Pro-life vid of the day: Human placenta project underway
by Hans Johnson
Most human organs are absolutely vital to our health and well-being. Even those we once considered to be vestigial have turned out to have a use we just didn’t understand before. But there’s one organ that is temporary – here and gone in less than a year.
The National Institutes of Health is funding The Human Placenta Project with $41.5 million to study this essential life-nurturing organ in everyone’s first cradle.
Let’s hope that the more is learned, the more respect there is for the purpose of these miraculous organs. That we don’t lose sight of the “forest” of babies because of these placental “trees”.

One of the Doc’s is Alan Guttmacher. I wonder if he is related to THE Alan Guttmacher/Planned Parenthood.
I wondered the same thing.
I have read more and more about how quick we are to cut the cord after birth when we should be waiting and letting the placenta continue to do its job as the blood continues to pump and the cord keeps pulsing. So many things I would have done differently. :)
He’s the nephew of Alan (Frank) Guttmacher. Although he’s related, he’s not affiliated with Planned Parenthood or the Guttmacher Institute and doesn’t advocate for legalized abortion.
I dearly hope this research will shed some light on pregnancy diseases like preeclampsia, which I’ve suffered twice (my baby boy was born 9 weeks early because of it and is likely to stay in the NICU another few weeks still). My OB told me the causes of pre-e are unknown, but it seems to be related to placental hormones. Countless women and babies can be helped by learning more about this awful, scary, dangerous, potentially fatal disease!
