Former Celtics coach Rick Pitino told police he had sex with and paid for an abortion for the woman accused of trying to extort him for $10 million, the Courier-Journal of Louisville (Ky.) reported on its website last night. Pitino, the Louisville men’s coach, told police he had been drinking in a Louisville restaurant and had sex with Karen Sypher in August 2003. The police report said he denied allegations by Sypher that he raped her after the restaurant closed. He said later he gave her $3,000 for an abortion.

I read somewhere that Pitino gave her $3000 for health insurance because the woman claimed she didn’t have health insurance to cover pregnancy. Therefore I believe he wasn’t in cahoots with trying to pay for an abortion (abortions don’t cost $3000 unless you’re getting up into the late third terms and she clearly wasn’t even in her second month of pregnancy). And from other things I’ve read, this woman is of questionable moral ethics. (Doesn’t excuse his behavior of adultery though, but from what I’ve read, he’s working through that with a priest and his wife)
