Quote of the Day 10-12-10
… They oppose abortion, and their staff members try their hardest to talk women out of having one, even if that means, according to Planned Parenthood of NYC, showing them graphic images and telling them that “God will never forgive you.”
… Christine C. Quinn, the City Council speaker, and Councilwoman Jessica S. Lappin, Democrat of Manhattan, are proposing legislation that would require the stance of these crisis pregnancy centers to be clear to all women who visit them — either intentionally, or by accident while seeking a Planned Parenthood clinic across the street, or because the word “abortion” loomed much larger to them on that subway sign than the word “alternative.”
~Pro-abort Susan Dominus, lauding the efforts of NYC to force pregnancy centers to post signage stating they do “not provide abortions or contraceptives approved by the Food and Drug Administration,” or “referrals for those options,” NY Times, October 11

“God will never forgive you”?
Sheeesh!
I’ve NEVER heard that from a CPC volunteer or a sidewalk counselor. If any, Rachel’s Vineyard will help them deal with their silent pain, and learn to forgive themselves and accept God’s forgiveness…
Yes, God forgives! His love is everlasting!
Pro-aborts like her seem to LOVE abortion so much that they’ll do anything THEY can to push one on a woman. Even if that means completely LYING…about everything. CPC volunteers have NEVER told a woman that “God will never forgive you”, and she knows it(I ought to know, I used to be a CPC counselor!) God doesn’t think too fondly of LIARS, Ms. Dominus.
I volunteered in a CPC and never heard anyone say “God will never forgive you.” That is an utter lie. All I ever heard was “Your baby has fingers and toes (true). Your baby is a living, unique child (true.) We will help you with housing and a crib and clothes and formula and diapes (true). If you ever need to talk you can call me ANYTIME (true).” All I ever heard was loving truth. Never judgment. Never anger. Just love and support.
Women like that are betrayers and liars. 20 years ago, all I heard was that if only we would provide HELP to women…blah blah blah. Now they do all they can to thwart women who prefer to give birth but find themselves in a difficult situation. They are so not pro-choice, but ONLY pro-abortion. God is very forgiving, but if you keep your face turned away and work as hard as you can to kill his children, don’t blame him for your exile.
“I volunteered in a CPC and never heard anyone say “God will never forgive you.” That is an utter lie”
Oh, but Sydney, it’s SUCH a great straw man!
God will never forgive you?
I doubt that such a saying is common among CPC volunteers. I’m fine with signs that say that they don’t offer abortions. That’s fine- people know what CPCs are for, and if they want to use one, they will use one. I do wish that they offered birth control, but that’s beside the point. So, let’s say that some volunteer really did say that God would never forgive a woman who had an abortion- then we all agree that said volunteer needs to be fired (or…whatever the proper term is if you’re a volunteer). Pronto.
Ideally, volunteers are a balance of compassionate and straightforward. I have pictured the ideal CPC in my head (yeah, one of these days, when I’m a billionaire, I’ll set this up- because I’ve genuinely given this a great deal of thought):
A nice, clean place with several rooms- I’m thinking a house that we can remodel.
-A room with an ultrasound.
-An extra room with beds; unfortunately, some teenagers might not be welcome home or some women might need a place to stay; the doors of a CPC should be always open.
-A room with toys, games, books, and a television which can serve as a place for children, either while their mother is at her appointment or if the mother is still going to school or working or whatever.
-Adoption referrals and detailed information on the realities of adoption as well as the different kinds of adoption. Aside from adoption referrals, there should also be plenty of
-Information on healthcare, local hospitals, schools, and whatever an expecting parent might need to know.
-An extra storage room for cribs, maternity clothes, diapers, bottles, and so on and so forth.
-A large book full of job offers as well as a rundown of what the employer is looking for and what kind of benefits are being offered; then, a second book on local colleges and universities and what sort of programs that they offer.
-A therapy office (with nice library!).
-Therapy dogs! This might be a better idea in my head…
-Nice gardens and a yard. This is why I thought that a house would make a good setting for my Dream CPC; also, houses have a warmer atmosphere.
-Things that get the CPC involved with the community, whether it’s movie night, nights out bowling or to concerts, or whatever- things that keep in mind that all people want to have fun, and that being pregnant isn’t about giving up your riends and your life. You can still go out and you have friends at the CPC who aren’t just “charity,” they’re friends.
-Posters with positive slogans and empowering messages.
-Trained and certified employees. Duh.
-An art room.
Okay, so that’s my Dream CPC. Back to the Quote of the Day… :D
showing them graphic images
Oh my — we just can’t have that, can we? God forbid that any woman should actually see her live baby moving in her womb or see what abortion really means! (as Dr. Nathanson did when ultrasound showed him the horrible distress the baby endured during abortion) SIGH
For those whose livelihood depends on lies, the truth is a terrible thing.
For those who live in reality, the truth is a precious thing.
I’m perfectly fine with CPC’s posting the following sign:
“In this facility we have no instruments or drugs that kill babies.”
and Planned Parenthood and all the “women’s” clinics could post signs:
“Every woman is who wants a dead baby will be accommodated.”
In case you didn’t notice, the straw man quote of “God will never forgive you,” wasn’t given to the article’s author by anyone at a CPC nor from a CPC client, but from Planned Parenthood. Surely they were being truthful, no?
I have NEVER heard of a CPC saying “God will never forgive you.” What a load of huey (and I don’t mean Huey Lewis).
Planned Parenthood whines on their website how much pro-lifers “lie” about them, yet they turn around and lie about us. They make outrageous claims. (Yes, I’ve been on the Planned Parenthood website–I did that to know what they were saying–I wouldn’t call them the fountain of accuracy).
Wow, they lie about EVERYTHING, don’t they? Absolutely everything.
This Times article underscores a serious problem with these so-called “crisis pregnancy centers”. They have innocuous sounding names and are extremely evasive about the nature of what they actually do. A pregnant woman could be duped into taking bad or even dishonest medical “advice” or counseling from the staff that operate the centers, none of whom are actual doctors or trained counselors, but rather ideologically motivated “volunteers” the likes of which come here to vent. I think it’s completely reasonable to require “crisis pregnancy centers” to be forward and direct about what “services” they offer, what their credentials for offering these “services” are, and most importantly, what services they don’t offer, so that a woman seeking legitimate family planning information does not get misled by an organization that is not what it seems.
CPCs operate the same way now that they did several years ago. The author of this article is pro-abortion and extremely biased. If you read the entire article, it’s painfully obvious she has an agenda and she hasn’t done her research. The fact that she took Planned Parenthood’s word for it that CPCs are deceptive is just… shoddy journalism, to say the VERY least.
CPCs are primarily social service centers. When my CPC used to get phone calls, very few people asked “Do you do abortions?” But if they did ask, the response was, “No, we give out information on typical procedures and possible risks, and information on fetal development. Would you care to make an appointment?” There was no sleight of hand. There was no restraining of women. I had women thank me, walk out, and abort. I had other women thank me and choose life. Those who chose to abort were not harassed. Those who chose life were offered help in whatever form they needed it. All for free. Many CPCs also have doctors or nurses or trained ultrasound technicians on staff as well, so to say none of the people are medical professionals is simply wrong. Some are social service workers, some are educators, and some are volunteer counselors who have gone through hours of proper crisis intervention training. There was and should be no evasiveness. It’s not necessary.
And frankly, I think if CPCs are forced to put up signage, it could backfire. I don’t think CPCs will see a decrease in clients, I really don’t. Most women who go there want information on all the options and moral support. They don’t always need someone who has a financial interest at stake to tell them “you shouldn’t have this baby.” Many, many young women who come to CPCs already KNOW they can have an abortion and they know where to look in the phone book, online, or which friends to ask.
And even though those of us here who actually have operated CPCs or volunteer at them can tell you these things FIRST HAND till we’re blue in the face, pro-aborts just won’t believe it. I don’t know why I’m wasting my time with a response, but it just really burns me up when people claim these centers are deceptive. It’s just not true, and if any centers ARE engaging in any unethical practices, then they, along with Planned Parenthood with all of THEIR scandal, should be shut down.
A pregnant woman could be duped into taking bad or even dishonest medical “advice” or counseling from the staff that operate the centers, none of whom are actual doctors or trained counselors, but rather ideologically motivated “volunteers
Joan,
How many CPCs have you been to? How many of their websites? Do you honestly know for a fact that they never have a doctor on hand or ever suggest medical care?
Foundation For Life has had a medical doctor donate his time. They also had people who were trained to operate ultrasound machines working for them. There’s been women who have come to the dinners thanking those there for helping them out with counseling, classes, medical help, and helping them get on their feet so they could provide for their child.
I know doctors who are Natural Family Planning (NFP) trained so they can read NFP charts and offer medical advice.
NFP charting was one of the things that helped someone I know get breast cancer help before it was very far along. The doc that diagnosed her said they didn’t usually see women in such early stages of the breast cancer–that normally when women realize something’s wrong the cancer has progressed further. This woman has been in remission from breast cancer for years because of NFP helping her know there was a problem EARLIER than she would’ve found out without it.
Abortion certainly is not necessary to help women as proven by the above, there ARE alternatives–which is why many CPCs are listed under “Abortion Alternatives”.
P.S. I have been on the Planned Parenthood website, so I do know what they say and the majority of it is lies or at the very least half-truths.
