Great point. There’s at least one thing we can agree on when we get together for that micro-brew.
Since we last debated the Incrementalism v. Personhood issue, there was an excellent piece posted here by a pro-choice writer lamenting the series of recent defeats and setbacks for the child-killing side. (Wish I had a reference for you.) They now believe they have acquired some momentum with the recent defection of Benedict Nelson to the pro-death camp and the proposed government-funded abortion provisions in the Senate version of Health Care. However, as you know, the battle is far from over.
One of her points, and what she claimed as probably the most damaging issue for the pro-death mob in recent years, was the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Now I know you don’t think the ban saved any babies lives directly, and I would probably agree. They just execute the murder a different way, right? But the diagrams and computer-simulated imagery that graphically depicted this horrific crime against the unborn was repeated day after day, night after night, for several weeks on network news. She claimed the damage to their side was incalculable. MSM just kept showing the barbaric injustice in graphic detail and there was no place they could go, no response they could offer, and public opinion toward abortion shifted, dramatically.
That is where the War will be won, in the hearts of the American people. Just like our hearts were turned against the Viet Nam War because we saw a picture of an innocent little girl naked, running down a war-torn street crying, her back burned by napalm.
The lack of success of the Pro-Life movement over the past 36 years has not been a matter of Incrementalism tactics v. Personhood tactics. Many humans are sinful and selfish and they want to have sex but they don’t want the responsibilities of caring for a child. Many are ignorant, their hearts are darkened and they believe a lie that if they kill their child early enough, it hasn’t really become their child yet.
As Father Pavone would say, “America will reject abortion when America sees abortion.” When BO was elected, his radical pro-death record and agenda was a wake-up call to many of us in the Pro-Life movement that had gotten complacent. We have been doing 2Chr 7.14 now for quite some time now and the Church is starting to awaken out of her slumber. Revival is breaking out in Kansas City, on college campuses and just this week at Rick Joyner’s Morningstar Ministries.
God is answering our prayer. I believe it may require additional waves of His correction, but the tide is turning. You need to drop your erroneous critical religious thinking, get into a good 2Chr 7.14 prayer and fasting group (I think Lou Engle was with a group out there in CO you could check out) and let God wash you with His Lovingkindness, Mercy and Forgiveness.
Then jump back into the fray with us.

PS – What I believe to be God’s side: In WWII, after Lieutenant General Courtney H. Hodges’ First Army punched a hole in the German defenses at a French town called St. Lo, Patton’s Third Army began roaring through the hole with their Sherman tanks. They began an attacking advance that moved in every direction on the compass; north, south, east, and west, all at the same time. There was no stopping them once they got started. They went east toward Le Mans, south and southwest through Laval, west toward Brest, and north toward St. Malo.
We in the Pro-Life movement need to attack in every direction, Fasting and Prayer, 40 Days for Life, Personhood, Parental Consent, Unborn Victims of Violence Act, Stupak Ammendment…
And we really need our religious leaders to stop being cowards and preach Life from the pulpits on Sundays.
I agree almost completely, Ed. All I have to add is that that picture was a lie. From Wikipedia:

Sorry if I implied it was a US airstrike because you’re right, it wasn’t. But the picture wasn’t a lie, a South Vietnamese pilot bombed his own people by mistake. What the picture did was graphically depict the horror and injustice of war.
I don’t think it would have mattered who dropped the bomb. At this stage of the war Americans were getting tired of the fighting, we weren’t making significant progress, and this picture became the proverbial “straw” for many, turning their hearts against the war.
Now we just have to get you personally introduced to the King of Kings so you can agree with the rest of my post. :)

That doesn’t even make sense. If you don’t tighten abortion restrictions, and women keep having so many abortions, where are the babies going to come from that you ‘support’ adopting?
*Yes I know there are older children waiting to be adopted-I’m just making a point*
