Planned Parenthood Fed acknowledges Aurora battle
Hey, she stole our line.
A couple hours ago Planned Parenthood prez Cecile Richards sent the following email to her list, acknowledging Aurora as “ground zero” in the war over abortion, just a few days behind Eric Scheidler. At least we agree….

By this PP is obviously acknowledging that the situation in Aurora has escalated beyond a local skirmish into a major battle. Hooah. Apparently, Chicago PP CEO Steve Trombley is a girly-man general who can no longer handle the situation and may also have majorly miscalculated by concealing the clinic’s intended occupants a little too long.
Pro-aborts can’t scrape up bodies to show support? Pay $$ for a ribbon. PP can plaster thousands for just a few bucks. What a great money making scheme to boot.
Recall the photo montage I posted of moms, dads, children, and grandparents at the August 25 protest. According to PP, they represented the “anti-choice fringe.” Such liars. And no mention of PP’s alleged fraud. Of course, I’m not surprised.
Here’s the text of the letter with the actual next to it. (Click that to enlarge.)

Dear ,
Something amazing is happening. Right now, this very moment.
Ground zero in the fight for women’s access to reproductive health care just landed in a town in the middle of America.
Aurora, Illinois.
Aurora’s not really a town. It’s a fast-growing city outside Chicago where Planned Parenthood just built a large clinic. And ten days ago, the usual suspects in the anti-choice fringe showed up in droves – and by droves, I mean more people are protesting this clinic than we’ve seen for a long time.
That’s why we need your help. Today. Right now. We’re getting ready to open the clinic soon and we need your support – your support of Planned Parenthood and the clinic, and your support of the women of Aurora. From wherever you live, and with whatever time you have – you can help.
To be honest, it’s going to take all of our efforts to open this clinic. When the leaders of national groups like Operation Rescue and the Pro-Life Action League showed up and positioned the battle in Aurora as a top priority, we couldn’t just fight back. We knew we had to take this battle into our own hands – and into YOUR own hands – by opening with more warmth, more strength, and more solidarity with supporters than ever before.
You see, what’s happening in Aurora isn’t just some isolated incident. What’s happening in Aurora today is what’s happening in America. It’s not a war on a clinic – it’s a war on women’s access to needed health care – in Aurora, and across our country.
Planned Parenthood is showing up for this fight. I hope you will, too.
And PP thought the Aurora mill needed some PR so is showcasing a very nice artist’s rendering, not the actual site, on its homepage. Click to enlarge:

I guess this is them “sounding the troops”. It’s so telling that they refuse to acknowledge their shady deeds, and instead act as though a few nut jobs are intent on keeping HEALTHCARE from women.
They fail to mention that while they will have the largest abortuary in the land, they still won’t be providing basic prenatal care. I’m waiting on the day Planned Parenthood acknowledges that they’re really pushing anything but parenthood. Something tells me I’ll be waiting quite some time.
And of course, PP
Well if you simply by a ribbon but don’t actually show up, at least you won’t need to hold a pro-life sign over your head to protect you from the sun!
Seriously, this is awesome. When are they planning this little broo-ha-ha? We’ll just have to get 12,000 people to show up instead of 1200. No problem.
Bring it on.
Yeah, MK this is just making me want to plan a nice, relaxing trip to Chicago…
Oh look they need Reproductive Health Assistant…check out the requirements to qualify for this “important” sounding position…
Position Description
Title: Reproductive Health Assistant
Location: Aurora, IL
Hours: Full Time
Operated by: Planned Parenthood Chicago Area
Primary Responsibilities:
Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area (PP/CA) has been a trusted name in women
I’ll put you guys up at my house if you want to come!
How about you Jill?
“It’s not a war on a clinic – it’s a war on women’s access to needed health care – in Aurora”
oh yea, we’re against womens heath care! what liars, they can’t even say the word abortion.
They call themselves Planned Parenthood , because they are not planning your parenthood. They are planning your barren hood. So many women quipe about about PP providing exams and health services for women. If that was all they did, I wouldn’t give a hoot. Their #1 goal is to kill children. That’s where their big bucks are!!
Well, Jasper, you know that I spend my days picketing doctors that perform pap smears right? I mean…isn’t that what being pro-life is about? It’s not? Man, I guess Planned Parenthood lied to me!
Ya Lauren,….me too…..I’m soooo against pap smears!
Looks like we are gearing up for another public smack-down! What PP forgets is this ain’t 1973 with millions of Christians asleep. This is 2007, baby, we are ready for this battle, bring it on
Troy
amen Troy
I’m concerned that the position is a cover-all position, wherein the requirement is only a high school diploma, while the person is required to do a variety of tasks, all with different educational needs: secretarial work, counseling, and patient accounts/billing.
I would think a person who would be counseling patients from complicated and differing life situations (potentially including abuse, homelessness, and sexual assualt) in medical information should at least be a L.C.S.W. (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) with a Bachelors of Art/Science in Social Work. Counseling of this nature is serious and complex and should be only handled by a qualified counselor. And I’m sorry, but the education, knowledge, and experience to become a qualified and professional counselor isn’t something that can be learned overnight or even in a week.
Also, while anyone can schedule appointments and take phone calls, because they are a medical office and due to the complexity and extensiveness of the secreterial work, shouldn’t they require at least 2 yrs of college with a related degree (medical assisting, business, or accounting) or equivelent in experience? Most any other doctor’s office would have higher standards.
Rachael, I agree with that!

Fine, as long as you hold CPC counselors and post-abortive counselors to that same standard, I’m all for it.
Rachel,
You missed the secret code. They want champagne on a beer budget… they only want to PAY high school graduate or equivalent wages, NOT LCSW wages! And they should be bilingual to boot.
Anyone notice their “values” aren’t really values? Dictionary.com:
Values…10. values, Sociology. the ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of a society toward which the people of the group have an affective regard…
11. Ethics. any object or quality desirable as a means or as an end in itself.
“Access” is a value, now?
So, does this mean that Aurora has gone all this time without good health care for women? Wow! what a slam on all the Doctors offices that are already there that provide these services to women.
Oh wait – Are they saying that is is not a good women’s health care unless abortion is provided? And I thought abortion wasn’t their top priority.
Aurora isn’t even a town according to them. Just like it’s not really a baby. But ask them if money is really money and I would guess they say yes.
“Aurora

Woah, wait a minute. It’s Planned Parenthood who’s always held themselve up as a professional health organization and criticized others for not having professional counselors on staff, yet they do not either. Not only is it not in the patient’s best interests, but is also hypocritical. Why not then have professional counselors on staff?
However, in contrast crisis pregnancy centers are more of volunteer supported social service organizations, and have always acknowledged that they only offer peer counseling, however more centers are recruiting clinical social workers to provide counseling.
Rachael,
You make an excellent point. Someone who finished high school and who may have some experience will counsel and educate clients on health care matters? Someone like this will certainly cost a lot less than a credentialled counselor. You’re right about doctor’s offices Rachael. Properly trained and credentialled people fill positions and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Laura,
I volunteered at a CPC. Standards were very strict. Clients were referred to credentialled counselors if they so desired or if we saw a need. We did not counsel. Clients were referred to their own physicians or given a physician referral, we were strictly forbidden to counsel on any medical matters and clients were advised of this. Birth control was considered a medical matter and clients were referred to physicians.
MK:
So I can come stay with you to protest your protest, lol??
When I worked at a CPC, we did not charge for services. We offered free pregnancy tests, and peer counseling.
Also, we were specifically trained NOT to tell women they were pregnant, but rather say something like “Your pregnancy test was positive”. Pregnancy is a diagnosis and could only be dx by health care professionals.
Good point Milehimama. Like you, we also had to refer the woman to a physician for a final diagnosis. Even if the test was negative, the woman was advised to see a medical professional for follow up care, just in case there was another medical problem.
Our point is that crisis pregnancy centers are not medical clinics and do not counsel on indepth health and medical conditions, but rather they’re there to provide more of a peer-supported social service: emotional support, education classes (parenting, adoption, etc), material support (maternity and children’s clothes, diapers, formula, baby furniture, blankets, etc) provide referrals to medical, counseling, and other community organizations to assist her meet her housing, financial, employment, food, and educational needs.
Thats correct Rachael, one doesn’t have to be an expert in health care to offer support to a pregnant woman.
Midnite,
Will you go to mass the next day? And buy us lunch like Danny did?
Oh, you can come anyway…hey, you’re in the market for a new guy…have I mentioned that I have a son?
Bad MK!! BAD!!!
Stop trying to “sell” your son! ;-)
As for the job discription for PP. Now do we see why they don’t want to be considered an Ambulatory Surgical Center? If they were, they would have to have licensed/certified people in some of those job rolls…
oh..and MK… You do realize that Chicago is just a 3 1/2 hour train ride from here… and Amtrak tickets are cheaper than putting gas in the car…..
I think it would be fun to have midnite protest us protesters. I can see it now…we will be arguing back and forth….throwing signs around… then the next thing you know we will be comparing notes on dating and antidepressants and trying to figure out why Cameron hasn’t repsonded yet…. That sounds like fun!
;-)
MK, Valerie, Midnite: We have a guest room at our house. What fun it would be to house Valerie and Midnite – together – for the next picket… :)
I’ll send the hubby and kids to your house, and EVERYONE can come here…We’ll have the house to ourselves. That way he can’t complain about the four thousand two hundred and ninety seven lemmings running around. Nor the smell of mullet pizza!
Regular or DeCaf ladies? Jasper you too! And John, we’ll figure out someway to get you up the stairs. Bobby, you’ll have to come too! Men on the first floor, ladies on the second (It’s got more girly colors upstairs, not to mention the computer AND two bathrooms!).
I’ll even smoke “outside”! Let’s see, I’ll need blowup beds, extra pillows, mints to put on them, fresh flowers for all the rooms, extra toothbrushes, shampoo, (wait, where will I put the midgets?), wine, beer, more blow dryers, we’ll let Bethany cook, Purina Lemming Chow, candles, cheesy novels, a maid, towels (let me know your favorite color), RUM, Johhny Depp movies,…If I leave now, I might be able to get everything by January…
Also, we were specifically trained NOT to tell women they were pregnant, but rather say something like “Your pregnancy test was positive”. Pregnancy is a diagnosis and could only be dx by health care professionals.
They trained me the same way at ours…we are supposed to tell them, and have them sign a paper agreeing that they understand, that our tests are only 99 percent accurate, and that the only way to be absolutely certain about the results is by going to a medical professional.
When they have a positive, we tell them that the test was positive. We are not allowed to say, “You are pregnant”.
I turned on the TV last month, and there was Cecile Richards. I did watch. There were a few pro lifers there. She kept on putting the emphasis on “Women’s health.” She concluded by saying “I hope George Bush is the last pro life president we ever see.”… I can agree that if ALL PP did was administer health care to women, I wouldn’t have an issue with them. I can’t see where abortion is a part of a woman’s health care.
Hey MK, I just read that pathetic job description.
” …demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PP/CA core values of respect, knowledge, responsibility, choice, health, compassion and access; practice these values in relations with internal and external customers.
In what world is “access” a core value?
Did you notice that none of the babies is smiling in that picture from the Vogue puff piece on Cecile Richards?
My theory: Born babies have a sixth sense for detecting shameless propaganda aimed at convincing people there’s nothing wrong with killing unborn babies.

Personally, when I was in undergrad, my local Planned Parenthood was such a blessing. We (guys and girls) went there for birth control and condoms and STD testing. I’ve never received anything but open-minded medical advice there, at a good cost (which is why Planned Parenthood is an additional asset over local doctor’s offices).
Surely you realize that many women want abortions? There’s no motivation for talking women into abortions the way you are motivated to talk them out of them. Planned Parenthood simply provides the spectrum of desired services. Plus the education and birth control provided by Planned Parenthood work to prevent unplanned pregnancy.
There’s no motivation for talking women into abortions
That’s just naive, when people are charged $250-$800 for an abortion. What’s the motivation? $$$$$
How else could this non-profit have tens of millions of dollars in their ‘reserves’?
Planned Parenthood was such a blessing
I’m sure the irony of that modifier eludes you.
BTW, does anyone have any numbers on Planned Parenthood referred adoptions? Or know where I can find stats?
Thanks.
Hi Milehimama. Here are some stats from 1998-2003. Also, their latest annual report can be found here. Of course, adoption isn’t mentioned in that report, probably because it is so low. Finally, the 2003-2004 annual report is here. Their adoption numbers for that year are on page 11. Quite low, so we can only imagine that that is why they didn’t report adoption numbers in their latest report, of course that is pure speculation. As the “experts” at teenwire.com would say, Hope this information helps!
Take care
