If you’ll remember, Obama has paraded his daughters around more than once. I can recall just last week the famous “goodnight daddy” wish from his daughter. And he too says, “my family is off-limits.”
Anyway, that aside, this was one of the best parts of the night. Completely unscripted, and adorable!
Cute kids. Too bad their mother would rather use them as political props than actually raise them or spend time with them.

I hope that Obama got a good long looke at Baby Trig and realize that the child he failed to defend in Illinois was not going to be incinerated without a fight.

This little child is providentially the center of what this election is all about. This little gift from God was shown to be powerful in his vulnerability as he was so lovingly passed from sister to Cindy to father to sister to littlest sister with sweet peace and acceptance. Kisses and caresses were drawn from anyone nearby. What a powerful impression of possible unity through innocence. And the other side would have him and his human dignity thrown into a garbage bin.
And what certain people here are demanding is a combination of restrictions against only particular persons within our free society…or…some kind of super control of open cameras!! Hmmm…that sounds like commie or Marxist societies. True colors!

Two things,
First, the networks controlled the shots during the speech, not the Republican party. The camera caught this scene because producers told the cameramen to focus on the little girl holding the baby. What, the kids aren’t supposed to attend their mother’s most important speech?
Second, Todd Palin has taken leaves of absence to help take care of the kids (and to avoid conflicts of interest during oil negotiations). Sarah Palin credits him with completing a lot of the housework. Why aren’t feminists praising a woman who found a husband who pulls his weight around the house?

Oh, lay off the “How DARE she allow her children to be out in public where somebody might notice them!” The kids looked right at home at Mom’s Big Moment. Palin was, when you get right down to it, bringing her kids to work with her AND bringing them to a family Big Moment at the same time. What’s wrong with either of these?
I brought my kids to work with me whenever I could so they’d get a feel for what the working world was really like. I bet the kids have been out aboard fishing boats on occasion, weather permitting.
Most parents, if they get an award or have some other big public moment, bring their kids.
Or maybe it’s only us small-town hicks who do that. Or are we only supposed to bring them on “Bring Your Daughter to Work Day”? Is it evil to bring your kid to work if you didn’t get an email from NOW telling you to do so?
Piper was there, and she was too cute for words, and some smart camaraman spotted it and some smart editor cut to it.
It’s not like Governor Palin stopped her speech and said, “Check out little Piper! She’s just too adorable!”
Maybe they should have tried to catcher Piper picking her nose. That would have made the Dems happy.

John Kennedy had a small daughter and a pregnant wife who delivered 16 days after he was elected president. A very pregnant Mrs.Kennedy campaigned with her husband.
Robert Kennedy had 10 kids and a pregnant wife who was also campaigning with him.
And yes Obama, with two small daughters. Mrs.Obama worked outside the home as well.

Biden’s first wife was killed along with one of his children right before his first term. He took the oath at the children’s bedside.
No one asked him if he should back out of the office because his children were injured and traumatized. Why didn’t he put his children first?

Sarah is not someone I would want for a neighbor or for a gov., nor for a president, or even a vice president, but seriously, in that moment – her kid should be complimented on caring for her little brother, if anything is said about her at all. Posting this video is just irresponsable – making something out a less-than moment.
This is news only in the “aww aren’t kids cute ” vein. Palin already has one kid gone off the deep end, why exacerbate the stress put upon the other kids\props? How often have we seen Obama’s kids trotted out?. All this to show that Palin really is a decent mother. If you’ve got a family in crisis, perhaps the decent thing to do for both parents is to spend time with their kids.

My wife was 17 when we got married, and had our first child. Were doing great. In fact, of all the divorces and failed marriages Ive seen personally, not one has been between teenagers. This does not conclude anything other than my ultimate point that teenage pregnancy does not necessarily denote a troubled teen. Obviously she made a mistake, but she is making the right choice now to take responsiblity. I dont see why Palin has to stay at home and babysit her along with the father.
Also, you paint DS children as impossible to raise. It is the liberals that would like for people to believe that DS children are not worth living and that they have no quality of life. They are children with special needs…not the need for both parents to stay home and wring their hands in horror. They love their child, but they also have lives and are going to take care of him to a greater than sufficient degree.

From what I understand, the photos in question were rather tame. There’s nothing indecent in nudity, in and of itself. The scandal surrounding the photos stemmed from the fact that they are from an extramarital affair. You’re not against DAVID or THE BIRTH OF VENUS, are you?

I well understand you were not taking a shot at Edwards, I just felt it was a good point and an incredible double standard.
No the photos were not all that tame. I certainly have no issue with nudity, so long as it is tasteful and appropriate. I don’t feel crude gynecological shots of a woman’s private parts fit that category, if you catch my drift. I also don’t think you should be stupid enough to have your picture taken by your extramarital lover while romping with him!

Oliver, your math is certainly correct. I also visualized it like the above – the magenta part is 1/4 of the larger square slanting down to the right, and it’d obviously have an area of 25, thus the green & magenta would equal 12.5

I know the artwork isn’t perfect, but if we say that the radius of the circle is 1, then half the length of the side of the larger triangle will be the square root of 3, since the smaller inset right triangle exists as drawn.
There are six such right triangles in the larger equilateral triangle, so the area of the equilateral triangle is 5.19615
The area of the circle is of course 3.14159…
Thus, the area of the equilateral triangle outside the circle is roughly 2.05456.

Well, Mary, I haven’t seen the Dr. Laura pix you speak of, but I don’t think any PART of the body is necessarily indecent. (DAVID, after all, has full-frontal nudity, right?) But we probably agree that the human body has become so oversexualized that even a woman nursing a child is seen as “weird,” and I don’t even mean by religious conservatives, but rather by those who see women’s breasts as toys, or as props to help sell pickup trucks. However, if you extend your line from the angle to the middle of the triangle you will realize that a straight line through the circle is in fact the heighth of the triangle…which of course is a bisector in an equilateral ;)

What makes you so certain that Bristol and Levi can’t support their child? I had my first baby at 17, and got pregnant before our wedding. The only difference between me and Bristol was that I had already graduated highschool, as had my husband. But, as the daughter of a politician, Bristol can easily get a tutor to finish her highschool requirements, so that won’t me much of a problem. My husband and I have always supported ourselves, and have been able to continue with school and lead productive, contributive lives.
As for the “budget cuts for the poor” jab. How do you know that Alaska needed 5 million for their homeless teen program. I am no expert on the Alaskan homeless, but I would venture to guess that it is less of a problem in Alaska than it would be in New York. Perhaps the programs funding was funneled into another program that met a greater need in her state. You don’t know, yet pretend that OMG GOV PALIN IS EVIL because SHE HATES PREGNANT TEENS. Please.

Yes, women are certainly visual to some extent.
Since I am not blind or dead I definitely enjoy male eye candy and will feast my eyes when I see an attractive man.
What I find interesting is people who just seem to have a charisma. They may or may not be exceptionally attractive, maybe its just some kind of sensual aura.
I know a man who’s had women slip him their phone numbers, flash him, break into his apt. bedroom(when he was single) and walk up to him at professional meetings and slip him their room number. He definitely has an aura of some kind.
I’ve also seen women who will attract every man in the place when they enter a room and have men fall in love with them right and left.

It’s the Golden Rule. I demand to be treated with respect and not have anyone wrongly “handle” me without my permission, and so I try to do the same for others. When I’m walking through a men’s locker room (remember, folks: I’m a guy) because I’m out covering some sports event or another, I keep my head facing the floor. It’s quite possible that the showering/changing d00ds in there don’t care in the least, but I err on the side of caution and try to show the courtesy that I would want to receive.

Lauren, I dsagree – both the triangle and the circle share the same centerpoints, so it’s gotta be like I said. A line perpendicular to the bottom of the equilateral triangle goes to the center of the circle, and it has to be perpendicular in the first place for the smaller right triangle to work. You could extend the line to the other side of the equilateral triangle, and even draw the other three such lines, but no need if one understands what’s going on, and it’d just clutter up the drawing IMO.

I don’t know about “more complicated than necessary.” I did it both ways, and in fact first did it via the math with the square root of 2, etc., (and it really made me wonder what in the heck HisMan was assuming, there), but in thinking about it the larger “projected” square popped into my mind, and it’s like, “the bigger square would obviously be 5 x 5 or 25, and thus the original half of the first square is a quarter of that, or 6.25, and then the area of the original square is 12.5.” In visualizing it geometrically, that chain-of-thoughts happens very fast.
It is not about controlling kids so they don’t have sex. It is about making sure that they know the goals and values of our family – love for eachother, getting a good education, stability, hard-work and getting a good job. My brother and I both kept our eyes on the prize. it’s not that hard. Its called parental care, having a good loving and trusting relationship with your kids. If you educate them that kids are not supposed to have kids…then they will steer awat from those situations. If you don’t talk about sex and consequences and show them how much their life might change if they had a kid too early then they won’t think about it.
In my mind, the best sex education is a job at McDonalds. Really. Say to them ” This is good when you’re 16, but you will need more than 200 a month to live on if you want to have a kid.” It’s not magic or force. Its called having a tradition of education and parental leadership within the family that gets passed down like an heirloom.

Yeahhhhh, I’m sure that’s what the kids are thinking about when they’re having sex. No…hello, that’s why we have abortion, because people don’t think about the consequences. I’m not trying to say that you’re wrong, I’m just trying to say that not EVERY decision a child makes that is wrong is the direct result of bad parenting. You can talk until you’re blue in the face, but you can’t be there 24/7 and all you can hope is that your kids take your advice/direction. Some kids are more agreeable in nature in that they will always listen to their parents, some are more rebellious, it’s just the way it goes. It’s called life, welcome to it.
Getting pregnant at 17 isn’t the worst thing to happen to a teenager either. Sure, it will completely change the course of her life, but maybe that’s a good thing. It sure as hell was for me and I got preggo at 19. A girl in one of my classes who is the same age as me(23) has a 9 year old. That’s right, you did the math, that means she had her daughter when she was 14, and she probably got preggo at 13. And yet, here she is going to school making something of herself. It’s not a death sentence and certainly not something equatable to one’s parents doing a horrible job. Maybe if she went out and built some bombs and blew up her school and her parents had NO IDEA I would be saying something different. But come on, she’s becoming a mom. On the grand scale here, I don’t really see it as that terrible of a thing. But I’m pro-life so that’s to be expected.

Intellectual Inconsistency
I was once charged with trespass for refusing to move from the doorway of a building where pre-natal humans were being killed. In the subsequent trial I was interviewing perspective jurors. They all answered questions under oath, understanding that lying would be perjury, a crime. I read the part of the 14th amenndment to the U.S. Constitution which states: ‘nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
I asked each perspective juror which of these three rights was pre-eminent, life, liberty, or property. Each one of them said liberty was the most important. I then asked them how you could possibly enjoy liberty if you had been denied life. They all said you could not. I then said, ‘If that is true, then you would have to say the right to life trumps all others, would you not?’ Each one of them, in turn, agreed. Life is numero uno/number one.
Now here is the interesting part. I could only interview one juror at a time. The remainder of the jury pool was present and heard me ask all the previous persons the same questions. But when it came their turn, each one of them answered the same way. Initially, liberty was the most important right, but when asked how you could enjoy liberty without life, logic dictated that the right to life is our most valuable right.
All the perspective jurors answered the questions honestly. But initially they were all honestly wrong. When required to exercise logic they had to acknowledge the truth: Without life every other right is meaningless.
