Lunch Break: President and Mrs. Bush welcome troops home
Note from Jill: According to WelcomeHomeAHero.com, every morning between 150-275 troops fly through the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport from Afghanistan on their way home for 14 days of R&R. WHAH.com does the big job of organizing groups to welcome our soldiers each day.
On August 11, all were surprised by President and Mrs. Bush, who joined the welcoming throng. Many of you know my daughter Daena works for the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, and staff and their families were given the opportunity to join the Bush welcoming crew.
I happened to be in Dallas at the time visiting Daena and got to go. It was a touching experience.
Following is a video of the event. I was on the same side as the camera most of the time, taking my own photos, a few of which are posted right.

THAT IS AWESOME!!! It looks like he is handing something to each soldier in his handshake. I suspect it’s one of those very special military coins senior officers give to the junior ranks.
Man if I saw GWB in person I would give him such a big hug!!
This is great of President Bush. He never did get enough credit for his genuine interest and care about people. He made mistakes while president, to be sure. All presidents have and will. But he tried to do what he thought was best, and he sure as heck really cared about the welfare of our troops. They weren’t pawns in his political chest, and their sacrifices impacted him immensely.
As a side note, he looks more rested and happier than I ever recall seeing while he was president. The life that office can suck out of someone is beyond comprehension.
He should only be allowed to welcome home all the military caskets his two pointless wars filled. Please someone tell me why all these men and women had to die and what good if any our country will get from all their deaths? Are they enough to outweigh the tears of mothers and children on both sides?
I love and support our troops no matter where they are or for what idiot’s backward reasoning they have been deployed. One of my best friends just spent the last 3 years in the Afghan Theater. He is stationed back in Germany now for a year and I cannot tell you how glad I am he is there drinking warm beer in one piece. Chris I miss ya man!
Getting back to Bush, this guy has some serious balls. To send these men and women off to fight and die for no good reason or without the equipment they needed to come home in one piece “like body and vehicle armor”. To stand there and shake the hand of the brave men and women who were lucky enough to make it back after watching their friends killed and maimed knowing he sent them out there underequipped as Iraqi IED fodder.
I am sickened by his limp wristed glad handing! If he really wanted to thank these brave souls he would start cutting them checks out of his own personal oil profits account. Who would have thought that a cheerleader would be good a standing on the sidelines and showing us all his rear end…
“To send these men and women off to fight and die for no good reason”
If there was “no good reason” to go into Afghanistan, why did only one member of Congress vote against it in 2001 after we were attacked on 9/11? Have you vented your rage against everyone who voted for use of force, or do you reserve your venom for the former president alone?
Well Fed Up,
First, you’re completely wrong on your history. We were attacked in Sept. 2001. The vote to go to war was not on Afghanistan it was on Iraq, and that was made under seriously falsified evidence that the Bush administration compiled. Congress and the UN were lied to by the Bush administration and shown fabricated intelligence to back their Pro-war agenda. Remember the WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION that never existed or my favorite the mobile chemical weapons trucks with aluminum tubes and yellow cake… Afghanistan was an afterthought and the whole purpose of going there was to capture Osama which we couldn’t do while trying to fund and supply 2 wars at the same time.
So let’s count it up shall we….
Iraq – Sadam gone, no government to provide services, no safety for residents, still no running water or power in most of the country…..
Afghanistan – Osama still on the loose and plotting, stick figure government that will crumble as soon as we leave, warlords still in place, Taliban still there and getting stronger, no running water and unregulated power available for only 3 hours a day that will blow up any electronics plugged into it.
Oh yes and LOTS OF DEAD PEOPLE in both countries on all sides…
George Bush is a criminal, who commuted crimes against the Geneva Convention which puts our intelligence and armed services in a position to take the consequences of his crimes i.e. tortured Americans. He is a coward as demonstrated by his own armed service record. He is an unintelligent party hound as demonstrated by his Yale record and trans-scripts. Worst of all he is a LIAR who lied to get elected twice on faith based issues and then did nothing to further those issues while in office. He lied to the U.N. He lied to Congress. He lied to the American people and the rest of the world. George Bush has not one shred of creditability with most of the entire world but by all means keep praising him for no reason what so ever…
HaHaHa!!! Wow Bigzz and we prolifers are labeled by you as “hate-filled, close-minded, intolerant, fetus-loving, homophobic bigots” but all that pent up Bush-hating anger, poison and vitriol you just spilled out must really make you feel good and just proves to us prolifers how brilliant, intelligent, rational, level-headed and enlightened you are. NOT! LOL!
You can be angry at me for saying it but actually hanging on to all the hatred will eat at you from the inside out. What a waste. I will indeed pray that you will get healed from the hatred from the only one that can heal the broken-hearted and set the captive free. It saddens me to see anyone including you so hate-filled.
“you’re completely wrong on your history. We were attracted in Sept. 2001. The vote to go to war was not on Afghanistan … ”
Oh really? In September, 2001, both the house and senate voted to authorize the president to use force against nations he determined planned, authorized, or committed the 9/11 attacks. Or is it part of your conspiracy theory that records have been falsified to make it appear as though there was bipartisan support for military action in Afghanistan when in fact that no vote actually took place?
Oops, last line should read “and that no vote actually took place?”
I miss you GWB!!
I am thankful to you for your service to this country and to all those who fight for the freedom to come on a blog and spew against you.
I suppose you can chalk up all the facts i just listed a hate filled spewage if it make you feel better to just ignore the facts…
Please tell me one thing GWB did for the Anti-Choice movement?
For that matter just give me a short list of things that were better after he left office than they were before he got there? I would love to hear one reason we should praise GWB?
Your hate filled spewage is your own hate-filled opinion, Biggz. You sound like a school yard bully here most of the time.
Carry on.
” if it make you feel better to just ignore the facts…”
LOL. Coming from you that’s priceless. As Carla said, carry on. I’m out of troll kibble so I’ll leave it to others to toss you a treat.
Man, I really miss him. Still a classy guy.
