Lunch Break: Punxsutawney Phil’s 2011 prediction
Not even the Blizzard of 2011 could stop all-seeing, all-knowing Punxsutawney Phil and its community from braving the winter elements to continue the tradition of forecasting what the next 6 weeks will bring us. The good news: hope is right around the corner!

YAY Pennsylvania! Phil is our groundhog ;-)
“YAY Pennsylvania! Phil is our groundhog”
Really? I never knew…
Isn’t it always 6 more weeks of winter?
This event is actually shown live on local TV in PA. It’s completely unlike the movie with Bill Murray. “Gobbler’s Knob” is actually outside of town, not in the middle of town like in the film. People gather there before dawn, and it’s a huge crowd and they have a great big groundhog party in the dark as they wait for the Sun to come up.
Phil usually sees his shadow, which means six more weeks of Winter. This year, however, he didn’t see is, so that means an early Spring. At least, it does if you believe that a man in a top hat can actually speak “groundhogese” and that he personally asked Phil if he saw his shadow or not. Ahem.
Thank you John. The in-the-dark party waiting for sunrise is such a hoot. It’s good for adults to put aside their adulthood and be like children - go for the make-believe. I’m willing to believe (just for 1 day) that the top official for the event can actually speak and interpret “groundhogese”. :)
