Pro-life video of the day: Boxes for babies
by Hans Johnson
The day after Christmas is that sullen day when holiday songs suddenly disappear from the radio. But for Britain and the Commonwealth Nations, it’s known as Boxing Day.
No, that’s not when gifts are boxed up to be returned to stores, but a tradition of giving Christmas boxes to those in service jobs.
But in Finland, a different sort of box is being given to new mothers – a box of baby care items which has been credited for the sharp drop in the country’s infant mortality rate.
After being emptied of supplies, the boxes are then used as ready-made cribs, much as has always been done: whether it be hotel dresser drawers, theater trunks, or – a manger.
Do you think such “starter kits” should be issued by the U.S. government as well? Or should this be left to CPCs, church groups, and other charities?

Wishing everyone one here at Jill’s a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
God bless us everyone!! :)
I don’t think OCare has coverage for that does it. The current commander-in-chief and his people simply do not care for life. The only thing they seem to know is the address of the nearest PP “clinic.”
I think that yes – that would be grand. Unfortuntely this undertaking is not possible with the democratic party in the Oval Office.
Let’s introduce it to the Senate or House and see what happens and who fights it. I’d be interested to see, as I think it’s a fantastic idea.
It’s a great idea, but I don’t see how it would save lives.
What saves lives is the accessible prenatal care, high standard of living, decent maternity leave, education on nutrition/exercise during pregnancy, thorough post-natal care and support. 140 Euros isn’t enough to raise a child. But the gesture is really wonderful and I’m sure some poorer families really appreciate it!
http://www.showersonwheels.org makes a tiny contribution in this regard.
But 15 years after Paul Swope’ s “Abortion: A Failure to Communicate”, the Pro Life Establishment remains largely oblivious about why we can’t change the hearts of the Elites who have such as stranglehold over academia, media, big-biz & politics. See http://www.cfl-sacramento.org/surprising-ingredient-to-creating-a-pro-life-culture/
Yes, it would be wonderful if the U.S govt gave these out t. Expectant mothers. Especially since Obama wants baby-killing to be “rare” , but then again ObamaCare probably wouldn’t cover it due to him and Cecile Richards being best buds.

Great post!
I find it a big stretch to see how a box of items can be directly attributed to a lower infant mortality rate. Other reasons for the dramatic decline in infant mortality rate in Finland over those years is their socialized medical program for all citizens. That includes birth control (oh my!), access to abortion, in addition to pre-natal care for all women.
Slamming the Affordible Care Act is wrong. It requires pre-natal coverage. You are aware that many health insurance policies excluded pre-natal and maternal coverage. Aren’t you? With the expansion of medicaid under the ACA, no child under 18 will be without health care. Some of you people need to put your partisianship in the back seat. Many so-called pro-life politicians don’t want those entitlements for the poor.
The last info I could find on infant mortality pointed strongly toward people having insurance. Two states in the US with the lowest rates were New Hampshire and Mass.
The two states with the highest was Mississippi and Alabama.
Hopefully as Health Care Reform brings millions into the world of insurance, we’ll see improvement in this country. Unfortunately, too many states chose not to expand Medicaid, which will lead to deaths. Let’s hope those decisions reverse over time.
Christmas isn’t over! At our church here in South London we BEGIN celebrating Christmas at 11.30 pm on 24 Dec (the preceding four weeks of Advent are devoted more to soul-searching than rejoicing… after all, Jesus is coming back, and which of us can say we are ready?) – and goes on, as tradition demands, for the best part of six weeks. Our Christmas Barn Dance is on Feb 1 (the night before Candlemas, traditionally the last day of the Christmas Holiday). Not a day too long to celebrate the Incarnation of God! Merry Christmas All…
Finland does not have abortion on demand. A woman can apply for an abortion and may get it if she has a good reason to want an abortion. There is also mandatory counselling. Finland has a lower abortion rate than the other four Nordic countries.
As for the box saving babies: many babies slept in the box which meant they were dry, clean and safe from family members rolling on them. In the 1940s living conditions were often bad, especially during and after the war.
