November was adoption awareness month in Kenya, but not many people know this because adoption is not a popular topic. Many misconceptions exist, especially about the people who choose to adopt and the adopted children themselves.
Featured is a Kenyan mother of three who confirms the myths about adoption are just that – myths.

Nancy Verrier, an adoptive mother, wrote “Primal Wound: Understanding the Adopted Child.” Her website at http://nancyverrier.com/the-primal-wound is a good place to go in order to deal with the harm caused by the splitting of the biologically based mother-baby bond so that adopted children are more likely to be helped to become healthy people.
More power to Kenya. It is great to see children adopted within their own country and culture with common sense guidelines in place.

(Denise) All I did was direct people to a book by an adoptive mother that addresses the special issues of the adopted. That website and the book she authored will be of great help both to adoptees and their adoptive parents.
