Quote of the Day 11-6-09
Stupak’s amendment strikes this language and clearly forbids the use of federal monies to support abortion or abortion coverage. Ellsworth’s plays a shell game, a 3-card Monty that hides the subsidies through misdirection.
Pelosi allowed Ellsworth a vote because Ellsworth’s amendment doesn’t impact the bill’s ability to fund abortion coverage — but gives Pelosi enough political cover to strip away a few nominally pro-life Democrats to vote for her bill.

I love the US Conference of Catholic Bishops take on the Ellworth ploy. They call it a “money-laundering scheme”.
What an deadly but accurate depiction.
I don’t understand why Nancy Pelosi is so pushy when it comes to abortion. I mean, it’s not as if it has an impact on her PERSONALLY…she’s past the age that she would have to worry about an ‘unintended pregnancy’.
It’s one thing to say that you believe in a woman’s right to choose to kill her own child but quite another to take away another person’s right to NOT pay for it.
Amen to these bishops! Money is fungible! You assign the money to purpose B, and they will just shift the money they had for B over to purpose A. Like they said, just a shell game! NO MONEY should be given to Planned Barrenhood, and we should not tolerate any Republican or Democrat who does so.
Exactly, Carla. The pro-aborts are so for ‘choice’, well..what about OUR ‘choice’ NOT to pay for abortion?
This bill is not about healthcare, taking care of the poor and helping uninsured Americans it is about power, control, dismantling 1/6th of the US economy, the power of life and death over American citizens, transforming America into socialism and ABORTION ON DEMAND. I know the Stupak-Pitts amendment passed I am still very leery that they will try to bring abortion into the final bill because of all the favors the liberal Demoncrats and Obama have promised to the Dead Babies R Us crew (PP, Naral, Emily’s List, etc.). I continue to pray against this bill.
