News flash: Aurora Mayor Weisner cancels police protection
OpenlineBlog tells me Mayor Tom Weisner cancelled his police protection at 5p last night, which I mentioned yesterday he had initiated.
The mayor likely feared an et tu Brutus scenario, since Aurora police are planning a protest before the Aurora City Council meeting this Tuesday over an ongoing labor dispute. OLB is calling for every contingent with any complaint against the mayor to pile on the protest, which sounds like fun.
Meanwhile, OLB reports Alayne Weingartz has zoned out on our side’s zoning appeal….
… Weingartz, the so-called corporation counsel for the City of Aurora, has apparently been either confused or not competent enough to respond to the request filed to Aurora’s Zoning Board of Appeals on the Planned Parenthood permit.
Attorneys say the filing of the appeal should grant a stay of the permit for 30 days or in the interim while the appeal is being considered.
So, does Weingartz say yes or no?
Nothing. She says nothing. Maybe she thinks if she stays AWOL on the issue, it will evaporate?
Weisner and Weingartz apparently thought, as the US Supreme Court did 34.5 years ago, that proclaiming an abortion issue resolved settles it. Haha.
On that zoning topic, Eric Scheidler said in an email alert yesterday:
I also want you to know that we really do have a good shot at halting operations at the Planned Parenthood facility soon through the law.
I’m not at liberty to discuss the details yet, but our legal team is hard at work and feeling more confident every day.
But it’s going to take a week before we make our next move.
I’ve been privy to reading some of those details. Stay tuned. Do not for a second lose hope on this.
UPDATE, 10:03a: Eric also reported PP Aurora committed no abortions this week but likely will next week.

Does anyone have a link to the appeal that was sent to the Zoning Board? I know I saw it somewhere the other day, but haven’t been able to find it since. I’m really curious about this issue. I went through all 200+ pages of the Aurora Zoning Ordinance and cannot find whatever section it is that is being relied on to provide for a stay.
I’m still hopeful. And curious is Eric Scheidler is single…
Oh wow, I am hopeful!!!
Well here is some wonderful news! And Grand Rapids is my hometown!
Bobby,
Praise God!!!!! Thanks for your post! It was a HUGE blessing to me! I’ll make sure I print it & bring it to the vigil tonight! I was hoping that Aurora’s opening would be the downfall of this evil entity!!! Thanks again!
I think this is my favorite part of Bobby’s link:
“The reduction stems from changes in how the state allocates money. Under the new formula, funds are distributed according to the percentage of recipients below the poverty line. This year, Planned Parenthood will receive $1 million in state and federal funds, down from $1.7 million last year.
Sherstad said there are more than 100 pregnancy and adoption centers in Michigan serving women
Jacque, even pro-aborts admit Eric is a pro-life sex symbol… :) To answer your question, he’s married with 8 kids. He credits his wife with helping him return to the faith.
Jill,
Of course! All the male pro-life activists are married with a full brood. Why are they all so sexy? Something about respecting women and protecting children does something for me…*sigh*
Of course I’ve dated my share of pro-life activists that weren’t so awesome. Still waiting for the right one, I guess.
Bobby-
Do you know the Grandys? They’re a Pentecostal pro-life activist family that I used to work closely with in the movement in Dallas. Amy is a sonographer and Mike is an accountant at the university in Grandville. They moved to Grandville last year.
Amy’s on facebook: Amy Grandy.
WOW, awesome news, Bobby!!!!
“Do you know the Grandys?”
Nope, can’t say as I do. Back when I lived in GR, I wasn’t really “into” the pro-life movement, so there’s really no reason why I’d know anyone involved in pro-life work. But hopefully when I move back there (please God) I’ll meet them and all sorts of other wonderful people. God love you Jacque.
Hey Jacque,
While Eric might be married, word has it that Jeff ( of the video/slide shows on Jill’s) is single and “looking”…He awfully cute, very prolife, smart as a whip and wants boatloads of kids…hmmmmmm….
hmmmmmm….
What a coincidence. I, too am awfully cute, very prolife, smart as a whip and want boatloads of kids. :)
And humble, too.
Exactly how many is a “boatload” (ouch!)
“Exactly how many is a “boatload””
As a mathematician, I am at liberty to answer that. Infinity-billion.
Well, I am 27. It takes a while to meet someone. 6 months to prepare for marriage in the Church. 9 months for a baby to bake. So, if everything goes warp speed and I have my first baby in my early 30’s, unless I have multiples, my boatload will only be around 6 or 7 (not including adopted children).
“UPDATE, 10:03a: Eric also reported PP Aurora committed no abortions this week but likely will next week.”
I wonder how Eric gets this information right away?
….speaking of a boat load of kids, we had 7 kids in our family and I had 4 older brothers, needless to say, I was roughed up a few times..
Hey Jill:
Sorry I’ve ignored you guys.
A lot has happened in the last 4 months.
My business situations have been resolved satisfactorily, I’ve lost 40 pounds, and we’re starting the house soon. What appeared to be a terrible year has turned out better than expected.
It goes to show that the Lord will use all kinds of trials to perfect us if we just believe.
I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!
HisMan,
Nice to hear from you again buddy!
btw: whats the trick in losing 40 pounds, I need to…I’ve never met a cheeseburger I didn’t like.
HI HIS MAN!!
Welcome back, Hisman!
I wonder how Eric gets this information right away?
Because he’s the brother of my future husband, of course!
HISMAN!!!!!!!
You’ve been missed! I’m so glad you are back!
*smooch*
Bobby Bambino,
I was related to half the population of Grand Rapids, though many have now passed on. My great-grandmother and her daughters lived there.
Valerie,
I understand Michigan is in a huge budget crunch and serious financial trouble. So it will solve this problem with a tax increase which Michigan residents need like another plague. I would wonder how the poverty level of Michigan could be decreasing under the circumstances, but I hope it is since people are going to have to dig deeper into their pockets.
“Because he’s the brother of my future husband, of course!”
jacque, you have good taste in men.
Hi Heather!
Hi jasper!
His Man, please stay!
Jill Stanek,
A good looking sexy pro-life man! Hey, I ain’t dead yet. Some of the ladies are also quite young and attractive.
Anyway, that should put the kabosh to the argument of pro-lifers being aging white males and clergymen, and female prolifers as doddering old spinsters pushing 200 years old.
What a far cry from the days when prolife demonstrations were described, by a not unbiased media, as consisting of white haired ladies waving roses and parochial school children.
You guys should have seen the DC march for life. There was a lot of young blood there! I was so proud of them.
Good point Mary.
Jacque,
Hey! MK has a son…lol!
Exactly how many is a “boatload” (ouch!)
A _ _ _ _ load, but you’re not supposed to swear here.
Doug
Jacquie,

So, if everything goes warp speed and I have my first baby in my early 30’s, unless I have multiples, my boatload will only be around 6 or 7 (not including adopted children)?
Well, what are you waitin’ for? You know I was trying to auction off my own son…never mind.
(He wants boatloads of kids, but right now is as poor as a church mouse and wants to live in Africa and work with the poor…which means he will stay as poor as a church mouse. He is really cute tho)
Jeff is, I believe, 32. Catholic, never been married, a revert, and way talented.
There’s a pic of him somewhere on this blog…
Where do you live?
*wince* 8 children? Jeez. As I have often heard it said, it is a vagina, not a clown car.
Well, Steve can take me off his list!…seems like a boatload is just too much of a load for me!
:)
Jacquie,
Here’s a pic of Jeff…tho it’s not great.

He’s the one squinting at the newspaper.
“8 children? Jeez. As I have often heard it said, it is a vagina, not a clown car.”
What happened to choice, Erin? God love you.
Oh, to each his own. The concept of pushin’ 8 babies out my lady parts just tends to creep me out substantially.
Oh, to each his own. The concept of pushin’ 8 babies out my lady parts just tends to creep me out substantially.
All Hail the Epidural!
Pushing is the hardest part. That’s what I thought.
MK, I give these women a lot of credit when they do it naturally..OUCH!
Hi Erin.
“Oh, to each his own. The concept of pushin’ 8 babies out my lady parts just tends to creep me out substantially.”
Fair enough.
MK-
“All Hail the Epidural!”
Is that good? My wife and I were discussing if she wanted to do that or the IV or nothing. What do you think?
Bobby, good luck on that special day! When is your wife due? My turn…God love you, Bobby.
I had an emergency c-section…that REALLY sucked!
We should have a little on-line celebration for Bobby on his special day….
All Hail the Epidural!
So artificial birth control to prevent pregnancy is bad, but artificial drugs to make delivery easier are good?
yes, if you need them, take them.
Ray,
Pretty much!
PL Laura, LOL!
jasper, that sounds grand. jasper, I was at the hair salon yesterday, and I came across the article about the man who tossed his wife off of the balcony. It was in a magazine.
Bobby,
I have six kids. The first one is 26. 26 years ago, you could still smoke in your hospital room, but epidurals were not offered.
With the middle two, you could smoke in the waiting room, and narcotics were the drug of the day.
With the last two (7 and 10), I told the doctor if he didn’t give me an epidural, I wasn’t giving birth! And I meant it! Four natural childbirths was enough, thank you very much.
The trick is to go in when you’re dilated 5 or 6, otherwise you’re there for EVER…but after 6, you might no longer have the option of the epidural. It’s tricky.
I was the birthing coach for my daughter in laws 2 babies (one of which was born just last Friday) and the doctor laughed and told the nurse that I was a relic…no one knows how to coach women through natural childbirth anymore, cuz they all do the epidural.
Personally, I want to sue the first four doctors for holding out on me. I didn’t even smear my lipstick and worked on a cross word puzzle up til it was time to push with the last one!
And recovery was sooooo much easier.
While it is a personal choice, you need to make it now, because once the contractions really kick in, it might be too late.
If she waits to go to the hospital, she’ll have plenty of time to be doubled over in pain. So she can have the best/worst of both worlds.
With Sarah’s first baby, however, the epidural only took on one side, so there’s no guarantee.
Just tell her when it’s time to push to make sure her chin is touching her chest. Single most important thing to remember.
And when you’re coaching her? Make her look in your eyes while she’s having a heavy duty contraction…don’t let her close them. Recite the alphabet, count to 50, tell her a story, but make sure she’s looking you in the eye. You are her control, cuz she won’t be capable of self control once she reaches the point of no return.
But bottom line is, All Hail the Epidural!
Oh yea, I remember that. Remember how I had all of the pro-choicers up in arms because I said I was pro-choice when it came to throwing your sick wife off the balconey…LOL! ….I did that to prove how offensive/misleading the “pro-choice” term really is. However, that guy was a real loser and I feel terrible for that woman.
Yep, I agree we razzed them a bit, but the article did say that she was really draining him emotionally. An unwanted kid could do the same. He threw her off the balcony. Amy Grossberg threw her baby boy into a dumpster. The difference? NONE!
yeah, my sister had the epidural, was dialated at 9, & was sleeping like a baby! (I just wanted to pinch her soooooo bad so she’d feel some kind of pain…ok, I was jealous!)
PL Laura, that’s normal.
Thanks for the advice, MK. I’ll let my bride know. Heather, we’re due November 8. God love ya’ll!
EEEWWW, right around the corner. Okay all, gotta run!
MK, I give these women a lot of credit when they do it naturally..OUCH!
(shudder) Heather, on that we are agreed.
Doug

Jasper, you’re embellishing a good bit there, and just how many people do you think are really for the guy, admittedly a “loser,” throwing his wife off the balconey?
Doug
Hey Bobby – When I had my first I got the best advice from my labor nurse. She said “They don’t give prizes for pain.” Tell your wife to take the epidural! ;)
yes, if you need them, take them.
Pretty much!
More hypocrisy.
Any insurance that covers viagra and the like should also cover birth control. It’s only fair.
Any insurance that refuses to cover birth control shouldn’t cover elective epidurals or elective ceasereans. It’s only fair.
Coming from a MAN, this does not surprise me!!!
Any insurance that refuses to cover birth control shouldn’t cover elective epidurals or elective ceasereans. It’s only fair.
Posted by: Ray at October 5, 2007 4:00 PM
Come again?
First off, what is an elective ceaserean?
And second off, I’ll give up the epidurals for childbirth, when you volunteer to give birth instead of me…
MK, Jacque and Jeff. Wow, great idea! Seriously. Jeff is ready to settle down and have kids 9 months after the I do, as I understand it. Very smart. And MK’s right, a pro-life hottie. Solid, solid Catholic. So solid he jazzed up his brother to the point he joined the priesthood. Matchmaker MK, get to work on this!
Hi Ray. I think your comparison between the two doesn’t work. What I would say is that birth control destroys the very purpose of sex. Pain medication only lessens the pain of the act of giving birth, in which case you are still giving birth. It seems to me, then, that birth control is to sex what abortion is to pregnancy, not epidurals to birth. One is destroying the very purpose of the act, as opposed to completing the act with the purpose of the acts intention as an end, albeit with one side effect of the act mitigated. God love you.
His Man, Hi! Welcome back!
Jill, Jaquie, Jeff (why can’t my name start with a “J”?)
I expect to be invited to dinner AND to be Godmother to at least one of your children…
Now, where to meet….hmmmmmmm…
My poor son, loses another one…
MK,
An elective Cesarean is one done by the choice of the patient and/or doctor. There is no medical reason for it, the mother could deliver normally but chooses not to. Celebrities seem to have a lot of these.
Bobby the Kid,
Epidurals have their risks, I’m assuming you and the wife have looked into it already. Had my 3 naturally, one at a birthing center. I was lucky to be in a hospital that had labor tubs. Being in the water during labor helped immensely.
And a doula was a plus since she knew what was going on at the hospital end as well as the couple end. Had her for all 3 births.
But it’s up to ya’ll. Happy wife, happy life.
So why do I find out about this pro-life single 9 years after the fact???
Mary,
That’s nuts!
Now Jill,
Would you mind having a catholic son-in-law? Is he your daughter’s type, the one in DC that is?
(Oh, sorry Jacqueline, didn’t mean to start a tug of war here!) ;-)
Ladies,
Sorry you had pain with your labor and delivery, but there is wide variation.
My mom was always telling those horror stories.
My births were both natural; no pain drugs.
I had almost no pain at all with my first.
He was born 15 minutes after we got to the hospital.
Second was induced. 2 hours labor, 20 minutes of a pain and pop goes the baby.
I’m not saying nobody has it rough, but people need to hear the good stories, too.
MK & Jill,

Awww…the newspaper squinter. He is a cutie (even all sqwunched up).
Poor as a church mouse…I tell you, it’s a fabulous existence! I know what that’s like because I’m a social worker that relies on God for everything. (I even sold out to do administration and stats, and I’m still make less than my friends with bachelor’s degrees). I love the mission field, however my mission field are the sidewalks in front of abortion clinics and the steps of the state capitol.
What am I waiting for? I’m waiting for the RIGHT man. I’ve had the wrong man. Several wrong mans. And as I just became a Catholic a few months back, I’m glad I didn’t settle down with a Catholic-minded evangelical (the type I once thought I would marry). Because now I realize I want a full-fledged uber-Catholic. :)
I’m a Dallas girl, not Chicago, so a blind date probably won’t happen anytime soon. Besides, I’m getting over my pro-life activist ex-boyfriend who was so passionate in all of his morals yet lived out less than 5% of them. Hence, I’m off the market for a while while Jesus works his healing and restoration.
But I’m at the march for life in D.C. every year (and that without fail, and I could bet you, being a Scheidler, he’ll be there too. I could go for some Ethiopian food in Georgetown if he’s interested. I should be back in the game by then. And to be fair, here’s a picture of me:
Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make me a Match!
P.S. Godmother? Of course, MK! Besides, as good Catholics, one of our daughters must have the first name Mary. :)
P.S. How embarassed would Jeff be knowing that ladies talk about him this way??? :)
Ray,
Easy. There’s nothing wrong with pain control. At the end of labor, even with an epidural, she still has a little human being. Sex with contraceptives, at the end, you don’t have what you could have had, which is a little human being. There’s no comparison between easing someone’s pain and perverting the sex act to suit your desires. None at all. I understand that you don’t agree with our opposition to birth control, but why, ever, would someone oppose pain control?
*wince* 8 children? Jeez. As I have often heard it said, it is a vagina, not a clown car.
Erin, that analogy would only make sense if someone had 8 children in her vagina at once. Besides, all the mothers of 8 that I know would gladly give birth to all 8 at once if that’s what it would have taken to have them.
Bobby,
My friends tried to do natural with their first until the doctor INSISTED on an epidural. She nearly passed out from the pain getting to 4 cm. After the epidural, she slept from 4 to 10 and was awakened to push. Everyone was fine.
I think epidurals are a merciful option, especially for those rough first births. It can lower the baby’s heart rate sometimes, but other than that (and some forceps marks on the neck), everyone ends up fine.
Jacquie,
The poor one is my son, Danny, not Jeff. Jeff doesn’t want to do mission work. He wants to work in the Pro Life movement doing videos…and He’s good.
And his last name isn’t Scheidler, don’t know where that confusion came from! Nonetheless, I think you’ll like him.
You can see his video work right here at Jills or got to You Tube…
http://www.youtube.com/user/jeffeschbach
I am going camping to Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin.
I’m leaving in about 20 minutes.
I won’t be back until Thursday…no computers. Heck, no electricity.
Anyway, Behave yourselves. Try not to get into any uproars. Don’t talk about anything exciting while I’m gone.
JILL,
Tell Jeff about Jacquie! She’s realllllly cute!
Okay,
Til Thursday…
Laura,
Be nice.

It seems Doug is annoyed that New York is making an activity legal that should be illegal. Giving a certain group privileges to which they are not entitled.
Hmm,
Hasn’t New York done that before, like in the 1960’s with abortion.
Good one Hippie,
Not to mention that these are “live” people, and they are sentient to boot.
hippie, know what the abortion rate was in New York then?
Something like 1 in 2.
MK,
For simplicity sake, we’ll refer to Danny as Bachelor #1 and Jeff as Bachelor #2. :)
Ain’t it sad? If it weren’t for my stupid broken heart (and living 1000 miles away) I could currently be pimpin’ the single Chicago pro-life circuit! heheheheh
This also from another thread.
Doug wrote regarding restrictions on abortion which are supported by those who promote access to abortion.
“I think it’s 40 or 41 states that have restrictions on abortion at viability, and in practice I don’t know of any clinics in any state that will do abortions after 26 weeks on an elective basis.”
Doug
Posted by: Doug at October 4, 2007 3:04 PM
Notice the words “elective basis” which of course are meaningless because if you say you need an abortion because you have a headache or you feel psychological anguish because you are pregnant, you can go to George Tiller and he’ll fix you up when you are 32 weeks. If you are mentally unable to decide, he will let your parents sign for you, like happened to that girl who had Down Sydrome and died.
If there is money to be made, there will always be someone willing to do the deed.
Also, I would like to see where NARAL, NOW, Planned Parenthood, or the NAF publicly supported any restriction on any abortion in any circumstance whatever.
No matter how reasonable or humane the restriction, they are always opposed to it.
There are no restrictions on abortion that prochoice groups are okay with. They always say any restriction is an infringement.
The states that have restrictions had to fight these groups to get these meager restrictions.
Jacque,
You’re pretty….thats a nice picture.
Thanks, Jasper. My mom says so, too but then again I think moms are required to say that. :)
Bobby,
This link is for you…

PL Laura,
“I had an emergency c-section…that REALLY sucked!”
Same here, but after 34 hours of labor the spinal was just awesome! The healing process is what really sucked!
Jill,
I wanted to alert you about Christianity Today’s October 2nd article about Aurora PP. This particular article did not mention that our side is accusing PP of both civil fraud (not CRIMINAL fraud) and that PP lacks a special permit. I have written CT’s editor. If I had not been informed by the FVFAPP site and your site I would not have had all of the facts.
Bobby, I’ve had five kids and the best advice I ever got was from my mom, who said “Don’t waste your pains by screaming or hollering” When she had my oldest brother, she heard another woman screaming and thought that was the way to go, but the nurse told her, screaming doesn’t allow you to “bear down” where the pains will do the most good. All of my labors were very short, because, for once, I listened to Mom. If you want to test this out, when you go (as my kids say #2) pretend you’re screaming (you don’t really need to let out a scream, just go through the motions) and see how difficult it is to get results. Congrats, Bobby & Bride ~ there’s NOTHING better than a baby!! God love you, too.
Ray:
“Any insurance that covers viagra and the like should also cover birth control. It’s only fair.
Any insurance that refuses to cover birth control shouldn’t cover elective epidurals or elective ceasereans. It’s only fair.”
I still find this ironic. Viagra helps a man who cannot have sex. Sex is something that Pro-Choicers says is a “right” and that no one can stop, but have a medical condition and WAM -no sex for you unless women can have birth control (which insurance does pay for if it is a medical need.) There are alternate methods to not get pregnant without prescription medicine and forcing insurance companies to pay for something that is elective. There are no alternate methods to help a man with medically induced E.D. other than prescription medicine.
Not to mention that my insurance company paid for me to get my tubes tied – no questions asked – but they wouldn’t pay for my daughters government mandated vaccines. Prevent a child…yes the pro-choicers are all for that. Protect a child… heck no; I’ve never seen pro-choicers be up in arms when a living child doesn’t have preventative medicine covered. Even medicaid pays for vaccines.
Bobby –
Epidural. Say it over and over. Epidural!
I accidently had my 2 kids the natural way. I didn’t want to and never intended for it to happen, but my plans were not the ones that were intended for me.
My son was 9 weeks early and I dialated too fast. I never even saw the anesthesiologist until after Dan was born. They had him wait for delivery in case I needed emergency surgery – which I did not have.
My daughter was born right on time. Everything was going smoothly. We made it to the hospital in time (construction was/is horrible around here. It took 30 minutes to get to the hospital that was 10 minutes away!) My Dr. was there. My sisters showed up – one sister lives 1 hour away and the other lives 2 hours away; I still haven’t figured out how they got there so fast. Like I said, everything was going great. Did you know that if you have a sway back you may not be able to have an epidural? You’ll never guess what happened! ;-) My sisters now call me Sybil after the woman who had many different personalities. I’ve never experienced pain like that before. I was too scared and on too many muscle relaxers with my son to feel pain. (muscle relaxers to try to stop the contractions – didn’t work but I didn’t seem to care at the time.) That all said – I would have another child in a heart beat if I could even knowing that I can’t have an epidural. (just to clarify what I said above – I had my tubes tied for medical reason, not voluntary. The chances are very high I would not survive another pregnancy.)
Epidural! Say it over and over!
;-)
I know that some may see my experiences as horror stories. I don’t. It’s a fact of life. Childbirth hurts. But the reward is so magical and beautiful. I forgot all about the pain when the doctor put Catherine on my belly and I finally got to see my little squirmy.
“Prevent a child…yes the pro-choicers are all for that. Protect a child… heck no”
That would be a good QoTD…..plus, I’ll bet there against Jessica’s law which Bill O has been pushing for.
jasper, what’s Jessica’s law?
jacque, you are very beautiful! Both inside and out.
valerie, right. Don’t you forget about all of that pain immediatly after it’s over? I sure did!
Hey all. Thanks for all the great advice.
Carder- You called me “Bobby the Kid.” Either it’s just a coincidence, or you know something very interesting about my past… Will you tell me? God love you.
Oh, wait a sec, Bambino means kid. That’s probably why you wrote it. I’m dumb, never mind.
Bobby, have you decided on a name for your daughter?
Bobby B.
You answered your own question on the second post!
Hope it doesn’t bother you.
“jasper, what’s Jessica’s law?”
I believe it sets a mandatory 20years for child molestation. Some form of it already passed it 42 states.

They may have indeed been against the restrictions – I don’t know. Yet under the Roe decision, restrictions are okay past viability, so it’s not a big deal. If it was only the after-viability stuff that was at issue, this would not be nearly the big deal it now is.
……
The states that have restrictions had to fight these groups to get these meager restrictions.
Well, it is up to the states, so if some of their constituents are against it, you’re just gonna have that.
