Ignoring us and our “fetusmobiles”
Blogger JJ at Unrepentent Old Hippie was “taken aback” yesterday when a spokesperson for the National Abortion Federation phoned in to a Calgary talk show featuring a guest from the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform. Under discussion was CCBR’s launch of a truck truth tour, or “Rolling Fetus Roadshow,” as JJ called it, on August 8.
I myself was taken aback when reading JJ was 52, because her vocabulary and logic were that of an adolescent.
JJ didn’t think pro-aborts should engage us in debate, because first (italics hers), “There is no debate – there’s only ‘f*** off and mind your own business’.”
JJ further thought pro-lifers should be ignored because we are driven solely by religious zealousness. She rejected our argument that life begins at conception as “a more ideological than scientific concept.”
On that note, JJ wondered (italics hers), “where the f*** [do] they get those pictures anyway,” implying graphic photos of aborted babies are fake.
In other words, JJ didn’t want to see abortion, hear about abortion, or speak about abortion.
And she accused us of trudging in the “dark ages”?

UPDATE, 1:30p: “Abortion billboard trucks cause media uproar, provoke pro-abortion advocate to publicly debate issue”

Seeing is believing!
This reminds me of the comments many reviews of the movie “Knocked Up” contained. I read several that think the movie was wholly unrealistic because (to paraphrase) “only religious fanatic women don’t have an abortion in her situation.” They’ve completely missed the shift in the population that is nonreligious, and yet adamantly pro-life.
Here’s to the continuation of their heads in the sand.
I read the post and her comments. They’re revolting. It’s all ME ME ME ME ME ME ME! Do they have ANY room at all for love in those tight, cold hearts?
It’s an effort even to pray for them, because they’re not just lost, they WANT to be lost. You get the feeling that they’d spit in the eye of God and tell Him in extremely colorful language to mind His own business.
Those are SERIOUSLY hard hearts!
It’s all ME ME ME ME ME ME ME! Do they have ANY room at all for love in those tight, cold hearts?
Where do you come off making such a spurious accusation and bearing such false witness?
Repent, sinner.
Anon:
From UOH: “my right to reproductive choice” – “it’s my right” – “My Rights”
From Prole: “My body. Leave me alone and mind your own f’ing business.” – “clumps of cells that may or may not be housed in MY uterus” – “I will never let some religious nutcase, or anyone but ME decide for me” — “Stay out of my crotch, you freaks.” – “That fetus doesn’t have any rights in my body” – “my bodily autonomy”
From JJ: “It’s my right and that’s that.”
I say again, for ROH and her cronies, it’s ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME MEME ME ME ME ME ME.
There’s no room in their hearts for anybody but themselves.
There’s no room in their hearts for anybody but themselves.
That’s not true, Christina. There may be many people they love and care about. With a pregnancy, there is nobody there that values anything, that knows anything, that wants anything, certainly to a point in gestation. You’re feeling sorry for embryos and fetuses but they don’t care.
This argument is you wanting your desire to determine things, rather than the desire of the pregnant woman. With all the spin and overly-dramatic stuff we see posted, this really comes down to YOU wanting YOUR WAY.
I know you believe what you believe, but why should that be forced on somebody else?

Doug, this really doesn’t matter. I doubt newborns would “care” if mothers all over were drugging them and killing them without their ability to know this. Does that make it acceptable? Just the fact that they are unaware? Of course not!
Doug, How would you feel about someone removing eggs from a birds nest and stepping on the eggs? I think that’s cruel! It’s the same concept.
Typical
We’ve got a good mix of pro-lifers and “pro-choicers” on this site who engage in healthy debate that is unedited 99+% of the time. I admire those from the other side who dialogue here, even if we are 180 degrees…
Heather, I agree that it’s the same concept, with the exception of if the parent birds want the eggs to remain. The eggs don’t suffer, no. But perhaps the birds do? If it’s the same way, it’d be like forcing a woman with a wanted pregnancy to have an abortion, and in no way is Pro-Choice for that.

It does matter. Newborns can suffer. Newborns can feel pain. Newborns have emotions. Newborns are not inside the body of a person. Newborns have had right-to-life attributed to them. All of this matters to many people. Sure, newborns can be asleep or drugged, but many people still feel differently about them.
