Good grief. No wonder Mother Angelica stuck it to him.
Just one question for Cardinal Mahoney can anyone be more voiceless, more powerless, more needy or be more in need of championing that the innocent, unborn, aborted babies that Sen. Kennedy decided were worthy to be aborted on the altar of convenience and a “woman’s right to choose”. For Christ sake, the man voted not once but twice against the ban on PBAs.
He also voted against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (also called Laci and Connor’s Law)
Liz, I decided not to watch the news today because I could not stand to hear anymore of the glowing eulogies of this man. His record speaks for itself.

Mahony is so out of it.
It causes scandal and confusion in the minds of non-Catholics when pro-abortion Catholic politicians are honored or eulogized. We owe it to Christ to be the champions of Truth in the world.
Thanks for your comments here. Jacki as a non-Catholic I have been confused about this man being honored by the Catholic Church leadership like Cardinal Mahoney. I do not mean to be disrespectful in any way but find it hard to understand. I do understand why pro-aborts like PP, NARAL, Obama and company honor him. When I look at the whole picture, his pro-death record and his immoral lifestyle which he has never apologized or even expressed remorse for to my knowledge it is so tragic. I am praying for his family.

Many within the Catholic church have fallen from grace, as Cardinal Mahoney clearly demonstrates, and with our priests, bishops and cardinals (albeit a small subsect of them) preaching a gospel of deceit, it is no wonder that we live in a world of pick-and-choose Catholics.
We must get back to Rome. It is my prayer that Pope Benedict XVI’s strong moral stance will continue to impact the Church for the better.

Does being catholic and dead make every despicable act you ever did sink out of sight in the sea of forgetfullness or is some visible, measureable, fruit of repentance required first?
I do recall reading something in the ‘book’ about broods of vipers seeking refuge from the consequences of their misdeeds and being told they must first demonstrate some sort of change not just of heart, but behavior, that is commensurate with an acknowledgement of cupability for the wicked things you have done.
Can mr. mahoney give one example where Edward Kennedy ever publicly acknowledged his bad acts and not only asked forgiveness, but also offerred to make amends to the ones whom he had wronged?
I hope that Ted Kennedy at least had a private act of contrition with Jesus, before he breathed his last breath.

I do not mean to bash catholics or catholicism in my preceding comments. I am however questioning the ‘wisdom’ of Cardinal Mahoney’s statement.
Pehaps, taken in context with the the unpublished comments preceding and following the excerpt from Mahoneys public statement might provide some additional clarification that would justify the spiritual blindness and deafness that Mahoney is exhibiting.
This no different than the president of Notre Dame choosing to ignore, overlook, disregard B.O.’s public record in the Illinois Senate, the U.S. Senate and as POTUS.
There has to be some level of public misbehavior that disqualies a person from being publicy honored by the Catholic hierarchy.
I would ask the same question if it were the leader of any other christian denomination that made a willful, knowing, choice to honor men who have behaved dishonorably throughout their entire career in public office.
In cases like these deafening silence is in order.

As a former Catholic, who yet still has respect for the Catholic church, I do not mean to bash the Church or the parishoners. However, the problem as I see it is that the Catholic Church does not encourage the development of a personal faith & trust in Jesus Christ. (I know this doesn’t apply to ALL Catholic churches or ALL Catholic pastors, this is a generalization based on my experience and those of many former Catholics-turned-born-again believers.) The Church teaches doctrine and faith in the Church/Pope in a very impersonal way. The only way people can overcome their sins and live in a righteous way is by falling in LOVE with Jesus and doing what HE says. Loyalty to a human or an institution will never inspire righteousness.
Again, no offense to the Catholics among us. They are the largest, by far, group among the pro-life movement and for that I LOVE them!
“Honoring” Ted Kennedy, considering his ‘track record’, is the same as they’ve been doing (unfortunately)with George Tiller. Guess people choose to overlook a lot of stuff when you’re dead?

I’m not Catholic, and sometimes wonder what’s going on with the Catholic church. First the fiasco at Notre Dame, and now the bishops saying things like this. The pro-life movement looks to the Catholic Church for leadership, but it seems like the Catholic Church is watering down its pro-life message, which is not a good thing . . .

It’s not that it’s just begun to get this way-it’s that we’re just beginning to see it. But we faithful Catholics are still out here, and still looking to Rome.
I have been praying for unity within the Catholic Church, but I believe it may be in God’s plan that we might divide. We’ll see.
Please pray for our church, particularly for our church leaders. Pray for strength and wisdom for Catholics everywhere. We are in a time of need.
But don’t forget, we have Fr. Frank Pavone, and other wonderfully pro-life priests! Here in my archdiocese (an extremely liberal area, too), we have a wonderfully steadfast Archbishop.
Pray that those priests who are lost might find Truth, and that those priests who are faithful might speak out. We need their strength and leadership!

As a fellow devout Catholic I take great joy in knowing many of great priest, like Fr. Mike Krelovich,that fight for LIFE and the true teachings of the Church.
Pope Benedict is making changes here in the west and many of new seminarians are coming out on fire for Jesus. We will need them for the coming battles to defend LIFE in the very near future.
