Lunch Break: Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Dakota Meyer
by LauraLoo
Sergeant Dakota Meyer embodies all the characteristics of a true American hero – so deserving of the Medal of Honor presented to him last week by President Obama.
Congratulations to Dakota, and may God bless and protect all our wonderful military heroes!

A wonderful story, but I look forward to the day when such awards are not needed, as we will beat our swords into ploughshares . . .

Yes very well deserved and thank you sir. What you guys do everyday redefines bravery for this generation and ones to come. I hope these pointless wars will end soon and all our troops can come home to the people who love them.
I keep seeing stories on the news of soldiers surprising their children by coming home unannounced and the first couple I saw on GMA I thought “That is SO sweet” but after a few more I began to realize how many children in America are missing their parents or siblings and how many will never be reunited with their loved ones… After 10 years of blood and broken families in numerous countries, and with no clear mission or even a general point, maybe it is time to stop. We have broken enough families, on all sides, in the last decade. We want our Sons and Daughters back! We miss them greatly…

P.S. As an afterthought, Sergeant Dakota is infinitely more qualified to be Commander in Chief than a former community organizer.

I wish that Obama had stopped calling him a “guy”. This is a man, not a “guy”, and calling him a “guy” in my opinion both degrades Dakota and manhood in general. It’s a bit like calling a woman a “gal”. I mean, the man is receiving the medal of honor. Let’s treat this man, who is certainly a role model, with at least the dignity and respect that every mature person who has practiced the virtue of sacrifice deserves, and refer to him as a man.
Ditch the note of his “down-to-earthness”, ditch the emphasis on “having a beer” with the President, and focus on this man’s heroic deeds. What our country needs right now is heroes, so that we all can be lifted up with them with inspiration, not “yet another guy” whose deserved hero-status has been dragged down to be like everyone else.
And also, who cares about what dignitaries are there, what leaders of the country. This isn’t about who is there, this is about what this man has done.

I don’t like the president’s position on abortion or his actions on some other things. However, it is not fitting for an American president to lord it over other citizens. I think having a beer with Sgt. Meyer is an appropriate gesture from the president. I am not sure why it bothers folks.

Hans isn’t the only one who’s calling President Obama a Zero…

Was no one else bothered by the fact that so many in the media claimed the President had awarded Sgt Meyer the Medal of Honor?
And I agree, he is not a guy, especially to a complete stranger. He is a Marine, now and forever.
