Actress Ellen Burstyn’s lowest moment
Actress Ellen Burstyn was in town attending the Toronto Film Festival the week September 6-14 in part to attend a screening of the classic movie in which she starred, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.
While being interviewed on CFRB radio, the 74-year-old actress was asked what was the lowest moment of her life.
And for the first time, she publicly disclosed it:
Burstyn: You know, I guess, I hate to talk about this on the air, but having an abortion. You know that was really an extremely painful experience.
Interviewer: Did you feel you didn’t have a choice?
Burstyn: At the time I was just young and dumb, I didn’t really want to have a baby then. It was the wrong thing to do and I really didn’t understand that till later. That was very very painful, that was probably the worst. I try not to allow regret to settle over me like a shroud, because I think its an unhealthy way to live.

I note that she’s not calling for a ban an abortion. She just regrets the way she exercised her choice.
Just because Burstyn did not call for a ban on legalized child-slaughter does not mean she does not favor one, or that one would is not appropriate.
You see, Hal, you do not create a civilized, safe, healthy, just, or optimally free society (the kind all reasonable people of conscience desire, both for themselves and for others) by permitting the strong to prey upon the weak with impunity.

Abortionists are much stronger than preborn babies, and they prey upon them with impunity. They also use their medical credentials to exploit, bereave, and endanger women rather than preserving their health. (Pregnancy is not a disease, and abortion is not health care.)
Ms. Burstyn is not alone in regretting her part in the murder of her child, nor is she amiss in confessing it. Over 93% of surviving post-abortive women regret their abortions; the others are either in denial, or are dangerously emotionally detached from reality.
Whether or not Burstyn favors a ban on legalized induced abortion, her child certainly would favor one, given a choice, as would all the 50 million other children unjustly executed by induced abortion in America

I’m not angry. Just a bit frustrated with circular reasoning. Some people believe abortion is murder, some people don’t. Some people believe abortion is “kiling a baby”, some people don’t. I know you don’t think it’s “belief” but “fact.” Changing the words to “I KNOW that Abortion is not murder” instead of “I don’t BELIEVE abortion is murder” doesn’t help much. There is no way to ever end this debate, or even get much progress. We have never regretted for a moment the choice to terminate two pregnancies. The other women I have talked to about this seem very happy with their decisions to terminate pregnancies in their past as well. Not a very scientific standard, I realize, but 4,000 women a day can’t be wrong….

Murder is the deliberate, premeditated taking of an innocent human life. So is abortion. The word fetus is Latin for little one, aka baby. And, tragically, it is not illegal (yet) to kill babies who are yet unborn; but we will all be much better off when/if that changes.
Denial is not the same as refutation; all you proaborts have managed to come up with is denial, and no refutation. So you’re in, or in with, the 7% who don’t get it; that hardly qualifies you to speak to or for the 93% who do.
Why don’t you so-called “champions of women” focus on lowering the number that really needs to be reduced, the number of women that die from abortions? It would be drastically reduced, by at least 700%, if abortion were recriminalized. This would be another step forward for female humans, since most of the couples who abort for sex selection spare little boys and kill little girls…you know, those little people who grow into women, given the chance?
But no; you will continue, like two year olds who cover up their own eyes and then declare proudly that no one can see them, to lob unfounded, ad hominem hogwash at anyone who dares to challenge or refute that mess of bloody aborthodoxy pottage for which you’ve traded any faculties of reason, fairness, honesty, compassion, integrity and most everything else that distinguishes humanity from brute beasts.
Most prolifers don’t lie very well because we don’t care anything about becoming proficient at deceiving people, as do prodeathers. And don’t even bother trying to deny that; a much more experienced proabort has since repented, and publicly confessed the many lies he fabricated on behalf of the baby-killers.

“4,000 women a day can’t be wrong”? Yes, they can be; they can be dead wrong. Truth is truth even if no one believes it, and a lie is a lie even if everyone believes it.
I don’t know how long ago you had your own children killed, Hal, but surely even you must realize that had they lived, it is not two little “blobs of tissue” that you would have lying around, but two children, to read to, to play with, to teach, to protect, to tuck into bed at night, or to teach how to ride bikes, drive a car, make music…They were no more “products of conception” than you are, and no less human. Just younger, and smaller, and more defenseless, just like you were at their age.
There is a better way, Hal. There are generally two ways people process guilt, especially bloodguilt. (Your children did bleed, you know, when they were killed, just like you would if you were killed in that brutal manner). The best one, that leads to new life, is the way of confession, repentance and seeking God’s forgiveness. The other one, the path you are on now, leads only to deeper self-deception and more death; and that is the way of denial, self-justification, rationalization and transferring/projecting onto others your own guilt.
You’re headed in the wrong direction; but if you’re still breathing, God will still allow you to make a U-turn. If you refuse the offer, you have no one to blame but yourself for the consequences.

There are healthy ways to deal with regret and unhealthy ways. I can’t help but to wonder whether she went to Confession about it. When it comes to deeply rooted regret the only remedies I have ever heard of are; Confession, pharmaceuticals and generous amounts of alcohol. Two of which have terrible side effects.

Hal, that doesn’t prove that they’re not human beings any more than the fact that many newborns don’t make it past infancy due to SIDS, genetic disorders, etc doesn’t make them less worthy of the status of “human being”.
Just because many of them die doesn’t make it any more justifiable to kill them, and doesn’t make them any less human.
Is it only a sad thing for a newborn to die, if it was a wanted newborn? When the newborn is unwanted, is his death less or more tragic?

The basic dynamics of post-abortion regret (we can call this post-abortion regret 101) work like this: Women are hardwired with strong natural instincts to nurture and bear children, and to protect them at all costs. Those natural instincts, unless they are stymied, perverted, or suppressed, are what make induced abortion repellant to most women. What happens to an abortion-minded woman is that some fear — of losing the affection of her mate, the approval and support of her parents, of not being ready to mother the child, of messing up her schooling or career, losing her girlish figure, etc., ad infinitum– suppresses her maternal instincts long enough to get her through the killing of that child. The abortion profiteers, of course, are highly skilled at zeroing in on, feeding, and exploiting her fears to the hilt for their own profit. Hence, may women report that they feel an immediate sense of relief after the abortion. However, since the “problem” is gone, the fear is gone, and she will begin, in due course, sometimes sooner, sometimes later,to recover her natural, instinctive compassion/affection for the little life lately begun in her; but since the baby is gone, when those aroused, developing maternal instincts do rebound (famished nature will avenge itself), they can only reassert themselves in grief, rage, and guilt. Simply put, it’s not nice to foul mother nature.
The scriptures shed additional interesting light on this in John 16:21: “A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.” If the climax of childbirth never occurs, then her soul gets stuck in the travail mode. This is probably why many women immediately try to get pregnant with a “replacement baby” following an abortion. The unrequited love, and the need to have her womanly, maternal instincts affirmed after they have been violently assaulted are overwhelming; this is probably why many women become sexually promiscuous as well following induced abortions. Others go the other way, and become sexually frigid, perverted, or just shut down.
I see that jtmcnutt has already referred everyone to Reardon’s website, afterabortion.org, where you can find much more information about the negative physical, emotional, mental, social and other effects of induced abortion on women, men, and ex utero children. Oh, and don’t be put off by jt’s blunt, curmudgeonly manner; I know him well, and I know he means well. The terms “red-fanged” and “hatemongering” are likely terms you would have no problem applying to anyone seeking to have you subjected to the torturous death of induced abortion; I’m sure jt only meant to help you see yourselves as your victims and their advocates see you, and it really would be a terrible pity to let your own reflection, however unflattering it may be, blind any of you to the abundance of insight and research available at afterabortion.com.

We have already established, in previous posts, that David C. Reardon is a fraud and a clown.
Nothing he writes should be taken seriously.

Reardon is a great asset for the Pro-Choice side. He’s a known fake for his “Ph.D.”
Reardon’s supposed college “is not accredited by any accreditation agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (which is the agency that recognizes the accepted accreditation agencies in the US). As such, its degrees may not be acceptable to employers or other institutions. In some jurisdictions (such as Texas) the use of degree titles from the university may be restricted or illegal.”
It became known for issuing bogus degrees, and has even changed its name, now calling itself “Californina Miramar University.”

How common is PAS?
In 1995, Dr. Paul Sachdef, professor of social work at Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada, conducted 70 in-depth interviews of women who had elective abortions during the previous 6 to 12 months.
They are typical of women who have sought abortions: aged 18 to 25, single, white females. All had terminated their first pregnancy during the first trimester giving mental health as their reason for seeking an abortion.
He concluded: Two-thirds of the woman had used contraceptives rarely or not at all. Three-fourths of the woman thought they would not become pregnant. Almost 80% “felt relief and satisfaction” soon after the abortion.
Long term guilt or depression were rare. Elective abortion is less traumatic than giving a child up for adoption. Women do not lightly decide to have an elective abortion.
June Scandiffino (Toronto ON Right to Life) disagreed with his findings. She wonders about the 10% of women who declined to be interviewed. She maintains that the “Post-traumatic abortion syndrome” may not emerge until perhaps 7 years after the elective abortion.
Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, a famous opponent of abortion, was asked by President Reagan to study the health effects of induced abortions. He responded in a 1989-JAN-8 letter that he could not form a conclusion from the available data. A year later, Dr. Koop told representatives of some pro-life groups that the risk of significant emotional problems after an abortion was “miniscule”.
In 1989, a panel of the American Psychological Association unanimously concluded that legal abortion “does not create psychological hazards for most women undergoing the procedure.” They found that about 21% of US adult women had had an abortion. If severe emotional reactions were common, then they would have expected to notice an epidemic of women seeking treatment. No evidence of such a flood was observed.
The American Psychological Association conducted an 8 year study involving almost 5,295 women, starting in 1979. The women were interviewed each year until 1987. The researchers found that the best predictor of of the women’s well-being during the study was their well-being at the start of the study. Whether they had had an abortion or not during the interval covered by the study did not seem to affect their mental health. Neither did their income level, job status, educational attainment, marital status, etc. In other words, they were unable to detect the existence of PAS.
The American Psychological Association further analyzed the data from the 1979-1987 study and issued a press release on 1997-JAN-31. 14 They concluded:
“Data from [a] long-term study demonstrate that even highly religious women are not at significantly greater risk of psychological distress because they had an abortion.”
This time they included an analysis of the woman’s religious beliefs and practices – specifically:
whether they were affiliated with a religious group, or were not religious. If religious, whether they attended church often or rarely.
They found that:
“…having had an abortion (or more than one) had no relation with self-esteem”
the “…type of religion to which women who had an abortion belonged also did not make a difference in their post-abortion well-being…”
Thus, even religious women did not appear to suffer from PAS at a detectable level. They further analyzed the data for the Roman Catholic women in the study. They found that “highly religious Catholic women were slightly more likely to exhibit postabortion psychological distress than other women…” But this is probably explained by the presence of a lower level of well-being at the start of the study by the devout Catholics, rather than any after-effect of the abortion.
JTM, go back and search Jill’s archives. We had a long discussion about Reardon, with actual refutation of his thesis.
In the “study” on which his book is based, he draws his population from the political group Women Exploited by Abortion (“WEBA”). He then attempts to generalize his results to the whole population of women.
Anyone who has taken even one statistics/epidemiology course can spot the flaw.

Pip, why no, I didn’t. Eh, Amy’s acting is good, so she does kind of draw you in. I guess I can meet you in the middle on that one.
Reardon discusses the limitations of his studies/surveys on his site. Where is your proof that 93% of post-abortive women never have any regrets about killing their children, or that the absence thereof is in itself healthy? For the record, I agree with Burstyn’s efforts to not look back with regret nor forward in fear, but around in awareness, as she appears to be doing; looking up in faith is also a great asset to a healthy perspective; but to be so cold, calloused, and devoid of human feeling as to have a child killed in cold blood without a pang of regret or remorse is characteristic of a psychopath, not a mentally sound human being; and, given the aforementioned elements of deception, fear, desperation, manipulation, coercion, etc. at work in most induced abortion “decisions”, I’m inclined to give the majority of post-abortive women credit for not being that mentally/emotionally dead..yet. Perhaps I’m wrong about that; I’ve certainly met some who seem awfully close, but I haven’t observed them to be in the majority, and I think that’s a good thing. Further, many suppress the guilt/grief/regret for years because they simply don’t feel that they can deal with it. That’s not healthy, either; because then when something does stir those buried emotions or lance those deeply festering wounds, they can erupt with an intensity that can be overwhelming.
Perhaps you are also trying to the findings of your own dealings with post-abortive women onto others that you don’t know? It does not take a course in statistics/ epidemiology, psychology, logic, etc. to know that the faults we identify and censure the most readily in others are often our own; just an candid look at the fallen human heart. I am not personally inclined to take very seriously anything stated by someone who posits that induced abortion is anything other than the wicked, deliberate, premeditated taking of an innocent human life; e.g., murder.
I also know that rejection of academically qualified students on the basis of their religious beliefs or politically incorrect views is rampant among established, “legitimate”, accredited institutions of “higher learning”, so lack of accreditation, while it may have some legitimacy, may also be yet another form of suppression of politically dissident thought/expression, also rampant among the upper echelons of secular education, so that in itself would not necessarily discredit any of Reardon’s findings.
And God knows that if there is any entity that is considered politically correct, has a multi-million dollar vested interest in maintaining a positive public image, has proven many times to be fraudulent, fights informed consent tooth and nail, and will stoop to anything/stop at nothing to get away with more murder, it’s the abortion cartel. But enough, for now, about them.

There is no reason at all not to let a pregnant woman decide for herself where, when or how to get her hair done, what kind of shoes she wants, where to go out to eat, to shop, to go to school, what to study, and all sorts of other innocent matters.
But there are several very good reasons not to allow anyone to premeditatedly commission, commit, or aid and abet the cold-blooded murder of an innocent child, whether the child is born or unborn, and whether or not the perpetrator is pregnant; especially in the name of health care.
The first, and most obvious, is clearly stated twice in the second post on this thread; you might have missed or forgotten it, so here it is again: YOU DO NOT CREATE A CIVILIZED, SAFE, HEALTHY, JUST, OR OPTIMALLY FREE SOCIETY (THE KIND ALL REASONABLE PEOPLE OF CONSCIENCE DESIRE, BOTH FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR OTHERS) BY PERMITTING THE STRONG TO PREY UPON THE WEAK WITH IMPUNITY.
The unborn are the most innocent members of society; hence, they do not deserve to be executed. Paradoxically, they are also both the weakest members by reason of their relative size and stage of development, yet also the strongest in that none of their potential is wasted, misused, or even developed; it is all ahead of them; they do not need to be killed. They also do not choose, or desire, to be slaughtered, and can respond to touch (read, feel pain) while yet in the first trimester of their life. (see silentscream.org for the evidence).
I know some people will postulate that if “safe, legal” abortions are not available, then desperate women will be harmed by sleazy, back-alley abortionists, or they will harm themselves by self-induced abortions. As is further pointed out in the second post on this thread, the majority of legal, induced abortions involve so many elements of deception, manipulation, ignorance, desperation, and coercion that they cannot be called real choices at all by any thinking person with a clear conscience and a straight face. Desperate women are still harmed by legal abortions, and some of them still harm themselves trying to self-induce. So go put your coathanger to some constructive use, back in your closet where it belongs.
Legalized abortion on demand has never been about “a woman’s right to choose”; it was about a doctor’s right to play God and kill off whoever (s)he chooses; and history proves that disposing in this way of the Hippocratic Oath, with it’s overarching/undergirding first principle, FIRST DO NO HARM, turns doctors into killers, and endangers all who put their lives into the hands of such death profiteers (not real healthcare providers). Any Auschwitz survivor or honest student of the history of the Nazi holocaust can attest to that. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, who helped coin the slogans that are still the mantras and rallying cries of the proabortion movement, said this after genuine repentance of all his involvement in abortion made a more honest human being of him: “I remember laughing when we made those slogans up…We were looking for some sexy, catchy slogans to capture public opinion. They were very cynical slogans then, just as all of these slogans today are very, very cynical.”
Abortion is not a reproductive reset button, though it is marketed as that. It is a savage act of violence that slaughters an innocent little boy or girl, and it is a violent assault on a vital part of any woman, physically, emotionally, and psychologically which countless women have found to be mercilessly unforgiving of shabby treatment, let alone violent assault. It wasn’t designed for that. Pregnancy is not a disease; it is a normal function of a healthy reproductive system, and process is set in motion at fertilization which naturally ends in childbirth; if is violently, prematurely terminated by induced abortion. Since you’re a man, of course, and clearly have no medical knowledge of such matters, maybe you can relate to this: If you were to take car out on the interstate, rev it up to a high speed and suddenly slam it into reverse, wouldn’t that have some negative repercussions on the car? Inducing an abortion of a pregnancy always has a negative impact on a woman, physically, emotionally, and mentally. It may show up sooner or later, but in some way, it will manifest as a living death for the mother just as it was a heinous death for her child.
Allowing a pregnant woman to choose to kill her own child with impunity conditions society to handle social problems by violence, to exploit,harm & kill those weaker than ourselves; it corrupts the medical profession, turning healers into killers; it corrupts law and law enforcement as it executes the innocent and frees serial killers to continue the carnage unchallenged; it encourages men to sexually exploit women and take no responsibility for the woman’s well-being or any children he may father; and it recklessly, needlessly, endangers the life and health of pregnant women. Even Alan Guttmacher, past president of Planned Parenthood, made this admission about “therapeutic” abortions in 1987:
