Sunday funny
No political cartoons on our issue this week, but there was a particularly funny incident involving White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ interpretation of VP Joe Biden’s panicked advice on The Today Show to avoid “confined spaces” in light of the potential Swine Flu pandemic, ticking off examples of airplanes, cars, classrooms, and subway trains.
by Mike Luckovich of the Atlantic Journal Constitution…

Now here is what Biden said, followed by Gibbs’ interpretation, which got a calling out from the reporter asking about it and a guffaw from the press core…

Now we need someone to volunteer what Gibbs meant to say. Gibbs meant to say, we tell people what they want to hear or what we want them to hear. we can do it in front of the media and listen to them howl in laughter.
Gibbs meant to say we can change what someone was recording as saying anythime we want.
I love it when the reporter says “umm, with all due respect, that’s not even close to what the vice president said…”
hahah :)
I prefer Joe Biden’s harmless gaffes over 8 years of lies by Bush and Cheney that cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and trillions of dollars.
And I perfer Governor Palin’s homilies to all the snide personal attacks made on her by the same MSM that now winks and looks the other way when Joe trips on his tongue.
Doyle, since you brought the subject up, there is an excellent comment on the Anchorage Daily News website by Paul Jenkins about Palin’s use of the Alaska official websites for “snide personal attacks” against her former supposed “son in law”, and the “anonymous bloggers” she despises, titled “Governor Should Rise Above the Fray”.
Well vpjb is good for comic relief and GOD knows we need some comic relief.
Whitehouse spokesweasle Gibbs to assembled press corps, “Are you going to believe me or your lyin’ eyes.?”

From the laughing response of the press corps to Spokesweasel Gibbs’ remarks, is sounds like they appreciated the levity.

I really like the Gibb’s caricature! He looks like a cone-head.

Bystander,
As a natural born United States Citizen who is
pro-life,
pro second ammendment,
pro border control,
at least ambivalent about equating heterosexual marriage with homosexual marriage,
and though not a present or former member of the military, but a former member of a paramilitary organization that prohibits homosexuals from leadership positions (aka, Boy Scouts of America)
who has been identified by the Department of Homeland Security as ‘right wing extremist’ and possible ‘terrorist’, which by the way just co-incidentally includes nearly everyone who did NOT vote for phho,
you will have to excuse me if I put Sarah Palin pretty far down on my threat list.
If I do not mess with her kids or her father, mother, or sister, then I believe I am not at risk of her saying ‘nasty things’ about me or sending the Alaskan Department of Public Safety to ‘spy’ on me.
Still clinging to my GOD and my guns

Bystander, what I’m trying to figure out is why do you think that an op-ed by a liberal columnist rises to the level of something anyone should care about?
I much prefer the exuberance of Biden over the lies of Bush. Remember when Bush told us that we would be greeted as liberators? Remember when Bush told us that we did not torture? You can fall back on the humorous headlines about Biden but it does nothing to erase the stain of criminality from conservatives.
PS: anyone looking for more political laughs should google “Michelle Bachmann” on Youtube. She’s quite the comic genius.
President Bush never lied. Also, I quote this excerpt from the same May 1 interview as the Sunday quote, Joy Behar interviewing Ann Coulter on Larry King Live:
BEHAR: The thing about it is the jury is out on everything you’re saying right now. We don’t really know what’s going to happen. What we do know is that the Bush administration did torture a few people and Obama…
COULTER: They did not.
BEHAR: Obama declared very clearly at his press conference the other night that waterboarding is — is torture.
Now, who are you with, Obama or Dick Cheney, on this?
COULTER: I am with all normal people who have — who have ever had an older sibling, who have been through a fraternity hazing, who have been on a sports team or who have misbehaved as small children. Nothing we did is in the same universe as torture.
And as I wrote about in my column this week — I mean my favorite torture was putting a caterpillar in one of the terrorist’s cells. I don’t think — I don’t even know if that was ever actually done…
YLT,
Would gaffes like this from John McCain or Sarah Palin been praised as “exuberance”? Fat chance.
They would have been ridiculed in the MSM and pointed out as “proof” of their unfitness to hold office. Typical double standard.
Concerning “torture”. Some of our own troops get waterboarded as part of their training.
Real torture is getting your head sliced off with a dull knife while you scream in terror and agony. Or having acid thrown in your face because you’re a female who dares attend school.
You know what terrorists think of those who wring their hands over waterboarding and other forms of “torture”? They laugh themselves stupid at us, as well as marvel at their incredible good fortune that we have a president so ready and willing to put our national security at risk by informing terrorists of our methods of extracting information.
In the meantime, they’ll just continue slicing off heads and tossing acid into the faces of schoolgirls.
YLT,
Michelle Bachmann? So what’s wrong with a little exuberance YLT?
Mary “in the meantime, they’ll just continue slicing off heads and tossing acid into the faces of school girls.”
Probably. But at least we don’t have to become them. We should be better than than our enemies.
Kat, did President Bush slice off heads and toss acid into the faces of school girls? Did American soldiers or prison wardens ever do so? Please get a sense of proportion!
I don’t know whether you’re “pro-choice” or pro-life, but if you’re “pro-choice,” then you need to consider Anne Coulter’s recent remark. Many of the liberals who loudly condemn water-boarding are the same people who would allow a mother (or her abortionist) to slice of the head of her child or douse the child in some acid-like chemical. While some of our own troops have experienced water-boarding, none of them have ever been decapitated or chemically assaulted by mothers. (Or is there a Gianna Jenssen among them?)
Kat,
Oh please. We slice off heads and throw acid in their faces? Not even close. We waterboard some of our own troops as part their training.
Maybe our advanced interrogation methods will prevent some from slicing off heads and tossing acid.
We should be better than our enemies? You mean our enemies should be laughing at us, because that’s what they will do when we wring our hands and try to be nice. No, we should make our enemies fear and respect us and do what is necessary to protect ourselves from them.
What is the quote? Teddy Roosevelt — “Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
Apparently Obama’s version is “Speak loudly in denunciation of your own country and throw it to the wolves while pretending to protect the country by giving terrorists lives safer and more comfortable than what they had in their own country”
“No, we should make our enemies fear and respect us and do what is necessary to protect ourselves from them. ”

I agree Mary…in a post-911 era, this is, unfortunately, the only way we can survive.
Aside from the fact that Obama knows nothing about OPSEC and has no military background whatsoever..his foreign policy seems to be to diss the entire US in the global arena and smooch the enemy’s rear-end and take lots of photo-ops until they can come to an agreement.
ould gaffes like this from John McCain or Sarah Palin been praised as “exuberance”? Fat chance.
They would have been ridiculed in the MSM and pointed out as “proof” of their unfitness to hold office. Typical double standard.
You mean “hero” John McCain the failed fighter pilot that crashed his jet multiple times? You mean Sarah Palin who is so busy trying to mug for the cameras that she negelects her gubinatorial duties.
Biden has done neither. Palin is mocked because she is utterly out of her league – in parenting and in governing. I’m sorry your comparison is laughable – palin brought it all on herself.
Hey RSD – How many wars have you fought in? How may have you sent your children or grandchildren off to fight in? Your armchair games of Battleship are all fun and games but I doubt you’ve got the stones to fight in an actual war. Then again, I’m not one to blame you, since WWII we’ve not really had a morally just war to fight in. Still your bravado is about as convincing as putting a pair of Trucknutz in your pants and calling yourself a man.
YLT 1:28am
Please answer the question I asked.
YLT 1:32am
Did you fight in WW2? What gives you any right to suggest that was a morally just war?
I remember when Dan Quayle was the Republican candidate for VP. He had served in the National Guard during Vietnam and the media hounded him mercilessly for his “cowardice”.
However when Democrat Bill Clinton ran for the presidency, the fact he had absolutely NO military service, and may have even dodged the draft during Vietnam, was totally irrelevant.
No, there’s no double standard in the media at all!
RSD 11:24am
Excellent post. Our fearless leader still has to learn that kissing the backsides of tyrants doesn’t earn their respect, as he found out when Castro gave him the finger. Imagine Castro saying he won’t release political prisoners!
Tyrants and terrorists only laugh at your efforts to be nice to them, and marvel at their good fortune that an American president is so willing, as well as stupid enough, to give them such valuable information as interrogation techniques.

Mary – Contrary to what you think, I’m not obligated nor forced to answer belligerently asked questions.
Of course not, YLT! We’re pro-choice about inquisitions. If you don’t want one, don’t have one.
