Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagles Fly
by LauraLoo
Hope everyone is having a great Independence Day as we celebrate our country’s 235th birthday!
Those of us who have faith and trust in God know that our country is 100% dependent on Him for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We also owe our freedoms to our loyal military whom God uses to protect us.
Today we feature Aaron Tippin’s patriotic song Where the Stars and Stripes and Eagles Fly.

I’m curious, and I mean this with the utmost sincerity: how do pro-lifers also support the military? If you believe thou shalt not kill, and you condemn the death of every aborted fetus, do you also condemn military men and women for their killing? What about civilian collateral?
Jane, not all of us are pro war. But, I think most people see a difference between killing an unborn child and a defensive war fought for national security. I am anti-war, but I can understand that it can be necessary at times. I cannot understand how abortion could be necessary, except for the life off the mother.
And by the way, those of us who hate war still support the troops.
Hi Jack,
An abortion is never necessary.
A child can be delivered by emergency c-section and given medical attention to save the life of the mother. The unfortunate result might be the death of the child. The intent is to save the life of the mother and try to save the life of the child as well.
The intent of an abortion is to kill the child.
The brave men and women who have served in our military and fought for MY freedom, YOUR freedom and the freedom of all of us will always hold a special place in my heart.
God bless our troops!!
I didn’t answer you Jane, because it doesn’t really matter to me what you think of my support of our military.
Thanks Carla and Jack well said. I agree. BTW HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Hi Carla,
I was thinking about ectopics when I said that. Can you remove a tubal pregnancy without killing the baby deliberately? I really don’t know.
Removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not considered an abortion.
I agree with Carla here, Jack. I think this falls under what is called the principle of double effect. Basically, the principle of double effect states that in a situation where you have a conflict of interests occurring and the gravity that both sides would endure is serious, one may engage in an action in order to help one agent, knowing that that action would lead to some lose for teh other agent, presuming that the damage suffered to teh latter agent is not as grave as the damage that the former agent would have suffered. Okay, so I didn’t say that well at all, but the idea with ectopic pregnancy is that we have a situation where if no action is taken, both parties will die. We thus wish to save as many lives as possible, yet without directly causing harm to anyone involved. Removing the embryo from teh fallopian tube is an attempt to heal teh mother of her ailment, NOT an attempt to kill someone. It is also an action taken that is not a direct killing; rather, it is the removal of teh embryo from the fallopian tube and then every attempt is made to save the life of taht embryo. True, we do not have the technology to save it yet and this is quite well known when we remove the embryo, but that does not undermine the fact that doing teh action of killing was not what saved the mother’s life. Also, as we noted, both parties would die if we did not remove the embryo. We can’t remove the embryo just for convenience or whatever; it must be an extremely grave situation like danger of death in order to justify taking an action that we known will result in teh embryo’s death.
Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for the information Bobby and Carla, sorry if the question was offensive.
Not at all. It’s a difficult question, and one that needs to be addressed carefully and thoughtfully.
They should really tell people it isn’t considered an abortion, though. When my wife was pregnant with our daughter they thought it might be tubal and they told her that she would have to get an abortion if it was. She of course freaked out and was pretty much inconsolable until we found out it wasn’t tubal. There should be a better way of explaining it, especially to prolife women.
Your question wasn’t offensive.
I agree wholeheartedly that there needs to be more education!
I completely understand the “freaking out” as I have consoled friends who were afraid they were having an abortion when their tubal pregnancies were removed. I am sorry your wife and you went through that!! Prolife doctors may have more compassion than others.
It is the proabortion crowd that is trying to skew the experiences of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and abortion into one.
Thank you Carla. If the doctor had taken the time to explain the situation to us in more detail, I think it would have been a little less traumatizing for my wife especially. thankfully, we ended up with a healthy kid, but the doctor didn’t help at all with the emotional aspect.
I think pro-choicers probably want legitimate procedures tied to abortion to give abortion legitimacy. It is confusing to those of us who really don’t know much about medicine.
Very well said Jack. I am sorry your wife went through this. You are right the doctor should have explained it better and used terms more carefully but I think some of them do want to legitimize abortion, I am not sure of her doctor’s motivation. I worked in a Catholic hospital for years on the OB/GYN unit, we always took ectopic as a possible life threatening emergency, quickly prepped the expectant mother for surgery and would save the life of the mother knowing that the embryo could not survive and would have to be removed but we also tried to explain this carefully to the mother and family. We NEVER let a mother die to save an embryo or unborn baby. If at all possible, we would save them both but the mother would come first if there was no other choice. We were there to save lives not take them.
Excuse me, I’d just like to ask a question.
What does god need with
a starshipan army?
