Lunch Break: Rick Santorum’s daughter hospitalized

On Sunday it was announced that Rick Santorum’s 3-year-old daughter Bella was hospitalized with pneumonia. In addition, Bella suffers from Trisomy 18, a life-threatening genetic disorder. Let’s take a moment to pray for her and the entire Santorum family during this difficult time. They are truly a special family!

I hope, most importantly, that Bella makes a full and speedy recovery and secondly, that santorum can return to the campaign trail as soon as possible.
I am so incredibly glad this is getting press because Trisomy 18 is one of the ‘incompatible with life’ diagnosies that doctors pressure women to abort for. It was actually the specific disorder that my first OB tried to use as a scare tactic when she tried to convince me that the quad screen was a good idea so I could abort if something was found. (Horrible doc btw, I had just told her that I would consent to the quad screen because it could help give us time to prepare if something would be wrong but I wouldn’t abort period. And she goes off on how I didn’t understand how horrible some conditions could be and how she didn’t think she could be my ob if I couldn’t agree with the possibility of abortion and demanded I see a high risk specialists so I could be ‘fully informed’…jerk. she wasn’t my ob for long! The high risk specialist was actually really nice though)
Having the knowledge of a 3 year old with trisomy 18 who is beloved by their parents may help women being pressured to abort to tell their obs to take a flying.
Some of the comments about Bella I’ve read on other websites are just disturbing. Some people say her getting sick is God’s way of telling him not to be president. Others call the Santorum family cruel for not aborting Bella!
On a happier note, Bella is such a beautiful little girl…she looks just like her daddy! Glad to hear she’s doing better.
