Lunch Break: Perfection! Torvill & Dean
by LauraLoo
The quintessential ice dance from the 1984 Olympics. The only ones to score straight 6.0’s for artistic impression from all the judges. The legendary Torvill & Dean, ice dancing to “Bolero” where they won gold.

I remember the 1980 Olympics when I was teaching ice skating and everyone wanted to jump on the ice dancing bandwagon. Torvill and Dean have been an inspiration for everyone who just wanted to put on a pair of skates and have fun. (Of course, that was also the year of the incredible US hockey victory!) In 1984, Torvill and Dean ruled in ice dancing. Looking back, we had Scott Hamilton coming into his own then, too. What a wonderful time for skating!
LL, thanks for posting this! It was a beautiful performance, and I love that song.
Well I don’t remember the skating but I love classical music and I love Ravel!
Check out the link on youtube for a performance some 20 years later. They didn’t lose a step - or skatestroke. :)
beautiful!
