Abortion hybrids
Jeremy Siegman in The Cornell Daily Sun blog wrote yesterday:
Obama himself has made a choice, perhaps a kind of leap, to see things differently. He wasn’t born an idealist. He has made the choice not just to see polarized voters and a polarized society (it is there if you want it). Rather than pro-choice and pro-life, he see [sic] hybrids: “the middle-aged feminist who still mourns her abortion, and the Christian woman who paid for her teenager’s abortion.” That’s from his book.
I agree these people (men, too) exist, which is pretty much the problem.
We have polarized pro-lifers and polarized pro-aborts, but then there’s the mushy middle, the great unwashed, moderates, whatever you want to call them. Many, if not most, have been complicit with abortion but feel bad about it. They’ve either had one, caused the “need” for one, paid for one, coerced one, helped someone get one, or known someone close who’s had one.
These are the people who don’t want to think about abortion. They feel guilty and torn, so they psychologically shut down. They hate being reminded, although they can never really get away from it by inestimable triggers….
Pro-lifers must understand this and get over their fear of being disliked for aggravating people when bringing up abortion, when protesting, when showing our signs. There is rarely a conducively created environment to discuss abortion. If we don’t force it, it won’t be discussed, or, of course, dealt with.
Back to Obama, the difference between pro-life and pro-abortion politicians is that pro-lifers, for the most part, walk their talk. Pro-aborts hide their walk behind false talk, trying to garner support of moderates by appealing to their huge dislike of abortion polarization but voting extremely pro-abortion.

Actually, I was in the dark about abortion too. I had no idea that unborn children were shelved to die. I’ve shared that story with some people. Some are shocked, and others have said “Why would a woman wait so long to have an abortion?”
It just goes to show you that abortion is terribly misunderstood. It’s “okay” to kill the baby in the first trimester, but you had better not do it any later then that. ????????
I agree 100%. I believe that’s why the “mushy middle” gets so hostile. They don’t like that prolifers are here to remind them that abortion is out there. They resent being pulled out of their self-imposed bubble, if only for a second. They want to stick their head in the sand. We need to force the issue.

Very good article..you put into words what I think about this issue within politics. I was pretty much a “mushy moderate” until PP Aurora came to town. Thank goodness I’m not anymore.
Carrie, how about this one. Let’s keep abortion safe, legal, and rare. Rare? Why? Why would we want to keep something that is right rare?
They don’t want to answer that one Heather. I have asked that question several times to pcers on this blog and they skate around the issue. They say things like “it is a decision that no woman should have to make”. They can’t answer why it is a decision that no women should have to make. I mean, if abortion is no big deal to them, then why worry? There are plenty of elective surgeries out there. I don’t see the pcers saying “let’s make lasik eye surgery rare.”
However, if it is a “big deal” to them, then why is it? If abortion is an important decision that no woman should have to make, why is that so? Why should it be rare?
Carrie, they can’t answer anything. Think about it. It’s rather difficult to keep a lie going.
BTW, I hear that they are trying to do away with that tired, old mantra.

Very true Heather. I suppose that’s where the need they have to see us as “nuts” comes from. If regular people see abortion as evil, what does that say about them?

The same reason we want to keep open heart surgery rare: because nobody wants to have surgery if it can be avoided with a daily pill, or diet and exercise, etc.
tp, open heart surgery is done to try to save someone’s life. It isn’t set up to kill another innocent person.
Abortion is an elective surgery. I’ve never seen anyone request open heart.
It goes back to something that is done to save the person’s life. Is the abortion going to be done to save the mother’s life? If so, then I’d have to agree with it.
Do you want to keep other elective surgeries rare TP?
Example: Gastric bypass is elective for morbidly obese people. Will you ever see it picketed? I doubt it. Most people do this to have a better quality of life.

I notice TP doesn’t want to answer my question. TP, isn’t it paternalistic for you to assume that you know what other people want? Some people Choose to have plastic surgery rather than submiting to a strenuous diet and exercise regime. Some woman choose to have an abortion rather than abstaining or using effective birth control. Some woman use abortion as a form of birth control.
Nobody wants to have surgery? I don’t blame them, but what have 1.3 million women done every year to prevent those surgeries? Some women MUST like surgery. They use abortion as their chosen method of birth control.

A woman I know had 7 abortions. She did nothing after the first one to prevent others. She’s sterile now. She is lucky enough to have 1 living child. She didn’t even make her guys use condoms.

AB Laura, she almost drank herself to death. That’s no lie!! I’m sure it was d/t self loathing. She was in ICU with severe ascites and ETOH poisoning. She remained in the hospital for a month. She also sought treatment for severe depression. She did stop drinking for about 2 years, but I hear that she’s hitting the bottle hard again. This all happened after her hysterectomy. Doctors told her that her uterus was severely damaged from the excessive amount of abortions.
Another strange twist. She told me “I wanted more kids.”
This was a woman who ranted “My Choice.” every chance she got. I once told her that I was against abortion. You can imagine the scathing backlash I received from her forked tongue. Her “choices” are over, but not by her own “choice.”

Yep, she made stupid choices. She will have to suffer the consequences of them. I tried to be her friend, but she was always too self centered for friendship. She always had to have a man in her bed. That’s all that mattered to her.

I know. You want to help these women to keep them from self destructing, but abortion is a right in this country, so it’s not that cut and dry. Part of me feels very sorry for her, but part of me views her as a self absorbed, selfish, B.
I doubt she was screaming at these guys to “pull out!!” She just spread em, and let them go to town.

AB, thanks. I don’t really know how to clean it up. Abortion is sickening, and some of these women are despicable. Some will lay down with anything due to an overwhelming sex drive. Ha, and some women bi*ch about guys being horn dogs.
I’m not willing to say that every post abortive woman is an innocent victim. I am excluding cases of rape and incest.

AB, I honestly don’t believe that this woman ever intended to continue any pregnancies resulting from her sexcapades. I guess it could be considered premeditated murder.
I know this girl who had sex with 87 guys, and her uterus became radioactive, and then she gave birth to Mothra, and Tokyo was destroyed, and then she had to drive all her boyfriends around on a bus that had to keep going really fast or it was gonna blow up.

It’s just extremely depressing to watch the moral decay of our country. We are becoming a society where little is scared anymore, and everything is disposable…including babies.
Mike, without arguing some obvious things, I’d say that in the next couple decades you’re going to see some really pessimistic sentiment, not based upon legal abortion, but upon a declining standard of living for most Americans and relatively “hard times,” economically.
Believe me, that’s what brings out the “sky is falling mentality.”
