Quote of the Day 10-13-10
Violations would carry fines from $200 to $2,500. After 3 violations in a 2-year period, a facility could be shuttered for up to 5 days.
… The CPCs advertise on websites and public transit and some post misleading signs, foes say, bearing such messages as “Free Abortion Alternatives.”
… “They target our health care centers, setting up across the street…,” said Joan Malin, president of Planned Parenthood of NYC. “They prey upon our patients.”…
“It’s not our intention to put these centers out of business,” said Kelli Conlin, president of NARAL Pro-Choice NY. “Our intention is to simply say disclose who you are and let every woman who enters your door understand what your specific ideology is and then let the chips fall where they may.”
Under the measure, CPCs would have to post signs declaring there’s no medical staff present, disclose in their ads and websites they don’t offer abortion or birth control and ensure confidentiality.
~Frank Lombardi, reporting on openly gay NY City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s (pictured right) latest attack against pregnancy resource centers, NY Daily News, October 13

But what if they do have medical staff on hand? Our local CPC offers free prenatal checkups until the fifth month of pregnancy and then cheaply afterwards.
I want to know why they don’t work toward a law to make McDonald’s declare that they don’t serve alcohol. Hypocrites! Quinn should be ashamed of herself for fighting against pregnant women who need help.
This is basically bullying, but nothing that pro-lifers can’t handle, IMHO. The fines, shuttering, etc…. are overkill. But these would NOT be difficult laws to comply with!! Is there nothing better for New York politicians to do with their time???
Perhaps all CPC’s in the US could adopt a universal pro-life symbol which would confer the idea that “abortions are NOT performed here”. They could post a sign PROUDLY on their front door.
Along with this proposed legislation, abortuaries should be required to post a running total of # ABORTIONS PERFORMED on a sign outside their building (remember the old Mc Donalds’ signs that stated “# hamburgers served”?).
It is bullying. Ridiculous. I know a woman who runs several CPCs. She and her staff work tirelessly and selflessly for women AND their babies. I cannot believe how much energy pro-aborts spend in hating women who are actually helping women. How can they be for women’s health when they want to punish the very people who are doing the dirty work? CPCs care for women, offer counseling, they listen, they don’t bully, they don’t brainwash, they just offer women what they need to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. Pro-aborts are just…ugh, just evil. And sick. And obviously have a lot of time on their hands. (While the women at the CPCs are hard at work.)
Did anyone find Quinn’s comment in the same article “…they prey on our patients” ironic? A prey would require a predator, and a predator does one thing–kill its prey. Her tragic unwillingness to realize the abortion clinics she’s so zealous about protecting, are the ones preying (and killing) women (esp in NYC) and the beautiful lives they carry.
That’s what I don’t understand. Abortion is all they care about. That’s it. Why would they care if a pregnancy center helps women care for the babies they don’t want to abort? The idea that CPCs are somehow brainwashing women into NOT aborting is RIDICULOUS. That is NOT what goes on there. And the fact that pro-aborts are so ANGRY that these women are NOT aborting their babies says more about them than the “creepy” CPCs. I cannot understand the pro-abort mind; I used to be pro-choice, but I was never this angry. I cannot understand them anymore. They have lost control. They are full of hatred.
Why are pro-aborts so anti-feminist that having babies ANGERS them? They mights as well tell the babies whose mothers chose life: “We think you should be dead.”
What do people think “abortion alternative” means?
Honestly, they’re trying to shut us down and if you asked them point blank they’d probably deny it, but in this case, “actions speak louder than words”.
Janet wrote: Along with this proposed legislation, abortuaries should be required to post a running total of # ABORTIONS PERFORMED on a sign outside their building (remember the old Mc Donalds’ signs that stated “# hamburgers served”?).
And I second that with a hearty YES!!
..they should also add signs that says:
”No, we don’t do ultrasounds cuz you might change your mind ”
“If there are complications to your abortion got to the ER cuz we can’t help you here”
“We’re in the business of abortion..what part of “business” don’t you understand?”
Has Christine Quinn ever stopped to think about what will happen if they ever develop a prenatal test for homosexuality?
The criminal abortionists will ruthlessly exterminate unborn gay children and virtually wipe out that community, as they have already done to a great extent with Down’s Syndrome children.
The gays will then bitterly regret the day they ever made an alliance with that evil movement.
Considering they’ve never found any DNA evidence for homosexuality, I’m doubting that will happen. http://www.narth.com/docs/nothardwired.html
And frankly, exterminating someone for having any genetic disease, defect, or predisposition, is wrong.
PP should have to post signs declaring their ideology too.
“We are vehemently Pro-abortion. Abortion is our cash-cow. We are here to SELL abortions. We are not here to help you or offer alternatives to paying us for abortions.”
And anyone who speaks English as a first language should know what “Alternative” means. I think that very clearly states that it is not abortion itself that is being offered.
Duh.
They want to shut down CPC’s to remove access to alternatives to abortion. They don’t like us cutting in on their bottom line. The poor women walking into those death-mills already think they have no other choice, PP just wants to make certain of it!
What happened to my comment? Mine was the first one this morning.hmmm..
Pamela, your comment got lost in a shuffle amid Quotes of the Day which were similar and posted by two different people. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a way to move yours over to this new post. :( I’m sorry!! Please post again if you’d like.
Ryan Bomberger,
I agree with you – it IS ironic that the CPC workers are described in such terms. (It was actually Malin of PPNYC, not Quinn, who said “they prey upon our patients”, but your point is well-taken.)

It is sickening that a baby’s life is reduced to the subject of an ideology, as if the ideology’s importance trumps human life itself. The choice to abort or let a baby be born is seen as capricious – “let the chips fall as they may”. How uncaring a statement by Conlin! Proof that CPC’s are a necessity for pregnant women in need.
Sioko,
LOVE LOVE LOVE what you wrote!
They prey on our patients………
That is quite a stretch since before a woman even walks in an abortion mill she just might NOT WANT AN ABORTION but doesn’t know where else to turn. They are hardly “patients” since you know nothing of their medical history when they walk in.
PP preys on my patience…….
Was it really necessary to say “openly gay?” Does it matter?
Anyway, CPCs can say no abortion. That’s fine. That’s nothing to be upset about. But making them post signs that say “No Medical Staff” is only okay if there really is no medical staff. Many (perhaps most?) do have medical staff.
I think the openly gay thing matters. It seems to be very common. I don’t understand why it seems that openly gay individuals also tend to be extremely pro-abortion. I’d like to know what the connection is. Do you have any thoughts on that, Vannah?
If I ran a McDonalds, would I have to post signs that say ‘No whoppers sold here’
Rosie O’Donnel is the only one I can think of….and ironic since she ADOPTED at least one child before she exited “the closet”.
Abortuaries should be required to post a sign that says “You will not have a doctor/patient relationship here.”
crisis pregnancy centers list themselves under ALTERNATIVES. Perhaps NARAL members need to go back to kindergarten and learn to read.
Abortuaries should be required to post a sign that says “No doctors work here, just Nazis”
Vannah, the CPC’s in Philadelphia usually have an RN on staff. I do think that CPCs should have nurses, a nurse practitioner, or other medical professional on staff, but the problem is, most of them don’t pay much. We have to be beyond reproach!
Was it really necessary to say “openly gay?” Does it matter?
I don’t think so. Being gay doesn’t make her statements about abortion any better or worse.
Kel: Seeing as more and more young people are pro-life and more and more young people support gay marriage, I have a feeling that trend is changing. I think it started in the first place because a lot of GLBT people saw the pro-life movement as a bunch of religious people who thought they were sinners damned to hell, and therefore reacted emotionally as opposed to logically and decided to reject the pro-life movement flat-out.
