Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman
Every now and then I go totally off-topic, like when I covered out-of-sorts Britney at the MTV awards in 2007.
Well here’s another off-topic post about an out-of-sorts celebrity. Did you see Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman the other night? He came on to promote today’s release of the movie Two Lovers but was obviously not himself….
Speculation is Phoenix was either high on something or continuing a now long punk of us all that he has quit acting for hip hop. I think it was clearly the former, which is too bad. Here’s a clip of the last time Phoenix came on Letterman, 3 years ago….
I hope something good comes out of Phoenix’s Letterman appearance, like intervention.

I have NO idea which it might be, but I noticed the mumbling slur in his voice right away. And the dark sunglasses…well, I’ve been around people who are strung out before, and he fits the bill.
If it’s just a really good acting job, then great. If not, I just hope he doesn’t end up like his late, very talented brother, River.
If nothing else, Letterman is really, really good. He was able to make an entertaining interview out of that and keep it going, despite the circumstances.
Obama has had a few turndowns for Commerce Secretary.
I don’t think this one would have enough smarts to know what he was turning down.
Things seem to go better when letterman figgured out it was a monologue. The guy was missing totally.
That was so painful to watch and so sad. Joaquin Phoenix is super-talented and I hate seeing him possibly throwing his life away on drugs, especially given that he lost his brother to an overdose. I am really bummed out by this.
Have you seen the videos of his “rapping”? I really think that this is some sort of viral advertising for his next unannounced movie.
Sad.
It looks like more than anything he is playing a character.
On this sire he is being compared to Jim Morrison. Take a look for yourself. lol
I wondered if it was for real or some crazy hoax. In any case I agree that Letterman handled it really well.
It would be crazy for him to even think of touching drugs considering what happened to his brother.
It looked like an act to me. Especially when Letterman made him laugh and it took him out of character.
First impression:
An impersonation of the enigmatic John Lennon.
Maybe that is his next movie.
yor bro ken
poor Joaquin Phoenix, he seemed to trying really hard to re-invent his image and was coming across as just awkward

I certainly think something like this was afoot.

His brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, just happened to start doing a documentary on him right when this behavior started.
