Quote of the Day 2-16-11
“With the economy, joblessness and eight million wars that we’re fighting, it seems very odd for Republicans to take over Congress and begin attacking women’s rights.”
~ Actress Lisa Edelstein, who plays the role of a nervous woman walking to what seems to be an abortion clinic for a MoveOn.org ad, Politico, February 15

Maybe they are actually related. Considering the numbers of lives lost to abortion, this does affect the economy and joblessness, as we have lost the resource of human beings necessary for the work force and for creating industries. Fewer people actually is not the solution for countries that have a capitalistic economy.
And the violence done within the womb actually is the seed of the violence done without the womb. As Mother Teresa says, if a mother can kill her own child, what is to stop the rest of us from killing each other.
Looks like she was upset because someone got into her closet and stole all of her clothes.
Prax- LOL! I was thinking that the source of Lisa’s annoyance had to be that her makeup artist thought she was auditioning to be a raccoon in Over the Hedge II.
BTW- how exactly did the Repubs “take over” congress? I recall news of an election- I don’t remember any mention of a coup.
I don’t necessarily agree that more people automatically equals jobs: we have a lot of people that need jobs, and no jobs. Just outlawing abortion does not equal a strong economy. Maybe it has an effect though.
I kind of liked her on “House”, but like so many Hollywood women, she does not have it together philosophically.
Eight million wars?
Who knew?
Ugh, so glad I stopped watching House ages ago…
But it was oaky for the Democrats not to focus on jobs or the economy?
Ugh, so glad I stopped watching House ages ago…
I quit watching it not long after House convinced a woman who had been raped, was pregnant, and wanted to keep the baby that she should have an abortion. Clearly House isn’t intended to be some paragon of moral virtue, but that was just so disgustingly wrong that I couldn’t enjoy the show after that.
With all her money, she should buy clothes and compassion for babies.
Why are Hollywood types so trashy? We nearly quit watching tv entirely.
Ha! I agree about her eye makeup. Going for the vermin look obviously.
Marauder, That’s when I stopped watching, too, actually.
In response, perhaps the backalley abortions were actually safer as the abortionist didn´t want to get caught! Now abortions doctors can flaunt the law in in order to ensure “access”. Besides illegal abortion doctors in the 70s simply became legal abortion doctors when it was legalized
@Carla: Inorite? I can think of…two, off-hand. Maybe three. The other seven million, nine-hundred-ninety-nine thousand, nine-hundred-ninety-seven escape me at the moment.
Alice,
:)
I believe in women’s rights. Every woman has a right to be born!!
With all her money, she should buy clothes and compassion for babies.

mama3, I agree. There’s a few shows I like, such as “Jeopardy” and some programs on Animal Planet, but that’s about it. And when my daughter is at home we like to watch those silly Lifetime movies. They’re one of my guilty pleasures!
I used to watch “Criminal Minds” but the violence against women on the show is starting to bother me. I also like reruns of “The Nanny”. I’m sure Fran Drescher is pro-abort, but I like her anyway.

Meh, I’m not surprised. The actor that plays House, Hugh Laurie, is a hard-core atheist and most of them are also hard core pro-abortion. I can’t stand that fake American accent of his!
I never heard of this actress, but she looks a little like a dude.
A couple thoughts from Randy Alcorn. ProLife Answers to ProChoice Arguments.
For decades prior to legalization 90% of abortions were done by physicians in their offices, NOT in back alleys.
It is not true that tens of thousands of women were dying from illegal abortions before abortion was legalized.
Women still die from legal abortions in America.
If abortion became illegal, abortions would be done with medical equipment, not clothes hangers. (!!)
The central horror of illegal abortion remains the central horror of legal abortion.
Ever notice that whenever “women’s rights” are referenced, they’re really talking STRICTLY about abortion? It has nothing to do with women’s rights to vote, drive cars, receive an education, apply for any job they wish, obtain their own financial credit, right to divorce and possibly gain custody of their children, etc, etc. And when countries that do NOT actually allow ANY of these things for women come into the spotlight, do we hear anything from these so-called “women’s rights” advocates?
Nope. Crickets. What a bunch of complete frauds they are.
well, maybe she’s going for the goth-relevancy look. although, all the goths I know are hardcore conservative catholic….
maybe she’s trying to look like she’s from Philadelphia? vampire of the infants?
oh- if you like tv- try usa! for real! positive, happy, good shows.
The actor that plays House, Hugh Laurie, is a hard-core atheist and most of them are also hard core pro-abortion.
Is his atheism a fairly recent development? Because I know Stephen Fry is the godfather of Hugh Laurie’s kids…maybe it’s more as an honorary title. My mom and I love watching them on our set of the complete “Jeeves & Wooster”.
I wouldn’t necessarily come to the conclusion that Hugh Laurie is “hard core pro-abortion,” even if he is an atheist. I hope he’s not, anyway.
I also like reruns of “The Nanny”. I’m sure Fran Drescher is pro-abort, but I like her anyway.
Oh Mistah Sheffield! :)
Just because we don’t agree with someone’s morals or politics, do we have to attack their appearance? I’m probably wearing more eye make-up right now than she is….OUCH!
Funny how they didn’t mention the word abortion in their lying little ad. Why send women back to back alley abortionists when those very same abortionists can now put the signs on the front doors of their killing clinics. Abortion is still unsafe. It’s the least regulated of all medical procedures. The pro-aborts just don’t want women to know it.
Just because we don’t agree with someone’s morals or politics, do we have to attack their appearance?
Good point. What she looks like is irrelevent to what she’s saying.
Why do people listen to actors anyway? They don’t live in the real world; they are the most self-centered people in existence, and most of them aren’t educated.
Yeah, they need to stop saying “Women’s rights” as a smoke screen…..Just say “abortion” if you mean “abortion.” Oh, people don’t LIKE that? Gee that’s too bad.
So… are they finally admitting that our tax dollars ARE, in fact, going to fund abortions? Sounds like it.
@Maurauder – here is an article which mentions he is an atheist, but it doesn’t say when he became one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Laurie
@Kel – not only has the term women’s rights been hijacked to just mean “abortion”, but “reproductive rights” means the same thing. What about the right to REPRODUCE – to have good prenatal care and healthy babies, to be free from coerced abortions or contraceptives?
Speaking of celebrities, Justin Bieber is prolife! Not that I’m a fan of his, but it’s nice that he comes out and says it:
He isn’t sure what political party he’d support if he was old enough to vote. “I’m not sure about the parties,” Bieber says. “But whatever they have in Korea, that’s bad.” He does have a solid opinion on abortion. “I really don’t believe in abortion,” Bieber says. “It’s like killing a baby?” How about in cases of rape? “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.”
Just a small point that she is not the woman appearing to walk to the closet. That women is wearing an evening gown with no sleeves. The lady who opens the door and shows her face to be the actress is wearing long sleeve sweater so they took a clip of her out of the program. I watched House a few times and it is mildly entertaining but of course he is clearly pro abort and everyone sleeps around on there so what else is new here.

I guess I’m a prude but i get tired of shows/books with promiscuous characters. That’s why I could never get into the Stieg Larson books — the main characters are pretty amoral, especially Lisbeth Salander. I guess I’m just a stereotypical uptight American, but I don’t feel comfortable with that sort of thing. I have a German friend who says Europeans laugh at Americans and their attitudes toward public nudity, but I’ll keep my top on, thank you!
Brain damage….
I’m with you, phillymiss. That’s what I hear too, about what Europeans think of our ‘prudish’ attitudes. Frankly, I don’t really CARE what Europeans think of me…I’m not IN Europe. ;)
Why do I make the mistake of reading the comments at HuffPo? The commenters are FRIGHTENING! “It’s about CHOICE! It’s about MY BODY! I LOVE LISA EDELSTEIN EVEN MORE! ME! ME ME ME ME! It’s what I WANT TO DO! CHOICE! CHOICE! ZYGOTE! CHOICE!”
If anyone dissents, they are absolutely crucified. No actual dialogue going on there. Just straw man arguments (natch) and slogans. Do they not realize that the “coat hanger” argument was invalid, and that the number of women who died from illegal abortion was fabricated? Do they not want to isolate the CAUSES, the reasons women seek abortion? Are they so myopic and proud that they can’t understand that all life is precious? What about the child’s bodily autonomy? Since when is pregnancy a disease? Since when are unborn babies our enemies?
Whenever I hear about an abortion ban violating women’s rights, I think about Gianna Jessen, survivor of a saline abortion.
“If abortion is merely about women’s rights, then what were mine? There was not a radical feminist, standing up and yelling about how my rights had been violated that day. In fact my life was being snuffed out in the name of women’s rights.”
Europe is in population winter, so fat lot of good their permissiveness has done.
The human body is an awesome and beautiful creation. But pro-choicers think that if you want to treat your body with respect then you’re uptight and hate sex. Ya, ya, sure..
Mary Lee, you’re so funny! They love to shorten everything (including babies’ lives, natch). Sometimes I read their older-than-dinosaur-droppings rhetoric and say to myself, “Whatevs.” It can be very discouraging, but then I remind myself: a loaf of bread is not made out of yeast: it only needs just enough yeast to rise. We don’t have to convince every pro-choicer out there, just enough to tip the scales to make abortion illegal again. I’ll see their coat hanger, and raise them a pair of Kermit Gosnell’s scissors.
LOL Thanks, Ninek!
On HuffPo, the pro-aborts have actually said they believe that all pro-life women have Stockholm Syndrome. I’m sorry, WHAAAA???? EXCUSE ME?
Did anyone watch the video? “Only decades ago….women suffered through back alley abortions” blah blah blah. Women “suffered” them? Gee, why did they seek them out, decades ago? Hey, I absolutely LOVE that Steinem & Co. said “We don’t need husbands and daddies to give us permission to work and have our own checking account”—that was needed. But ABORTION is incredibly anti-feminist, and the more I study this issue, the more confounded I am by the pro-abort “rationale” (if you will…*ahem*)…..They keep saying “We’re not pro-ABORTION, we are pro-CHOICE” and “women died” and things like that. Women are STILL DYING! They don’t give a crap about that. They don’t care about Gosnell and his sickening “practice.” They make up excuses. They ignore logic, they ignore science. They obviously don’t understand that women sought abortions because they were STIGMATIZED for being unwed mothers. We don’t live in that world. We have more resources to help women NOT get pregnant, and to help those women who are pregnant NOT abort. We don’t have the right to be pregnant or not be pregnant when we “choose.” It’s not a right, it’s a privilege. Children are not things to be gotten, like handbags or promotions. They are PEOPLE, who have their own bodily autonomy and their own right to exist.
It doesn’t surprise me that PP and Hollywood are BFFs. When was the last time your heard about a celebrity actually getting his or her hands dirty? (Except Angelina….Um, I really love her)……They have their mansions and SUVs, they have their personal theaters, and personal chefs and trainers, they tell us how to spend our money and how to vote….And HuffPo readers fall for it, and claim that anyone who disagrees is blind. They sound like sheep to me, even more than the religious pro-lifers–even if I bristle at religious pro-life arguments, I can safely say that at least the religious pro-lifers have joy and positivity (for the most part, forgive me). Pro-aborts are just ANGRY all the time.
Oh and I’m sorry if I offended anyone with the”sheep” comment…..For one, I was responding to the liberal HuffPo commenters saying we are all sheep….and for another, I am hopped up on dayquil.
It’s so sad when smart women fall for the pro-abort lies. Here’s proof that statistics were fabricated:
Dr. Bernard Nathanson, cofounder of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), who helped legitimize the claim that 10,000 women were dying each year from illegal abortions admitted years ago that the number was completely fabricated for PR purposes. He writes in his exposé Aborting America (193):
HuffPo also has an article up about Irish women who are not able to get abortions because they cannot afford them. Funny though, how you never hear about these Irish women dying from back-alley abortions.
Once again, we have a self absorbed egomaniacal Stollywod Harlot making a plea for the right to kill babies. These people make my skin crawl.
If i never watch tv or go to a movie again, it wouldn’t bother me in the least.
A metal hanger – do they even MAKE metal hangers anymore?
Cuz we all know that is why we women have hangers in our closets – just in case.
I’d like to see the commercial remade showing flashbacks or flashes of mangled aborted babies.
Just so we all know WHAT women are choosing…..
Why do people listen to actors anyway? They don’t live in the real world; they are the most self-centered people in existence, and most of them aren’t educated.
Because they’re on TV, basically. And we see them all the time on various screens, so it’s kinda like we actually know them, right? So their opinions should matter to us. </snark> Yeah, it’s definitely frustrating, and some of them absolutely are pushing dangerous agendas. I don’t get it, but then again I also don’t get tabloids or teenage crushes on boy idols.
Although, hearteningly, Justin Bieber (teenage crush and boy idol) did recently come out and say that he was PRO LIFE!! Finally — a teen idol who just may turn out to be more of a man than we all thought… :)

Attacking women’s rights? Really? What rights are they attacking besides the “right” to kill your unborn child? when you really think about it, what is the pro-life party forcing women to do.
To not have sex freely? No, no one is saying don’t have an active sex life just to be careful and safe about it so these kind of problems won’t happen in the first place.
To not save their lives? If there is any risk of a woman’s life during a pregnancy they have the right to save themselves with whatever surgery or operation they need. If the fetus dies in the process that is unfortunate and sad but it is not killing because the daeth was unintended, the goal was to save the mother and women do have a right to save their lives.
To raise children? Women don’t have to raise their children they can put them up for adoption, I know they may end up in an orphanage for a while but at least they will be alive. That’s a better fate.
To go into back-alleys? I’m pretty sure no one can make a woman go into back alleys that would be there choice. Even when abortions were illegal, they were usually done by physicians, not in alleys with coathangers. They can always bring their child to term or abstain from sex until they are ready for a child, there are options besides killing your child.
I don’t mean to sound cold here, I understand that having a baby can be a scary thing and society needs to help women get through these difficult problems. The pro-life side will do anything to help these women as long as it doesn’t hurt the unborn. Women’s rights are protected, but sorry, killing is not a right.
Why is it that so many act like an abortion is a medical nessity,Im sure some are dangerous but with medicine like we have only a minut few babies HAVE to die,,,STOP lieing for your own selfish agendy,,thats what I see in this video a selfish woman unwilling to be responsible for her actions. Please dont get me wrong I know women are abused but is killing a babie the answer ??
