Obama: worst or weak on abortion?
There are polar opposite arguments ongoing in liberal and conservative camps regarding Barack Obama’s position on abortion.
It’s wild, and I can’t quite believe these debates are occurring simultaneously.
As I’ve documented (here and here), our side is wondering whether Obama is the most pro-abortion senator and presidential candidate ever.
Meanwhile, the other side, driven by Hillary Clinton, is arguing whether he’s weak on abortion. On Monday Clinton issued a press release again targeting Obama’s “present” votes as state senator….
As a State Senator, Barack Obama voted ‘present’ on seven abortion bills, including a ban on ‘partial birth abortion,’ two parental notification laws and three ‘born alive’ bills. In each case, the right vote was clear, but Sen. Obama chose political cover over standing and fighting for his convictions.
“When we needed someone to take a stand, Sen. Obama took a pass,” said [IL NOW prez Bonnie] Grabenhofer. “He wasn’t there for us then and we don’t expect him to be now.”
Does Grabenhofer’s name sound familiar? She is the Aurora resident who along with IL NOW vp and roommate Gay Bruhn were the frequent sole supporters of Aurora Planned Parenthood.
Speaking of, remember Steve Trombley, the infamous CEO of Chicago PP behind the Aurora PP skulduggery? How coincidental that he’s on the opposite side.
According to several sources, Obama held a conference call Monday right after Clinton issued her press release. According to the Huffington Post, Trombley was on the call as an Obama defender:
… Trombley defended Obama, saying the “present” votes were part of a strategy devised by his group to protect vulnerable Democrats, and that Obama was always prepared to vote against the anti-abortion rights bills.
“We feel an obligation to defend Barack’s record related to abortion issues in Illinois,” Trumbley said. “Barack Obama has a 100 percent voting record from Planned Parenthood.”
As I said, this is all wild. But if Obama is picked as the Democrat candidate for president, our side will still be saying he’s the most pro-abortion candidate ever, but he will at that time be trying to moderate his position to appeal to moderates.
His scuffles now with Clinton over who is the pro-abort candidate of choice will come back to bite him.

Wow, Steve Trombley just keeps popping up, doesn’t he?
While Obama and Clinton are tripping over each other’s laces, Huckabee might just win the race.
Obama is just defending himself from Clinton’s attacks. Even Rush Limbaugh has expressed this sentiment. I realize he is more anti-Hillary than pro-Obama, but I heard his show yesterday, and he agreed that Clinton’s characterizations of Obama were just him defending himself against her attacks.
But interesting dynamic!! I will see how this plays out.
Also, Democrats for Life hasn’t yet endorsed a candidate, I am interested in seeing who they pick when they do.
They had a document about the ones on life issues, Biden seems more in the middle than all of them. It sorta sucks that he is pretty unelectable. He has some good ideas, but on others he is unrealistic.
PiP, I agree, it will be interesting to see who Democrats for Life endorses.
obama is worse when it comes to abortion he claims to be pro life to get the black church vote,but when it comes times for his vote he votes Just the opposite he is like the Anti christ when it comes to the obama vote
the democrat polls shows obama at 30 percent with Hillary at 39 percent for the democrat side
with john edwards coming in a good third though do to the comment about race from hillary obama could come out ahead with the black vote which we are really worried about mccain is not the best person to help cross party lines

Lansing, MI (LifeNews.com) — Mitt Romney finally won the big primary election he needed to remain one of the top contenders for the Republican nomination for president. He came way with 39 percent of the vote in the industrial state and exit polling data showed he connected with voters there who are concerned about economic issues. MAN TO BEAT: MCCAIN’S CROSS-PARTY APPEAL

We have to see just what is happening with Cross party support for McCain.
Moveon.org and other Liberal Org’s have their members voting for McCain as they see the Dem Choice as being Clinton or Obama, and they have taken the stance they do not care which one.
So important is this election that Far left liberals will set up the election from McCain and then vote Democrat in November.
If we do not win this election with a Candidate that will send back all the illegal’s we will end up with another 150 million Registered Democrats, yes as in past bills, Democrats put in the bills that these applying for Citizenship will have to meet certain obligations, and one is, Register to Vote and show voting receipts fort the 5 years they await citizenship. That means the 20 million illegals, then their entire family members from siblings to Great Great Great aunts and Uncles, 3rd 4th and 5th cousins will be allowed to come to America, Ted Kennedy has proven this with 7 bills over the past 12 years of allowing more and more relatives to come.

John McCain is starting to look like the candidate to beat for the GOP nomination. Not long ago, he was dismissed, unable to compete with Rudy Giuliani’s star power. But with New Hampshire, the tortoise has overtaken the hare.
If McCain wins Michigan on Tuesday (as he did in 2000), Rudy may find himself so far behind before he starts to run that he can never catch up.

His battle against big tobacco, efforts to address global warming, opposition to torture during interrogations and fight to reform corporate governance and to protect investors and pensioners appeal to voters of all stripes.
His issues cut across party and ideological lines, for an attraction far broader than the single notes sung by the evangelical Mike Huckabee and the anti-terror Giuliani. His heroism is apparent and his independence from special interests notable. He’s pro-life and suitably conservative on social issues, so he attracts conservatives as well as moderates. And his credentials on terrorism and other national-security issues are outstanding.
He’s got two main obstacles to overcome: his support for amnesty for illegal immigrants and his age.
* McCain denies that he backed amnesty (citing the fines that illegals would’ve had to pay to regularize their status under his bill), but conservatives have pinned the label on him so indelibly that it’s unlikely to come off no matter how hard he scrubs.
Ultimately, though, he can likely transcend the nativist vote and appeal to the broad spectrum of Republicans. Polls indicate that nobody really believes it is feasible to deport 11 million people back to their home nations. If we can’t do that, they’ll linger on our streets and in our fields forever, as illegal tomorrow as they are today, unless we move to meet them halfway.
The Pat Buchanans of the world will split their votes between Mitt Romney and Huckabee, so this negative is not likely to prove any more lethal in Michigan, New York or California than it was in New Hampshire.
* His age is a bigger problem. The New Hampshire and Iowa contests were animated by record turnouts. One Granite State voter in five had never voted before in a primary. (Obama carried them by 20 points.) An incredible 11 percent of voters were under 24. (Obama won them, 3 to 1.) With young people storming the polls, a 71-year-old candidate labors under a huge handicap.
But consider his competition: Giuliani, who draws from the same well, has squandered his early lead in what can only be described as a determined passivity. Fred Thompson is also catatonic.
And each primary provides more proof of how how unattractive voters find Romney. Despite massive spending and a field organization with all the efficiency and busy-tailed enthusiasm of a good car-rental company, he still can’t sell because people don’t like him. His vast checkbook will let him linger on past Michigan, but he loses traction with each balloting.
Huckabee has yet to show an ability to transcend social-conservative issues. His pledge to repeal the IRS and instead adopt a fair tax (i.e., a national sales tax) might help him “go secular,” but until he achieves that, he’s just a regional candidate – a good vice president pick, not top-tier material.
For the general election, McCain is unique among the GOP field because he can attract centrist votes. He’s every Democrat’s and independent’s favorite Republican. He doesn’t have Rudy’s hard edges or family problems, and he knows how to push a lot of populist hot buttons, from CEO pay to credit-card overcharges to hedge-fund tax shelters to subprime chicanery.
Being able to win doesn’t mean he will win. But McCain is clearly back.

if Rudy or fred wins you will have a much harder time with defeat Social Issues.

I have been pondering the democratic primaries, and it seems like DFL will have a pretty tough decision. I mean, with biden out, the top 3 are pretty much pro-choice. How will they weigh this? I hope they come to a decision soon.
Obama’s present votes were not in any sense pro-life votes. They were votes to provide cover for pro-choice democrats in pro-life districts. They were cynical votes (let’s confuse the voters!) to hide the true intent of those dems from more conservative districts. Hillary’s off on this one and Obama is right. He is the most pro-abortion candidate for presidency, perhaps ever.
