Quote of the Day 8-18-10
If the American Taliban gets their way, the women will absolutely, empirically be forced to bear children. That’s what an abortion ban is for. That’s what forcibly depriving people of contraception is meant to do – make the unwilling have children they don’t want.
Wingnuts are stupid, but they’re not that stupid. They know that depriving people the means to prevent childbirth = forced childbirth.
~Amanda Marcotte, pro-abortion blogger from Pandagon, August 17.

Ms. Marcotte is ignorant and malicious and needs to be ignored. Her remarks are not worth reading or repeating. She loves the attention and the false sense of importance this gives her, as though she is truly “leading” something of value. She is pathetic and should be pitied. God have mercy on her.
It’s inaccurate because it assumes that pro-lifers don’t want women to have any control over whether they get pregnant or not. Even if some (stress on some) pro-lifers don’t approve of contraception, I don’t see anyone trying to forcibly take it away from people. Abortion is not contraception. Abortion is the destruction of a human life after conception has taken place. Even pro-choicers have to admit that what’s being aborted is a “product of conception”.
A bit off topic here..I just read a news story about an SC woman who strangled her 2 toddlers with her bare hands and strapped them to the car and dropped to car onto the lake (faking their death). She eventually confessed to the murder stating that she thought she would be “free” if she did not have these kids. The outrage about this crime is high. One of the toddlers had defensive wounds.
I started thinking about it…wow the outrage is high. People commenting that this woman is a monster for killing her own children.
But where is the outrage when women can freely kill their unborn so they can be “free” This happens every day. 3000 lives each day.
I do believe that this SC woman should be punished to the full extent of the law…
My heart breaks for those two toddlers…

1. “American Taliban”??? Uh???
2. “FORCED” to bear children? Noone’s forcing women to spread their legs!
3. “Depriving people of contraception”??? Where did that come from? Is abortion regarded as contraception these days?
4. Means to prevent childbirth are means to prevent conception, which is – CONTRACEPTION! And for those who are against contraception – natural family planning (and yes, it works, I’ve tried).
5. Preventing childbirth sounds really cruel though, it’s stopping a child from being born. Isn’t better to not conceive in the first place?
6. Noone is trying to ban contraception, just abortion.
Ignorance must be bliss in A. Marcotte’s world.
I’m against abortions and abortifacient birth control (anything that kills an already-conceived child). I’m not againtst true contraceptives (those that prevent conception to begin with).
I don’t care if someone chooses to prevent the conception of a child – that’s something that they need to decide for themselves (or in the case of Christians, to work out between themselves, their spouse, and God). I care when someone proposes killing an already-conceived child. “Wanted”/”planned” or not.
Amanda Marcotte is probably the best evidence that too many abortions (and support of abortion) can drive a person insane.
I am a prolife woman who believes contraception should be banned but I also don’t believe women should be forced to be pregnant.
There are lots of choices BEFORE getting pregnant – such as remaining chaste outside of marriage.
It’s what the majority of people, men and women use to do many years before contraception came in a little white pill. If they chose otherwise, they accepted the “consequences” – previously called a baby.
Honestly, Amanda Marcotte just gets stupider and stupider.
Chris I wish this blog had a like button for comments. :)
Anti-choicers long for those days, when unmarried sluts had their babies ripped from their arms.
Um, not to point out the obvious here, but not every unmarried woman who has had sex could be considered a “slut.” The term “slut” typically implies multiple partners.
Furthermore, many people on this board have themselves experienced unplanned pregnancies and kept their children. Some even raised them alone. Most of us know at least one mom who had a child out of wedlock. In my husband’s family, every single one of his aunts and uncles conceived children before they were married. (Of course, in those days, when you loved each other and made a baby together, you typically got married. Most of those marriages have lasted a long, long time.)
So, to claim that we want our beloved family members to have their children ripped from them (our nieces and nephews, cousins, etc) is ludicrous. Once again, Ashley, your anger is driving you to hyperbole.
Of course you want it banned. Most anti-choicers do, they just don’t admit it.
Um, no. What we want is for women to be educated TRUTHFULLY about what certain abortifacient contraceptives can/will do, to their own bodies as well as to any children they might conceive while using those products. And yes, if a contraceptive isn’t truly JUST a contraceptive but an abortifacient, we believe those things are harmful to human life. Many of us who are married have used some sort of birth control, whether it be NFP or something else that doesn’t mess with our body’s naturally functioning systems.
And I happen to fully agree with army_wife’s post, above.
Ashley, we welcome your comments on this blog. But the first “Don’t” of the Commenting Rules (above) is, “Blasphemy will not be tolerated.” That includes Christian bashing. We’ve just unpublished such a comment from you, not the first. Please refrain from Christian bashing or we’ll have to ban you.
Thanks,
Jill
Ashley – you’re in agreement about the accuracy of Amanda’s statement – and you gave an example of Leslie Unruh discussing why the “choice ” to carry would have been no longer available.
What you are not including is accuracy regarding the mother and her child : just as much as the mother is a human being – so is the child.
Choice is not about carrying something which may be dropped and picked up again – it is about the deliberate and discriminatory killing of a human being.
Please spend some time at http://www.ehd.org/
Learn, and be personally accurate, about the facts of human development. I still have hope for you – that you won’t descend to the hell poor Amanda finds herself in.
I really do feel sorry for Amanda. She is as hardened as I used to be.
It makes women like Amanda feel better to believe their myths and lies. What she knows about pro-life values would fit under my pinky nail.
Uh, well, this “anti-choicer” has used contraceptives herself, so why would I want them banned?
Please don’t tell me what I think and feel!
I must be the only pro-lifer here who loves Amanda’s comment. It’s so refreshingly honest and cogent in its own diabolical way. She has actually done something that most pro-choicers will not do, and admitted that abortion is a form of contraception, and embraces it as such.
It’s easiest to have a debate when people aren’t constantly laying down rhetorical smokescreens.
Yeah, so like Not Having sex in the first place wouldn’t even cross your minds if you don’t want children?

Which is what pro-choicers accuse US of doing(telling them what to think/feel). Oh..the irony!
I was walking down the frozen foods aisle when suddenly an American Taliban accosted me and forced me to give birth, right then and there!
A gal named Amanda Marcotte,
Thinks that guys are a terrible lot.
Her blog, known as “Pandagon,”
Might as well be called “Man – be gone!”
If you’re male, you’re welcome there – NOT!
But some men cause Amanda less strife,
such as those who clean wombs with a knife.
And of course, good John Edwards,
About him, not one bad word,
Though he beat on his sick dying wife.
Ninek, right in front of all those Birdseyes and Green Giants?
Gerard, Lol! I’m going to name him Klump O’Sells. I predict he will really really like spinach and peas.
Henrietta,
Lyrical. :)
Or you can just not have sex if you don’t want to get pregnant. Shocking, I know. Or, you know, any of the myrid of non-abortive contraceptions out there.
While I disagree with everything on Amanda’s website, I think it’s important to see what some people are thinking, saying and believing. This sort of thinking may be more common than I thought, pretty scary stuff.
“I was walking down the frozen foods aisle when suddenly an American Taliban accosted me and forced me to give birth, right then and there! ”
IN front of the Jolly Green Giant and Michelina’s? For shame!
LOL@ Gerard and angel! :D
I was walking down the frozen foods aisle when suddenly an American Taliban accosted me and forced me to give birth, right then and there!
LOL!
Ninek, that’s hilarious!
If Amanda’s never been pregnant or experienced the difficulty of making a dicision about an unplanned pregnancy , then what the heck right does she have to assume she knows what it’s like or to presume to speak on behalf of all women!?
