Stanek Sunday extra: Carrie Underwood sings “How Great Thou Art” at CMAs
During our communion time this weekend, my church is playing Carrie Underwood’s amazing rendition of “How Great Thou Art,” which she sang at this spring’s Country Music Awards (with Vince Gill on guitar), as background worship music.
Underwood received a standing ovation for her performance, and many, including me, wiped tears from their eyes by its end. The YouTube video has received over 7 million views…

Indeed, How great is our God. Happy Sunday!

God is great.
And Carrie isn’t too bad herself! :)
Even if you don’t have an understanding of music, you can still be moved by the talent.
But if you don’t know the ONE of whom she sings, you will not fully appreciate why she sings.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahoooooooooooooooooo! [redneck for haleleujah!]
Go Jesus!
Wonderful — same for the guitar. I liked the edge in her last note. I think she enjoyed singing that, there.
And SO nice to hear female vocals without all the stunningly idiotic melisma that seems ubiquitous nowadays. Ya can’t even hear the Star Spangled Banner at a ball game any more without some yahoo dame imagining she’s doing the song a favor by turning it into an aural roller coaster.
Rasqual: Ya can’t even hear the Star Spangled Banner at a ball game any more without some yahoo dame imagining she’s doing the song a favor by turning it into an aural roller coaster.
Ha! I agree, Rasqual, as my father before me commented, long ago (2 or 3 decades), on hearing Cher sing it.
“Sing it straight,” he said.
