Quote of Day 11-1-10
Oddly, conservatives have always had an understated antipathy toward birth control, even though its the best way to curb abortions. But this is another fight they are bound to lose.
One of the best things that could happen for health care, family planning and family dysfunction is widely available contraception.
~Cynthia Tucker, ajc.com, November 1

Do I live in a different century than Cynthia???
Contraception IS widely available…. Does it make abortions any less frequent? No! Why? Because it gives a false sense of security and it has quite a high failure rate… I know women who conceived all their children WHILE on the pill.
Contraception and abortion go hand to hand, that’s why we don’t like it! Contraception gives people (and especially young people) the idea that if there’s NO WAY you can allow yourself get pregnant – use contraception (and we all know what happens when that fails…). Instead there has to be a natural link of if there’s NO WAY that you can allow yourself to get pregnant – don’t have sex for that time.
Have we really become so much like animals, that we don’t have any will and self-control left? That our sexual instincts should rule our lives? Well, we’re no diffeent than monkeys then…. Oh wait… Monkeys don’t kill their pre-born offspring!!!
Vita: Do I live in a different century than Cynthia???
Lol, Vita. That is exactly what I thought when I read this. People do not get pregnant because they do not know how babies are made or because they do not have enough condoms. A lot of the time, people just do not use contraceptions, and, if they do, they fail a lot of the time.
Think about it this way: there are a ton of Westerners who smoke. Would any sane person claim we just need to educate people more on smoking? EVERYONE knows it causes cancer. Likewise, everyone knows sex causes babies, they just do it anyway! (not that babies and cancer are the same, of course…they are both just a common-sense outcome).
But hey, I just we should just trust the pro-choice movement when they promise more condoms equals less abortions. After all, they did promise us abortion would liberate women and end child abuse, and that has been working out so well.
“After all, they did promise us abortion would liberate women and end child abuse, and that has been working out so well.”
Good one!!!
No, no, no, Ms. Tucker, it’s not that simple. A-B-S-T-I-N-E-N-C-E is the best way to curb abortion.
Widely available? I think what she really means is FREE under the new government takeover of health care. Let the special interest lobbying of DHS begin. Free birth control! Free abortifacients! Free abortions!

Exactly.
Argh.
If I just say “New York” and “the UK,” is that okay? I think that really pretty much is all that needs saying.
Good point, Keli. The three most aborting counties in the country are part of the NYC area:
COUNTY LIVE BIRTHS – ABORTION RATIO
Bronx: 113,186 – 108,074
Kings: 198,419 – 155,418 (Brooklyn)
New York: 100,213 – 65,617
Queens County is #4. I assume contraceptives are readily available in these places (by the way, Bronx County is the poorest of the five boroughs.) Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco also have high abortion rates, and I’m sure contraceptives aren’t hard to obtain in these cities, either.
I have no problem with safe, nonabortifacient contraception, but conservative Salt Lake City, and Utah in general, has one of the lowest abortion AND teen pregnancy rates in the country, and I would assume that contraception is not as widely available there as in more liberal locales.

Oh, I believe that, totally. But try giving the numbers to the PC’ers to prove it – you’ll be accused of making them up, biased research, and that “science” (statistics for one) is not important, the abortion rights – are….. Ugh. So frustrating.
I agree with Janet….its called ABSTINENCE……which is not a dirty four letter word. Its also called SELF CONTROL.
Well, the other day I saw by the headline of her column that she was all for that marijuana Prop in California. It all begins to make sense now.
Consider the source. Cynthia Tucker is a liberal of liberals.
She repeats this tired argument in an effort to keep Americans bamboozled about the truth.
What’s that old saying? “If a lie is repeated often enough, people will believe it”? I think it applies here. {sigh}
A bit of information on the birth control pill. Someone with a degree in prolife may have more accurate information as to dates, etc. I DO know that when the birth control pill was being tested in Puerto Rico, women died. So they lowered the estrogen amount.
Less women died of artery blockages. Something else happened. A shift in the amount of estrogen over the years occurred until today, there is an interesting result. I weigh 140 lbs. Mary Jones weighs 120 lbs and Jane Smith weighs 200 lbs…..guess what, the medical person and especially Planned Parenthood prescribes the same pill to all three of us.
The pill should be taken at the same time of the day and following the rules on the package not conflect with other medications. Oh, alcoholic beverages and some foods and other medications can ‘alter’ the function of the pill. Obviously, no panty hose exists that will fit every woman. The same rule goes for one birth control pill fitting every woman.
So one of the three women described above gets pregnant and returns to Planned Parenthood….oh, so sorry…we will advise an abortion to take care of this issue!
I was told last week not to be too concerned if Planned Parenthood(PP) does not follow the new Missouri state law requiring PP to advise women they can see an sonagram of their baby, alternativesw to abortion and that the father is requried by law to support his baby.
The reason is that PP is getting into IVF big time. More money and sometimes more federal and state money.
BTW, go to HeritageHouse76.com or .org and ask for the brochue on what all contraceptives do for the woman’s body. They all, all cause abortions in some way. The biggest lie today is
that contraceptions are such a wonderful thing.
Beside the above data, contraceptions are making the woman’s body a toxic waste dump. If men in high school a re forbidden to take steriods, how come it is OK for women to take contraception?
Please readers, look at the facts on the ABC Link…more and more and more research scientists are coming out to say that contraception and abortion are causes of breast and cervical cancer. hello! Patricia in St. Louis, MO
