Breaking news: Obama takes 1st step to stop enforcing healthcare provider conscience protections
This is absurd. Three federal laws have been on the books for decades protecting healthcare providers’ right of conscience.
All President Bush did was enact enforcement measures. Read the 2nd paragraph below. In other words, protecting the conscience of heathcare workers not to abort, etc., “limits access to patient care.” What else can the next step be but to remove protections?
The Proposed Rule to rescind the Conscience Regulations was published today in the Federal Register, the 1st step to overturning the Rule…
The Department is proposing to rescind in its entirety the final rule entitled “Ensuring That Department of Health and Human Services Funds Do Not Support Coercive or Discriminatory Policies or Practices in Violation of Federal Law,” published in the Federal Register on December 19, 2008….
Commenters asserted that the rule would limit access to patient care and raised concerns that individuals could be denied access to services, with effects felt disproportionately by those in rural areas or otherwise underserved. The Department believes that the comments on the August 2008 proposed rule raised a number of questions that warrant further careful consideration. IIt is important that the Department have the opportunity to review this regulation to ensure its consistency with current Administration policy.
Accordingly, we believe it would benefit the Department to review this rule, accept further comments, and reevaluate the necessity for regulations implementing the statutory requirements. Thus, the Department is proposing to rescind the December 19, 2008 final rule, and we are soliciting public comment to aid our consideration of the many complex questions surrounding the issue and the need for regulation in this area.

Good riddance!
As you said, health care providers are already protected from having to do abortions and sterilizations, and if anyone tries to force them, they can just lawyer up and sue like anyone else.
The Bush conscience rule was only meant to rob Planned Parenthood of funding and provide anti-choicers a way to obstruct women’s access to birth control, including rape victims. You ought to be ashamed.
The actions on Obama’s part underscores the contention that pro-lifers had all along, namely that regards abortion he is an extremist. Even as our economy is tanking and spending is soaring out of sight (his proposed budget has a deficit four times greater than did any of Bush’s budgets), Obama will still find time to press forward with his radical pro-abortion agenda. It is not a surprise, but nonetheless it is sad.
All is not lost however, as the comment period is just beginning. We will see how the process works, and whether the comments carry any weight.
I think this is confirmation that the ‘pro-lifers’ who voted for Obama are indeed frauds…
Hey Jill,
Where’s the PLACE to make a comment?
This is what I don’t want to see.
Anti-choicers – that’s an interesting turn of phrase – so a WOMAN who CHOOSES to have her child has not chosen to do that!
What else can the next step be but to remove protections?
He doesn’t have to remove them. When they can’t be enforced, they become moot anyway, don’t they?
Be careful what you wish for, reality. When you signal to the government that you applaud selective protection of rights, you’ve put your own rights up for grabs too.
Don’t expect anyone with a reprobate mind to require anyone else to follow their conscience.
This is a demonically led and inspired administration which is leading this country towards its destruction.
Christians…..CHURCH….you’d better speak up before you lose your rights to assemble in this country!!!
As for me…I will die before anyone takes away my right to worship or do anything else based on conscience.

Can you give some examples or statistics that show how women were denied access to birth control?
Also, is there such a serious shortage of pharamacies in this country that if a woman is denied birth control in one she can’t simply go to another? It would seem an easy matter of just checking the yellow pages and calling ahead.
I like to give this example. A Hindu grocer, because of his religious convictions, refuses to sell meat in his store. Let’s say this causes great inconvenience to elderly, disabled and low income people in the community who must travel elsewhere to buy their meat. Should this grocer be denied his right to his religious convictions and be forced to sell meat? What right does he have to force his religious convictions on others and cause them inconvenience as a result?

Jasper, I read that. It was good. All his stuff on Obama these days is great.
Jasper and Jill,
The question is, will all this matter to Americans caught up in a Messianic trance.
Look at some of history’s great mass murderers such as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao and you will see people who idolized them then, and continue to idolize them now.
The German people put Hitler into power in the first place and continued to idolize him despite his continuing repression.
FDR did nothing to end the Depression, but he won a third term.
The Democrats founded the Klan, established segregation, and opposed civil and voting rights.
Black Americans are among their most devoted followers.
I don’t know what to expect.
I don’t know what to expect.
Mary, I think it’s safe to anticipate more manufactured crisis. Take a look at the Cloward-Piven Strategy of Orchestrated Crisis section of this article.
I think it gives a lot of clues about O’s current actions and where he wants to take us in the future.
Fed Up,
Very interesting, thank you.
This tactic is as old as the human race. “Provocations” have been concocted to start wars, groups of people demonized to “justify” repression and even genocide.
Its been argued that the 1964 “Gulf of Tonkin incident”, which was used to justify giving unfettered power to Lyndon Johnson to wage war in Vietnam, may have well been one such concocted “provocation”.
Only two senators opposed the resulting Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which gave Johnson authorization to wage war in Vietnam without a formal declaration of war by congress.
There is a picture of one of these opposing senators, I believe it was Wayne Morse, confronting Johnson and warning him he will regret the day this resolution was passed. The Vietnam War would lead to the downfall of the Johnson presidency.
After the passage of the resolution Senator Morse was asked how he felt being the minority opposition to his bill. His reply was that being in the minority does not make one wrong.

Wow!
What a radical idea, respecting someone else’s conscience.
Who would have imagined some one as stupid and/or as evil as George Bush could ever have dreamed up as complex a concept as that?
Realitiy, you would have to posess a ‘conscience’ in order to respect someone elses decision to follow the dictates of their own conscience when it does not comport with ‘your’ understanding of ‘right and wrong’.
PBHO’s actions here are not about ‘individual freedom’ but about universal acceptance and mandated compliance with his relativistic worldview.
We are still free men and women.

Any government that can force any medical care provider to perform abortions, against THEIR will, can also force any woman to HAVE an abortion, against HER will,..which is exactly wher this DEMONIC abortion agenda is heading,…

An excellent point. How often are women pressured into abortion by boyfriends, husbands, and parents as it is?
