusetts and you’ll know what I mean.
LOL @ JK.
Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate…
*rolls eyes*
Wow…I wish my middle name was “you stink”….you’d think she’d change it though…..it would look kind of unprofessional on a business card.
@Jasper: Then move if you don’t like it, there’s plenty of room for you in South Dakota. And quite frankly, I’m sure I’d enjoy living in Massachusetts…but it’s too expensive to live there.
“And I suppose he made it all the way to becoming a bishop by just “going through the motions”, pretending to be a good Catholic”
No, but I’ll bet you any money that he gets bullied by the mafia style Democrats in Rhode Island.
“No, but I’ll bet you any money that he gets bullied by the mafia style Democrats in Rhode Island.”
Some how I doubt this, as he’s a man of God and only takes orders from either the man in Rome or the Man upstairs…
“@Jasper: Then move if you don’t like it, there’s plenty of room for you in South Dakota. And quite frankly, I’m sure I’d enjoy living in Massachusetts…but it’s too expensive to live there.”
Ok, let me know when you want to trade houses, I’ll pack my bags…( i don’t know if my wife will want to move though, but I would).
Sounds like a bet I’m willing to take, how much are we talking?
“Some how I doubt this, as he’s a man of God and only takes orders from either the man in Rome”
No, that the problem Rae, some of these bishops don’t always follow what Rome says. As the Pope recently said that pro-choice politicians shouldn’t receive communion but we only see a few bishops in the US calling for this. My Cardinal in Boston, Sean O’malley has a blog and I keep on asking him when is he going to speak out, but he never responds…
“Sounds like a bet I’m willing to take, how much are we talking?”
we’ll, there no way to prove it JK…
Because discrimination=not what Jesus would do
Well, you said you’d bet any amount of money, you can’t go back on it citing “lack of evidence”
Oh, and maybe you should consider the possibility that your Cardinal is being silent because he is also being bullied by the Rhode Island Democrat Mafia.
@Jasper: If you want to move to Minnesota and live in my parent’s basement (where I am currently living), that’s fine by me. :) Just so you know, I have two younger brothers and they are *very* annoying. :-p
As for not listening to Rome…well that’s their prerogative I guess, as the Pope isn’t God, and I think that bishops should be taking orders from the Big Guy as opposed to Pope Benedict (who, I’m sorry to say, look suspiciously like Emperor Palpatine from “Star Wars”)… JPII forever!
Oh here we go, what discrimination JK?
I forgot, JK, do you beleive in Jesus?
Rae,
He does highly resemble Emperor Palpatine….
Only a Sith deals in absolutes…hmmm
“As for not listening to Rome…well that’s their prerogative I guess, as the Pope isn’t God, and I think that bishops should be taking orders from the Big Guy as opposed to Pope Benedict”
Rae, no that’s not the way to go, otherwise you’ll have everybody making up their own rules, etc.
Discrimination of denying people sacraments based on their political views.
Yes I believe in Jesus, do you believe in Jesus?
“Yes I believe in Jesus, do you believe in Jesus?”
yes.
“Discrimination of denying people sacraments based on their political views.”
We’ll, it says right in the catechism of the Catholic church that leaders, etc shouldn’t receive communion if their helping to facilitate a grave evil (abortion).
“Rae, no that’s not the way to go, otherwise you’ll have everybody making up their own rules, etc.”
And the Pope isn’t making up his own rules for everybody else to follow?
Because all indication is that you despise liberals, do you make an exception when it comes to Jesus? Do you decide to look over his liberalism?
So George Bush must be glad he’s not Catholic, considering all the grave evil that he has facilitated in his lifetime (warmongering, lying as a means to warmongering, killing of thousands of prison inmates- some even innocent of the crimes they were charged with, destroying his body with alcohol and harmful drugs)
Ohhhhh Jasper is from Massachusetts.
heh. No wonder he’s so bitter.
Suprised he didnt melt when Patrick was elected – by the biggest landslide victory in state history. =)
Jill,
Congrats to your daughter! I’m sure she will have many opportunities for an exciting career.
Sorry,
I just can’t let this one go. I have to say it.
Wow Cameron does have Compassion.
FOR ANEMONES!
He is willing to save the little tropical critters from the brink of death, but has no compassion for the unborn.
Interesting…………..
Jill, congratulations to your daughter. :)
Rae and Jess,
I’ve got Val’s disease…I’m soooo confused.

Is this a picture of Rae’s puppy or Jess’s hamster?
Or could it be a picture of….

whatever it is, it’s adorable!
Good morning, Americans! It’s late afternoon here and I have been waiting for all of you folks to wake up!
Everyone seems rather cheerful in this discussion, so I’ll only add to the joy.
Life is beautiful–la vie est belle. I have just had an AMAZING four-day weekend. I love everyone and everything. My lunch is delicious. There is no fluoride in French water. In 35 days I’ll be home (unless some emergency comes up where I’ll have to be home sooner–God forbid). My dad is getting remarried in October to a woman I adore. I am university-hunting (are there any Canadians around who can point me in the direction of a relatively inexpensive) university with a good language program, please?
Love, love, love.

Ahh! repeat posts! Apologies, folks.
Leah,
So does this mean that now would be a good time to come over to our side?
Leah is pro-life now? wow, thats great!
Yes, I agree. Leah, think about every unborn child that deserves to feel that too. C’mon over!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/03/AR2007060301218.html?hpid=topnews
Carhart is even “more wicked than Roe” because it is “not a ban, but a partial-birth abortion manual” that affirms the legality of late-term abortions “as long as you follow its guidelines,” the ads said. “Yet, for many years you have misled the Body of Christ about the ban, and now about the ruling itself.”
“Over the past seven years, the partial-birth abortion ban as a fundraising technique has brought in over a quarter of a billion dollars” for major antiabortion groups, “but the ban has no authority to prevent a single abortion, and pro-life donors were never told that,” he said. “That’s why we call it the pro-life industry.”
In Rohrbough’s view, partisan politics is also involved.
“What happened in the abortion world is that groups like National Right to Life, they’re really a wing of the Republican Party, and they’re not geared to push for personhood for an unborn child — they’re geared to getting Republicans elected,” he said. “So we’re seeing these ridiculous laws like the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban put forward, and then we’re deceived about what they really do.”
Oh God, speaking of Carhart. Have any of you ever taken a look at that silly homely looking bastard? I would never allow to work on my reproductive system. He can’t even get his wig on straight!!
Ohh, you guys are so silly–trying to recuit me. Sorry, it’s not happenin’!
It’s funny, because there’s so much in my life that could go wrong at any moment … I just know that everything will turn out okay. Anyone ever had that feeling? Wonderful … wonderful …
I am now going to put some Beatles music on my iPod. I’ll check back with you kids later. Ahhhhh …
Oh, Jasper–this was from a different post, but, you said that France could keep Johnny Depp.
Uhh … you can’t NOT like him! Have you SEEN the man? He is beautiful. I can accept your views on abortion (even if you can’t accept mine), but this … you are not allowed to not like Johnny Depp. I forbid you.
Yes, yes. I’m in one of those kinds of moods …
Tchao!!
Leah, sorry. I don’t like him either. I don’t find him gorgeous at all. Give me Jeff Goldblum!!! Or Rob Lowe. Keep JD.
Oh, Heather … I am so disappointed in you …
Luckily, I am in the mood to love you anyway. How are the children? Adorable? … I love kids ….
“He is willing to save the little tropical critters from the brink of death, but has no compassion for the unborn.”
I’m saving them from the brink of death so that I can torture them in starvation experiments, then grind them up and run bioassays. However, this is all done because I’m interested in thwarting the unprecedented extinction of a third of all marine animals.
Good Leah. Thanks for asking. It’s just a matter of preference for me. Of all the men that find Pam Anderson beautiful, I have found more than a few that say they just “don’t see it.”
“However, this is all done because I’m interested in thwarting the unprecedented extinction of a third of all marine animals.”
why the extinction, whats happening….global warming hysteria? fishing nets? whos paying for this study?
Cameron, are you thinking about becoming an abortionist?
Hmm … I suppose I can see what you’re saying. I personally do not find Pamela Anderson attractive at ALL. I don’t think she has a nice body, I don’t think she has a pretty face. I basically think she isn’t worth attention. What does she even do anymore?
Well, more Johnny for me!
Back to my research. I really must stop getting sidetracked.
One more off topic. Pam ruined her body with those over sized implants. I prefer a natural looking woman. Pam is only 5’4″ and double D’s just don’t look good on her. OK…. that’s all.
Heather–I could not agree more.
You know who I find really pretty? Rachel McAdams (when she’s a brunette).
Ok. I’ll let everyone get back to their noble work. I’m feeling distracted and happy and all that crap. :)
Leah,
It’s funny, because there’s so much in my life that could go wrong at any moment … I just know that everything will turn out okay. Anyone ever had that feeling? Wonderful … wonderful …
You’ve just described every christian on this site.
Except we don’t just feel that way today. We feel that way every day!
Wonderful…wonderful…
All the old actresses had that class. Too bad we can’t bring those days back. Rita Hayworth, Marylin Monroe, Betty Davis, Judy Garland. Now a days it just seems like most anyone can get an acting job. The standards have dropped. And Baywatch….. *yawn* no plot at all. It was downright stupid. Most movies suck as well. I won’t even go to the theatre anymore. OK, now I really must go. Dr. appt.
MK: While I don’t doubt you, I am positive that this feeling is not limited to the Christians of this site. I get that what I said has a basis in Christian philosophy, it is also a major part of many other religions.
That being said, I’ve missed you! You disappeared for a while, it seems, then reappeared but I was never participating in discussions when you were. I had a religious question to ask you at one point too, because I know you to be a very knowledgeable person in that area … but I’ve since had the question answered, so no worries.
I keep abandoning my research. I really have no discipline today!
Life is goooood.
Heather: I ADORE Judy Garland!!
Leah,
It was sweet of you to notice my absence. I had knee surgery and was out of comission for two weeks, but I’m back.
What you said made me curious tho. As long as Jill is taking polls, I’d like to take one….
How many people on this site really do wake up EVERY MORNING and feel that even tho there’s so much in your life that could go wrong at any moment … You just know that everything will turn out okay? And I mean EVERY morning, not just some mornings? (Oh okay, every once in a great while you can have a bad day, but I mean generally)
I know I do. i know that I could have a horrible car wreck, or my fiance could have a horrible car wreck, I could get fired, I could get kidnapped walking out of the mall at closing, my computer could die (again), I could eat something that contains foods that I’m deathly allergic to by accident…the list goes on.
But I figure that so much is just not in my control that it’s pointless to worry about it, that if everything doesn’t turn out okay in the end, it isn’t the end yet. Everything happens for a reason, even if I don’t know the reason. I just don’t let things that are out of my hands get me down, because everything will turn out well.
I used to worry a lot. Now, I could care less. I feel that I am not in control. God is. If I don’t get the job, he has a reason for that. I was in a car accident that probably should have killed me. Why am I still alive? I have no idea. Everyone agrees that there had to be divine intervention that day. Even my friends who are non believers. I walked away unscathed!! A miracle indeed.
Jill-
Congrats to your daughter! And thanks for posting what she graduated with. As I was reading I myself was wondering, I wonder what she got a degree in.
MK-I moved out when I went to college, came home to visit and stuff.. but other than that I was gone. Now I am going to be moving to a whole new state and it makes my mom and dad sad. :(
Oh and Jill-
What kind of jobs is your daughter trying to get?
Heather4Life:
“Marylin Monroe”
Class?
I think she was a bimbo. Could be wrong.
Speaking as a married man of 25 years, I still whimper when I see Audrey Hepburn in film or photos.
She was drop dead gorgeous all the way through her later years. And definitely class.
Aaack! Sorry folks.
Well, ok Then bump Marylin and add Audrey. My point was that most actresses today don’t seem to have much talent.
Jasper, 6/4, 7:58p: Thanks!
Midnite, 6/4, 8:02: Yes, I am. Thanks!
JK, 6/4, 10:46p, said: “I see she got one of those leather holder thingies, I didn’t get one and other colleges at my university did. They are so much nicer than the rolled up piece of paper :-(”
If it makes you feel better, her leather holder thingy was empty! They mail diplomas only after they’re sure you’ve satisfied all requirements and, of course, paid all your bills.
Sandy, 6/5, 8:26a: Thanks!
Bethany, 6/5, 8:57a: Thanks!
JM, 6/5, 4:49p, asked: “What kind of jobs is your daughter trying to get?”
She had a busy day yesterday. Caught a 6:20a flight to DC, had four interviews (Commerce Dept., Pentagonx2, and a senator), and caught a 7:30p flight home. She’s not stuck on getting one particular job. She does know what she doesn’t like, though, when she sees it. She likes campaigns. She likes public policy. She likes international politics. She likes being where the action is.
I get mine in the mail in August. Maybe it will come with a leather holder thingie. :-)
Actually, Marilyn Monroe was quite intelligent. She was often type cast as a dumb blonde, but she was really quite smart. She was, however, a paranoid schizophrenic with attachment disorders and probable bipolar. :) Her mom was institutionalized when she was fourteen, and Marilyn was sent to foster care, where she was sexually abused to the point of rape: she then married at eighteen.
She had a really screwed up life, to be honest, and I pity her. I did a series of reports on her, it was quite interesting.
