HBO’s “Girls” hopes to mainstream abortion

by Carder Women’s stories about abortion are slowly, thoughtfully, and carefully coming into the mainstream. And as they do, the word itself – abortion – becomes less stigmatized, more human. This week’s “Girls” was an abrupt and necessary reminder that there is not just one type of abortion experience. Whether it was too abrupt, casual, […]

The “secret shame” of abortion in the church

praying_woman_in_churchby Kelli

Leaders in post-abortion recovery ministry say the church remains reluctant to fully face the impact of abortion within their own congregations.

[Post-abortion counselor Kathy] Rutledge said she once gave her testimony to a group of women at a megachurch in the South and by the end, several women were “practically bawling.” Yet, when Rutledge asked about doing a follow-up, the group’s leader said, “None of my women have had an abortion… and even if they did, they don’t need to be speaking about it.”

That time NARAL held a protest in an empty room

proxy

Apparently NARAL is sponsoring #StopTheBans events across the country today.

In particular, NARAL really doesn’t like the 20-week abortion ban. You know, the one that everyone else does, particularly women.

If indeed a picture tells a thousand words, the one below is classic. It shows NARAL Maryland supporters this morning griping to an empty room….

NARAL founder interview: “Abortion’s not love”

by Carder Toward the end of the in-depth interview, [Terry] Beatley found herself unexpectedly saying: “If you have a message for America, I will gladly deliver it for you…. I will tell your story, the story of deception but also the story of personal redemption.” Beatley recalled how Nathanson paused for a moment before replying, […]

Abortion supporters clash on whether late term abortions are tragic or trivial

151

It was pro-abortion President Bill Clinton who first coined the term “safe, legal, and rare” in the early 1990s to describe his supposedly moderate view on abortion.

The phrase served Clinton well during the years-long partial birth abortion debate, making him sound reasonable even as he vetoed a ban against the heinous procedure twice. The conflicted masses liked it as well.

But abortion zealots got stuck on that word “rare.” As proponent Jessica Valenti wrote in The Guardian last year:

  • Clinic Quotes says recent polling reveals more Americans want stricter laws on abortion:

In 2015, 34% of Americans say they are satisfied with current U.S. abortion policies. This is the lowest percentage since Gallup first asked the question in 2001…. Americans who say they are dissatisfied with current abortion policies were asked a follow-up question to learn if they are dissatisfied because they want current abortion laws to be stricter or less strict. This year, of those who are dissatisfied, twice as many prefer stricter rather than less strict laws: 24% want stricter laws, while 12% want current abortion laws to be less strict.

UK writer: Pro-lifers should fix misogyny before banning abortion

by Kelli It seems to me that there are better ways to tackle the issue of why some women feel they have to terminate otherwise healthy pregnancies; namely, by targeting the communities in which such misogyny is not just tolerated but encouraged, often with threats of violence. It is unacceptable that leaders of these societies […]

Planned Parenthood celebrates feminism with a photobombing pink stuffed uterus

2015-02-23_1611

Planned Parenthood has partnered with “riot grrrl” feminist indie rock band Sleater-Kinney on tour to sell t-shirts, make it rain condoms, get people to sign a pro-abortion pledge, and promote the hashtag #Riot4Repro.

The pro-life movement loses two heroes

20140516_225417_HDROn the same day, February 20, the pro-life movement lost two of its heroes, Dr. Jack Willke and Brother Paul O’Donnell.

I was honored to know both and to be close friends with Bro. Paul. The photo right is us at a wedding last year. His death at the youthful age of 55 came as a shock, but it happened peacefully during his sleep, which brings some comfort, along with knowing he now lives on in blissful happiness of which we cannot yet fathom.

You can read Bro. Paul’s obituary here.

Woman says she owes her life to her mother’s abortion

by Carder I should note here that I am unequivocally, adamantly pro-choice. But I’ve never reacted with outrage at people who are anti-abortion. Unlike those who, say, oppose gay marriage, I don’t think anti-abortion advocates are acting from a place of closed-minded hate. I think that, in addition to ignorance on women’s rights, they are […]

Stanek weekend Q: Should babies be banned from certain events?

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is said to want babies banned in the wake of being forced to sit next to crying baby North West at a runway show during New York’s Fashion Week last week: A source told Radar Online, “Anna doesn’t think fashion shows are appropriate for very young children such as North West. Megachurch pastor: Christians, don’t be passive about abortion

by Kelli

David-Platt-family

What we believe about who God is and how God creates doesn’t leave room for political or moral neutrality on abortion.

I look out at the Christian landscape and our culture today and I’m encouraged on one hand when I see Christians addressing some of these issues like poverty or sex trafficking. These are issues we need to address in our culture and our culture will applaud us for addressing [them] but I’m concerned when I see the same Christians or church leaders who are passionate about those issues are passive when it comes to issues like abortion or so called same-sex marriage, issues that will bring us into much greater contention in our culture.

  • Wesley J. When eugenic abortion becomes personal

by Kelli All I knew about abortion then was that Down’s syndrome is the most common reason for a termination. “Drunk” writer says “The Mindy Project” needs “funny” abortion

  • ProLife NZ says just as the word “abortion” is used less and less in favor of other terminology, the culture of death is now searching for a term to replace “suicide”:

[A] survey asks readers what they think of the following terms: self-deliverance, dying with dignity, rational suicide, humane self-chosen death and a freshly-minted euphemism, dignicide.”… However, after mulling over the proposed words, I must say that “dignicide” has some merit. This coinage means not death with dignity, but the death of dignity – which is exactly what assisted suicide is.

Wendy Davis trolls for Planned Parenthood speaking gigs in incredible shrinking woman video

2015-02-12_1143b

The Houston Chronicle has posted an article on Wendy Davis’s new aspiration of “testing out professional speaking” after her gubernatorial effort in Texas bombed:

Davis, a former Democratic state senator from Fort Worth, recently began an “exploratory” relationship with the American Program Bureau….

“We’re trying to determine whether or not we can do the job for her, so we have not made any contractual relationship yet,” said Bob Davis, senior vice president at the agency.

The bureau primarily is pitching Wendy Davis to college and community groups as an authority on women’s health and education issues.

  • At New Feminism, Jennifer Lahl decries California’s new bill that would allow birth certificates to become politicized “by allowing each parent to self-identify as mother, father, or simply ‘parent.'” Lahl argues that this could potentially do a great disservice to “adoptees and those born of anonymous donors”:

The birth certificate legally documents who a child’s parents are. That is, who the birth mother and birth father are. It is a record of who is genetically related to a child. It is not intended to be a means by which adults decide what they want to be called. Rather, it answers the question, who can this child’s beginning be traced to? Who gave birth? Who died?

Gallup: Americans want stricter abortion laws; satisfaction with current policy plummets

But pro-abortion groups have brazenly turned their own taxpayer squanderage into an attack against pro-life legislation….

The largest unreached people group: Where are the missionaries?

We don’t tend to think of the pre-born as an “unreached people group.” One reason is that definitions of “unreached peoples” were formulated at a time when many evangelicals were divided over when life begins and still held to what Al Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, admits were “embarrassingly liberal positions on […]

On February 3, a group of Millennials with Students for Life of America paid a second visit to the Washington, D.C., office of Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.

Ellmers calls herself pro-life but infamously torpedoed a vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act two weeks ago, a bill that would protect babies 20 weeks and older from abortion.

On February 4, a homeowner gone wild attacked a team of Created Equal’s young pro-life activists who were demonstrating outside Beechcroft High School in Columbus, Ohio, as school was being dismissed.

Video of the incident shows the man, identified as Curtis Hall, crossing the street to berate Created Equal’s Josh Bertsch and Jami Beer (pictured with police officer below left and middle) before stealing and destroying their signs.

Measles outbreak draws attention to aborted fetal cells in vaccines

jenny-mccarthy-vaccines-the-view_69447_990x742The issue of childhood vaccinations provides a rare meeting place for liberals and conservatives.

There is no shortage of progressives like Robert Kennedy, Jr. who champion the anti-vaccination movement.

But there is also a contingent of conservatives who oppose it as well. As noted by Vox:

They are by no means guided by a singular ideology. They may be the vaccine-hesistant Amish, vaccine-refusing Christian Scientists, Jenny McCarthy acolytes, granola crunchers who don’t want to put “unnatural” things in their kids’ bodies, or simply worried parents who delay immunizing their children.

And there are also pro-lifers.

Until now pro-life opposition to vaccinations hasn’t gotten much airplay.

It has been two weeks since GOP House leaders torpedoed the 20-week abortion ban, and I’m madder than ever

136048906-speaker-of-the-house-rep-john-boehner-listens-to.jpg.CROP.promo-mediumlarge

Two weeks ago today Republican House leaders outdid themselves on the scale of betrayal by suddenly pulling a vote on the Pain Capable 20-week abortion ban the day before 500,000 pro-lifers to whom they’d promised that vote descended on Washington for the March for Life.

I was pretty angry that day, and, if anything, I’m angrier today. I’m not alone in wanting the political scalp of turncoat ringleader Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (pictured above with Speaker John Boehner) and whoever all her allies are found to be.

Some have been outed: Reps. Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania and Jackie Walorski of Indiana. At least one other is now trying to disclaim responsibility.

They’re running scared from the avalanche of pro-life anger.

The failure of this very modest amendment says a lot about the state of abortion politics in Britain.

The Left-wing establishment could not let it pass because it cannot tolerate the concept of any limit on access to abortion whatsoever. It proclaims that it wants abortion to be safe, legal and rare. But it regards abortion as a fundamental human right if not a positive assertion of a woman’s freedom to control her own destiny – and any attempt to constrict a human freedom is, obviously, a betrayal of that freedom in principle. In trumpeting the right of abortion over any wider concerns about, say, its effects upon society, gender relations or (Heaven forbid) the welfare of the unborn child itself, the establishment Left has made its position as plain and bold as possible.

Abortion in all circumstances and for whatever reason is a-okay.

It is often suggested that pro-lifers are religious fanatics who won’t give an inch, while pro-choicers are moderate humanists. The situation is far more contrary than such clichés suggest….

The Left-wing establishment does not approach abortion with the sober minds of liberal pragmatists balancing one set of rights against another, but as fundamentalists who can accept no opposing view. The abortion industry has become their Moloch, and they will give it whatever it demands.
