Stanek weekend video: Boy apologizes for father’s crime
by Hans Johnson

Many a youth has brought shame and embarrassment to their family for their misdeeds. But often it’s the reverse.
As muggings go, you can’t get much lower than violently yanking the handbag from the shoulder of Tona Herndon, 78, of Edmond, Oklahoma. She had been visiting the gravesite of her husband of 60 years as she had every day since he passed away two weeks before. Gone was $700 in cash, credit cards, and all her personal information.
The man was soon arrested, and was recognized in a news report by his son, fifteen-year-old Christian Lunsford. His father, to whom he had barely spoken since his parents’ divorce, had recently given him $250 so he could attend band camp.
Christian called Mrs. Herndon and set up a meeting at a church parking lot. Here, from CBS, is what happened next:

It was refreshing for me to see the video of this fifteen year old boy apologizing and attempting to make amends to an elderly widow who had been mugged and robbed by the boy’s irresponsible father. There is so much depressing news in this fallen world. Earlier today I had read an article of the growing movement, especially among elements of the homosexual movement, to eliminate the legal and moral restraints on the practice of pederasty in particular and pedophilia in general. Another article gave an account of a pro-abortion mob in Australia not only shouting down and interfering with a pro-life march, but even physically assaulting some of the pro-life participants while the police merely stood aside.
We are in a great spiritual, moral and political battle against evil. We need to be good and dedicated on all fronts.
Wow, I’m impressed
Awesome!
Not all sons of criminal fathers become criminals, although I have no data on the percentages. I think a small number turn out okay. It is a matter of God’s grace and mercy, and maybe the mothers have some influence, too.
Plenty of boys from bad families can grow up to be upstanding citizens, it’s just more difficult and the statistics are more grim than those of children from stable homes, but it’s not impossible. Even if they have rough patches in their teens they can grow out of it.
“maybe the mothers have some influence, too”
Gee, ya think?
Edmond is on the local news here A LOT. I missed this story somehow, but I’m glad to hear of something GOOD happening there for a change ! :)
God bless this young man!!
What a nice kid!
Although this kid had nothing to apologize for he is a compassionate awesome young man and felt he had to do something. What a neat gesture from him and the elderly lady to give the money back to him. What a jerk for a father. I believe his mom must be someone special like my late mother in law. Now that was an awesome lady. She couldn’t teach my husband how to be a man but she had him around great male role models to help her. She knew she needed some strong, solid, mature, responsible men in my husband’s life since half the time they did not know where her ex was. God will provide for single mothers. She prayed for and with her children, took them to church when she could if she was not working or sent them with relatives and neighbors (many times she worked 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet). God bless this young man and his mother.
