Lunch Break: Josh McDowell’s newest book “The Bare Facts”
by LauraLoo
Recently I listened to Gary Chapman’s interview with Josh McDowell on his newest book The Bare Facts.
Below is a video on the same topic.
Not only was his viewpoint regarding when and how to engage children on the topic of sex interesting, I noted how destructive one exposure to pornography can be to a child who stumbles (or purposely find it) on the Internet.

He’s dead on. The greatest way to destroy our children is to not give them an authentic, wholistic understanding of sexuality. Sadly, too few Christians know this nor can they explicate it to their kids for a variety of factors. They need to first understand what it means to be human, that we are created to be gifts, starting from birth, and then when their feelings become eroticized, there will be a natural progression into these very delicate topics.
I disagree on two points: 1) The divorce rate is close to 60% for marriages where porn is involved. 2) Although it is good to bring this topic up, there was no discussion on what to do about it once a child is exposed. I work with men (and open to women) with a one-on-one mentoring called Freedom Coaching (focused on healing the problem in a relatively short period of time, not giving more coping mechanisms — website coming soon!) and every single one of them was exposed when they were very young but have never learned how to healthily integrate and heal from that exposure. It’s an epidemic and we must speak out more about this.
