(Not so) pro-life vid of day: Clinic counselor films own abortion
by LauraLoo
Emily Letts shares her actual abortion experience on video (not graphic), as well as her thoughts approximately six weeks after the abortion, in an attempt to provide strength and support to abortion-vulnerable/abortion-minded women in similar situations.
Emily further states that having an abortion does not make one a bad or sad person, nor should it make one feel guilty.
However, most telling is her strange comment at the end: “I feel in awe of the fact that I can make a baby; I can make a life.”
And then kill that baby, apparently….

Honestly, I’m not even going to watch this one.

I did fast-forward to the end. She understands that a great many people insist that one cannot kill another person without remorse, and yet she insists that she does not feel any sadness or remorse. ”It was the right choice” for her.
We cannot promise her that she will always feel this way about herself. The awe that she feels about creating life is a reality that often collides with what she has done to that life.
And we cannot assure her that she can have another child when she thinks that she is ready. This abortion may have already impaired her fertility forever.

I watched it for you. In the beginning, plain fear behind the “I’m not ready to have a baby,” no empowerment. Then you see her with someone holding her hand while the abortion happens. It really made me think about such a similar circumstance, two weeks ago for the birth of my daughter through c-section, holding my wife’s hand. The indescribable joy of meeting your child face-to-face for the first time after the fear that something could wrong, versus the anti-climactic emptiness of watching a murder on video, of course not seeing what happens behind the sheet. “Yeah…. cool.” It’s a vision of what our society by-in-large has become. “It was right for me.” But not her daughter, disposed of and not even treated as a subject to be mentioned in the video. The emptiness of the abortion clinic is palpable compared to the excitement in surgery waiting for the c-section to finish. Compare it to a birth video; why someone would trade that emptiness for the most amazing moment in life is just beyond me emotionally.

Notice how many times she says “feel”. It’s all about how she “feels” not about what might actually be right or wrong.
If you are an actual clinic counselor, one would think you would be the most educated about how to use birth control to prevent pregnancy. But it’s not really about preventing pregnancy. It’s really about having the right to kill humans.
I wonder how this lost young lady will feel about her claim-to-fame video in ten years. It hit me like a ton of bricks when I came to grips with the selfish sexually-related choices I made as a young person — and these choices were not videotaped nor did they physically kill another human being.
Heartbreaking.

I want to see the body. I want to see the truth. I can handle the truth.

I’ve never seen it and have no interested in seeing it, but young people have told me about a show called “A Thousand Ways to Die”.
This video should be added to that show.
And her eyes on the still picture. . .

That’s right, Carla. Where is her “courage” to show and encounter what happens on the other side of the screen to the life she created?

That’s it, I’m done for the week. Need a break from this “I am so empowered! I can create my own child’s life and then destroy it because I want to!” stuff.

She is in awe that “she could have made a baby and created a LIFE”. WOW!! You recognized that you made a baby and created a LIFE then what did you just do? You mutilated your own baby not a blob of tissue, your own flesh and blood, your child that you should have been willing to protect with your own life. You willingly took someone else’s LIFE, you paid someone else to take the LIFE of or in other words to kill your child. May God help you, I will pray for you.

This is just so ….. heartbreaking and twisted. Couldn’t even watch the video. I can’t believe she would admit to the fact that she created life *while* she’s having teh abortion.
That’s just so heartbreaking.

The rationale for many abortions can be summed up in a few words . . . I don’t want to be bothered, it’s all about ME!

This video will be a daily reminder for Ms Letts of the “procedure.” The statement at the end will one day drive the point against this abortion home for her.

I cried for Emily and her baby. Someday, your “awe” will be filled with soooo many emotions that you will start to go into a downward spiral. I can only hope & pray that someone will be there for you when you do. Yes, remorse!

Hey Sis, you can’t create a baby. You are a merely a repository for DNA, that you have to get some help with to get to finish the puzzle. It is good that you butcher your DNA mess. I would hate to have to have the world suffer with any of your offspring.

Sorry, killing your baby, filming it and celebrating the murder does make you a bad person.

I don’t think she is in awe of the fact that she “can make a baby/a life”. At current, those are only poetic sounding words to her. If she were in awe, she wouldn’t seek to destroy. Who gazes at the stars in awe and dreams of launching nuclear rockets at them? Who is enraptured with a piece of art and slashes it to pieces? That she is able to use the words “awe”, “baby”, and “life” in communion makes me think it is likely that the truth is near enough that she will one day feel the awe that is currently disconnected from her words. I pray that day comes soon but at the same time my heart is broken for the anguish she will feel. :(

I just feel the woman is in a state of suspended belief , she may never actually feel the” Awe”of a life being created within her , which incidentally she didn’t create, our Creator did ,, as she has so flagrantly extinguished the gift of life so casually, I actually hope as a mother , that she is never to abuse another baby again , that baby that died has lost its only chance of life , who is she , is she ?God ? to allow the life to be annihilated, for shame woman , for shame , words fail me .

Obviously Emily thinks otherwise. Along with a great many others.
I just feel the woman is in a state of suspended belief – I think you might be projecting.
which incidentally she didn’t create, our Creator did – that may not be her belief, which would make it kinda meaningless.
She has nothing to be ashamed of and you can’t put shame upon her.

All humans have a soul. They scream for justice, when they are unjustly destroyed. The idea that my mother thinks she has a right to kill me doesn’t sit well.

Exactly Jasper, Demonic. Should we call a priest or minister who does exorcism? She seems to embrace, celebrate and bask in the spirit of death as she purposely films the destruction of her own child.

I think we need to take every abortion case by case…shes a clinic counselor? Well then shouldnt she know how to avoid pregnancy? Are all women who have abortions bad people? Some are. Some were pressured and some knew what they were doing. Take someone in prison…rape murder etc. Okay I was watching an episode where a child molester raped and killed a little girl. He stated “Im the type of person who should never leave prison. I would rape and kill again.” Then you have many who are sorry and wouldnt murder again. Same applies to abortion imo.

Dearest Emily Letts,
I am sorry that you think what you are doing will EMPOWER or bring FREEDOM or FULFILL a PROMISE for you. Abortion can NEVER and will NEVER do any of those things in your life. Paying someone to kill your child brings bondage.
When/if you EVER need healing and you come to the end of yourself because you cannot bear the regret of ending the life of your precious child I am praying you reach out for help and hope and abortion recovery.

The ACT of abortion is demonic. It is child sacrifice to the god Molech. And satan and his minions laugh their heads off outside the gates of hell which are the abortion mill doors.
A woman that strangles her newborn and films it with a smile would be considered what exactly? EMBRACING HER FREEDOM?

Anybody knows how to have sex but she didnt make the baby alone so God knitted the child into her womb. I mean did she just keep having sex to see if she would become pregnant? And then Poof like majic it happened. Something doesnt quite add up here. She knew how to avoid unwanted pregnancy yet didnt. It came down to her getting up on that abortion table. Lady I hope you realize abortion is not fun and games. What youve done is not a laughing matter and yet you filmed it? Would you film a child rape or a murder? Well looks like youve done the latter. I pray that God will heal your warped mind.

If the only differences are age and location of the child – inside the womb, versus outside the womb – what would a rational person say to or about the person making the choice to take the life of their newborn child? Their 2-year-old? Their six-year-old? We are in a terrible moral and spiritual battle. This grieves me.

Yet you think it’s good her baby was killed so we wouldn’t have to suffer through her offspring existing? Interesting dichotomy you got there. :/ Calling it, you’re trolling to make pro-lifers look bad.
I don’t think anyone can know that’s she definitely a bad person or anything like that. You can do a bad thing and it doesn’t have to define you. She seems really young, too.

When they were wheeling her out of the killing room I had a vision of a curly-haired fair-headed little girl being grabbed and dragged out of the room while clutching for her mother and yelling “mommy!!!”
If she could have glimpsed into the future and seen how much she would love her child….
I remember when I found out I was pregnant with both my sons. I had no idea who they were. But if I had aborted I would have such a hole in my life. The thought of tossing them away now is horrific to me. But if I had aborted that is exactly what I would have done. Tossed these very 2 same boys away.
She has no idea the harm she as caused herself. She has no idea the joy she has just so stupidly ripped from her life.

Had some time to think about this. She appears to be somewhat giddy when she admits that she’s pregnant. I think she got pregnant on purpose because she felt left out of what the women she counsels go through. She wanted to be a part of the club. She wanted her 15 minutes of fame. She is now a member of the club, made her first feature film and her baby paid the price.
She is a piece of work.

I actually knew Emily through a good friend in College. I watched this video a few weeks ago and it still infuriates me. I have NEVER seen such selfishness before in my life and disregard for what is ACTUALLY HAPPENING. Yes… her quote in the end; “I am in awe of how I can make life” is disgusting, naive and ridiculous especially when she shows how “easy” it can be to kill that life… I honestly am wondering if this was a media ploy from the beginning. Abortion is NOT a form of birth control… birth control is a form of birth control.

Reality, killing babies is wrong, no amount of rhetoric, cajoling, reassuring or clever sophistry will change that, ever. – ‘killing babies’ maybe, not terminating fetuses. Why does the word ‘fetus’ exist?

Whats funny about all the PRO-choice websites say about this video… they say “Video tapes her abortion- NOT GRAPHIC”… I just think its funny that even they admit that the act of an abortion can be graphic and disturbing. Has anyone who have actually gotten an abortion SEEN HOW they actually do it? It is one of the most gruesome things I have ever read/seen. YET… its done on a normal basis because we call something with a heartbeat-feelings-neurons firing in their brains- a “Fetus”. Why do they call it a Fetus? Cause its much easier to kill a fetus than a baby. And I wouldn’t put it past this girl to have done this on purpose with A) what she knows about preventative things to avoid conception B) how doing this would benefit what she does/her employer C) How she has gained a LOT of following from this. People who get abortions arent bad people… but dont MASK and BELITTLE what is ACTUALLY happening here. A Life… is being ended.

It is one of the most gruesome things I have ever read/seen. – so is a hip replacement.
Why do they call it a Fetus? – to clearly define the difference between a fetus, an infant or an adolescent? ‘Baby’ is not a definitive term. I keep asking why the word fetus exists but no one seems keen to answer.
And I wouldn’t put it past this girl to have done this on purpose – good grief, another one!?!
I like your name “Reality” even though the Reality of abortion is completely ignored. – not by me Sara Smith, not by me.

I finally watched the video. Shock, sadness, horror, and the fact I held my breath through almost the entire video sums up pretty much my experience of watching this.
The way her hands were being held her her humming the way she did reminded me of labor and delivery…except there was no labor and delivery. It was just an extermination of the human being out from her before said human being could live outside the womb. As a woman and a mother, I felt a sense of betrayal. And when when she talked about creating life and everything at the end I thought to myself “Well if you recognize getting pregnant as creating a new life how come you decided to end it all?” I looked in her eyes and saw denial and an extreme need to convince herself it was okay. I did NOT see a woman who was fully okay with her decision.

Some women have trouble getting pregnant. This women is in “awe”. Ok.

Well since some women do experience difficulty getting pregnant wouldn’t that make it at least a little bit awesome to some johno?
Emily even says in the end… “Im amazed I can create life”… so she admits she took a life. Who ever this “Reality” person is, is not in reality. The difference between a hip replacement and an abortion is that an abortion is completely voluntary and completely avoidable. A hip replacement… not avoidable and a medical necessity. This is a typical case of the human being being able to convince themself that anything can be good. This is not good… The only showing of “Power” here is that she proves she can indeed take a life and end it. It’ll be interesting to see what she thinks 5-10-20 years from now.

well since some people do experience difficulty getting pregnant wouldnt that make it at least a bit awesome to some?

Emily Letts- Im assuming you are “Reality” based on your comment saying “When did I do that”…please explain how my hip replacement concept is inaccurate… ive had one… had no choice or I wouldn’t walk. Did you have to get an abortion for a medical reason? Or did you have a choice? You are Pro-choice so you had a choice. Dont you have something better to do than to come to a Pro-life website and try and plead your case? Youre not a bad person, but dont belittle what was done and is done through the abortion process.

You seem a little bit confused and very uninformed “Todd Greene”. How do you come to think I’m Emily based on my saying “When did I do that?” when told I had an abortion? I have not had an abortion. Have you?
You suggest medical reasons as cause for abortion and yet ask why I said your statement was not accurate?
I’m not pleading my case, I’m pleading the case for womens hard won rights and freedoms.
Youre not a bad person – you draw this conclusion based on what exactly. I have no idea what sort of person you might be ;-)
but don’t belittle what was done and is done through the abortion process – *blink*

I stated an abortion is voluntary and avoidable, a hip replacement is not. You said that’s not an accurate assessment yet did not explain yourself.’wheres the in accuracy? The abortion part or hip part? I’ve not had an abortion but know many who have had an all of those cases have regretted that decision years later (4 different individuals) for differing reasons. I’m not sure where you see my confusion, please explain yourself. I’m actually very informed of the abortion process sitting through one in residency and have even gone through the first steps at planned parent hood to learn more about the process. The honest truth is- if people knew what has to be done in order to terminate that “life you’re able to create” and understood what it does to the women physically, emotional and neurogically less people would be crying “it’s women’s rights” and more “maybe this isn’t right”. Unfortunately, ultimately, it comes to symantics when talking about abortion. When is a life a baby, a fetus whatever. The heart beat doesn’t prove life (yet proves death :-/) this video is one side, one story of a women put in a crappy situation, trying to prove a point in a horrible way. And please- stop your responses of quoting others on this wall in italics and adding your passive aggressive remarks. You’re answers haven’t informed or persuaded only proven how some can make life threatening decisions when they aren’t Truly informed. If you’re Emily or not- it doesn’t matter. *blink*

Abortion isn’t always avoidable, any more than is a hip replacement.
Your confusion - How do you come to think I’m Emily based on my saying “When did I do that?” when told I had an abortion?
I used *blink* in response to you accusing me of ‘belittling’ abortion and what is done. Since I do not belittle what abortion can help to achieve it seems an strange word for an anti-choicer to use.
Reading the rest of your little diatribe I have to wonder if *hic* might not be a more appropriate term for you to use.

Doesnt she realize that what she threw away is something some people would give anything for? I dont agree shes not a bad person. If someone stole your car would you be quick to call them a good person? How about a rapist? Hes just a good person with a need to rape. What she has done makes me ill and filmed it to boot. Id say shes either confused or indeed she IS a bad person. Why? I mean why? She knew better. Did she call her bf one night and say “Lets just see if we can create a life.” Then she gets pregnant and trots off to abort. As someone else stated how will she feel 10 20 yrs down the road? I will still pray for her and she doesnt look all that young to me…to address deluded. Old enough to know better.

whether or not your Emily Letts… Really doesnt matter. If you look on Emily’s Facebook page she shares that theres one instance where her video is being used in a “negative way”. This is one of the only websites that come up when you search for her video AND (Like I have mentioned before) this is a PRO-LIFE website. So… one can only lead to that she knows about this website. I wouldnt put it past her to be the one (Since she is advocating for women’s right) to put the name “reality”. If thats not the case… eh. Did you know emily did this video for a contest? :-)
I think its funny that you think i am a “hic”… Not sure where you’re jumping to that conclusion. I live in New York and work in the NICU. So… if me being Pro-life makes me a “Hic”… alrighty.
Does anyone know the reason for Emily’s abortion? Was it a health thing? Was her survival in jeopardy? All I know is there are many ABORTIONS that are performed that are COMPLETELY avoidable with contraceptives, birth control etc. In FACT Emily goes on to say she know is “Protected”… SO… she made a mistake… an oops… and who paid for it? Her child.
again… its called a Fetus because its easier to kill a fetus. Did you know when you go to planned parent hood they correct you when you say baby? They dont let you look at the monitor during their ultrasound? Why… cause they dont want the woman to become emotionally attached. The whole process is done in a very sneaky, manipulative and quiet way.
Reality- its been fun. Once again I think it is funny you come to a Pro-life website pleading your case… thanks for making this so enlightening and solidifying our feelings about this.

Also mentioned here that it was a contest winner: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=638370662879606&set=a.434118023304872.91554.401185913264750&type=1&theater
And an article about it: http://www.abortioncarenetwork.org/news/2014-video-competition-winners-announced

I think the whole thing is very sad.

Thanks LibertyBelle. Being so close to so many Preemie babies and knowing that a Child CAN and OFTEN does survive outside of the uterus WAY before the mark of when they are “babies” makes it that more heart breaking when you see something like this. We live in a very corrupt and sinful world when we can disguise or mask something so awful as an “outpatient procedure” just like having an appendix removed. Sad that pro-lifers are painted in such an awful way when were trying and fighting to prevent such an awful thing. PS… Im a dad and LOVE LOVE LOVE my daughter. Kids are blessings.

Aw that’s great – how old is your daughter? Just had a baby myself. He’s full of spunk.
Yeah I know. It is sad because those babies in NICU are the age when many abortions are done. It’s tragic that in one place, a baby is being brutally murdered and down the road, a baby of the same gestational age has a medical team fighting for his/her survival. What a world we live in.
And yeah it makes me sad that prolifers are painted in such a bad light. It’s probably a defense mechanism.

when you go to planned parent hood (sic) they correct you when you say baby – the correct term for a fetus is fetus isn’t it?
They dont let you look at the monitor during their ultrasound – you have valid evidence that this is true and correct?
Reality- its been fun. – I agree.

Why does she feel compelled to show women this can be a “positive experience?” How many people are anxious to have their colonoscopies or breast biopsies filmed to show they can be “positive”?
Also Emily, don’t be so sure you can create another life. Sometimes, for reasons unknown, women will conceive only once in their lifetimes. Its called “secondary infertility”, and is often a very unpleasant surprise to those who assume they can create a life whenever they want to.

Why does she feel compelled to show women this can be a “positive experience?” – to counteract the false propaganda.
How many people are anxious to have their colonoscopies or breast biopsies filmed to show they can be “positive”? – my ex was handed footage of her endoscopy and I was offered footage of my colonoscopy. We see film of people undergoing certain procedures whilst awake all the time on tv (as well as the ones where they aren’t awake). The footage here didn’t show the actual procedure anyway, not like on tv.
Reality,
What better way to counter “false propaganda” than to show the actual procedure itself and how positive it is?
Its one thing to have your procedure filmed for your benefit or for your medical records, its another thing to put it out there for the world to see. Of course if you want to be my guest, though I must admit I would consider it a bit odd. Why would you see any need to and who cares?
Yes we see film of the actual procedures and that is the purpose. You are warned they may be graphic.

I think Emily eminently demonstrated what a positive experience she was having.
My ex’s endoscopy was interesting. It didn’t get uploaded anywhere.
(I said no thanks when offered footage of my colonoscopy, although I have seen images of what was removed)
Yes we do and yes we are.
Reality,
You didn’t address my question. If her experience is so positive, then why not film the procedure itself? I’ve seen open heart surgery and bullet wounds on TV, as well as in real life, why not this?
Because in this instance the central focus was on her experience and how she felt and thought about it. The medical programs during which we see the specific procedures themselves aren’t centrally focussed on the thoughts and feelings of the person as they undego the procedure. We generally see them happy and thankful afterwards of course.

Reality,
Unless she told us, then for all we would have known she was having a scar removal or a pelvic exam.
We could have seen the procedure and also known her feelings and reaction.

This is a graphic read.
Just to be clear… this is how abortions are performed. Maybe Emily should have walked us through what was happening during the procedure? ”This is when the child is cut from my uterus and cut into pieces.”
Im shocked that, after reading these, people view it as a simple procedure. Sad world we live in. This is barbaric.

Agreed Jill.
Why not shoot the vid from behind the abortionist’s shoulder? Why hide the cannula? The tubing? The collection jar? The blood and body parts flowing through the tubing into the collection jar?
THAT is what is happening to her baby while she smiles and narrates her “simple procedure.”

Unless she told us, then for all we would have known she was having a scar removal or a pelvic exam. – well she did tell us.
We could have seen the procedure and also known her feelings and reaction. – the whole aim of the piece was her sharing her thoughts and feelings about the procedure with us, not to demonstrate the procedure itself. I know you would prefer the graphic stuff but this was about her and her experience, not you. There’s plenty of graphic stuff available.
Reality,
No I don’t prefer the graphic stuff at all. But if her experience is so important and she really cares about sharing…well then do so.
Also, what’s graphic about an abortion?
You keep giving me the impression you have no interest in what Emily has to say – the purpose of the video – but just want to see the abortion procedure itself.
graphic : shown or described in a very clear way
An abortion is as ‘graphic’ as anything else you wish to mention. ‘Graphic’ doesn’t itself necessarily connote negative, positive, good, bad or whatever.

Not at all Reality,
I realize this whole thing could easily be staged, being that she works at an abortion clinic, and we have only her word as to what is going on.
Now, if you’re going to describe your experience, I think you should at least prove that you have in fact experienced it. I don’t think photographic evidence of her actually having an abortion is unreasonable. Since she is so anxious to share her experience and “feelings” with the world, then she should have no qualms about “graphics”, especially since as you state graphic doesn’t itself necessarily connote negative, etc.

There is nothing in the definition of the word fetus that denies his or her humanity. We called our son XQ before he was born; it did not change who he was. It did not change the essence of his being.

I know Emily and it took me two weeks to find the courage to click on her video that I first saw through her Facebook. I was hoping it would be something other than what it was, but couldn’t click, for fear that it was what it ended up being.
I consider this woman a friend of mine. I’ve traveled with her and gained insights into her heart and thought her to be a passionate and compassionate woman. After seeing this video, I think she’s the biggest example of how the millennial culture will flub up the future of this country.
I am not anti-abortion, but I am pro-common sense. It seems to me that a person who spends their days seeing the fallout from the poor decision making of others would be extremely cautious [not that it even takes extreme caution] with regard to their own reproductive health. This video was flip and callous. It makes me sick and angry. It’s a perfect reason why people don’t understand the issue: a woman of privilege eliminating an inconvenient pregnancy.
I WANT TO SHAKE HER. I hope somehow she sees this. Your video isn’t inspirational. It’s twisted and selfish. It makes me sick and I’m not the only one of your friends to feel this way by a damn sight. It’s horrible what you’ve done. It’s reckless and with the education we have you should be so much smarter than you are.
I’m so angry at you. I don’t forgive you. I will forever see recklessness where I once saw beauty. Death where there was life. I also love you because I’ve always loved you. Wake up and see this for what it is.

I know Emily too! Sucks that you have a weak stomach, can’t tell ya how hard it is watching a blue tarp. I don’t forgive her either, mostly because she didn’t apologize and the rest because she didn’t do anything wrong. Enjoy forcing your beliefs on people, though! How very Christian :)
Hi Em! Good to see you’re doing well! Hope you’re feeling well!

I’m not actually a X-tian Max. I am not even on the political side of the pro-life movement. This video is arrogant. There’s no getting around that. If you’re consciously uncoupled from reality, enough to not see the moral midgetry in the making and tone of her presentation, then my heart breaks for you, as well.

Also, I guess I don’t. There’s no sanctity of life so why burden oneself with a child (not to mention the unwanted child’s burden)? Besides, maybe “arrogance” is necessary to demonstrate that women shouldn’t be shamed for decisions that only affect themselves. The entire point is to show that there’s such a thing as a positive experience, not the endless depression angle that’s always presented.
