Protest against atrocities in China
One last photo from DC last week. On July 20 there was a large protest along Constitution Ave. against the Chinese Communist government’s atrocities against its people: torture, and harvesting of organs from living prisoners. (Strangely, the one-child policy was not protested.)
That night, protesters held a candlelight vigil at the Washington Monument. You can see its base in the background of this photo. All those little lights you see were being held by Chinese people who sat cross-legged and meditating/praying for over an hour. It was quite spectacular. See two close-ups on page 2.

Jill,
I traveled to Taiwan/Hong Kong several times, the other strange thing is that Chinese people count their age from the moment of conception, not birth.
…and yet have this one child policy (Im sure abortion rate is high as well).
You would think that the abortion rate in China would be alot higher than the US. But even with their one-child policy, they abort 27% of the time while we abort 25%. So, we’re right up there with them.
Can someone please explain a little more about this 1 child policy in China? I have heard about it, but I’m still not completely clear on it. If a woman is only allowed to have 1 child, then wouldn’t a MANDATORY tubal ligation be in order after the birth of that 1 child?
It’s more like a one girl policy.
Rosie,
Its more like a no girl policy. Male children are preferred and if only one child is permitted, guess what happens to the girls? They are disposed of.
We heard outrage expressed by NARAL and NOW when Romanian women were subjected to forced childbirth. Apparently, forced abortion and sterilization aren’t viewed as equally despicable
by the supporters of “choice”.
Mary, just what on earth are NOW and Naral good for? They darn sure don’t care about unborn children. Do they really care about women? I think I already have my answer. If they did, these complaints about abortionists would be taken seriously.
Heather, for two (three?) decades the Communist Chinese government has forced a policy on its people of one child per married couple. There are circumstances the government allows more children, like to farmers – and government officials, as we now read. Otherwise there are stiff penalties. Sometimes this policy results in forced abortions and sterilization. Hope you read my quote of day yesterday.
The Chinese government is antichoice. Forcing a woman to end a pregnancy she wants to continue is every bit as antichoice as forcing her to continue a pregnancy against her will. Chinas ‘human rights policies’ are virtually non existant.
