Christianity helped to change pagan views of children

by Carder Various pagan authors describe children as being more like plants than human beings. And this had concrete consequences. Well-to-do parents typically did not interact with their children, leaving them up to the care of slaves. Children were rudely brought up, and very strong beatings were a normal part of education. In Rome, a […]

  • Secular Pro-Life has a well-written article delving into the art of analyzing polling data with a critical eye. Can pollsters manipulate emotions, and therefore results, by wording questions in a certain manner? The short answer is yes:

By name? Roe v. Wade is popular. By effect? It’s toxic. The key is to make defenders own the toxicity. (Related: It’s also important to help Americans realize how many of them already oppose abortion, because media bias causes us to significantly over-estimate the popularity of the pro-choice movement.)

And that’s really all you need to know about American opinion on abortion. When they see the facts, Americans still make the right choice.

Buddy the Cat important, abortion not so much

Last night while researching my “Pro-life princess bride” post, I had an odd email exchange with blogger Marlene at Royal Musings.

Marlene had some pictures posted of Katie Walker’s wedding I thought I might like to use.

According to Fair Use trademark law I know I can post most photos, even copyrighted, as long as I give proper attribution and follow certain guidelines. I even have an ADF attorney on stand-by who specializes in trademark law, and who intervenes when I get emails ordering me to cease and desist, such as I did for the photos on this post, and this one.

But Marlene was so over-reactionary in the protection of her photos, I thought I would drop her courtesy request, particularly since she seemed to indicate she would grant permission if only asked. Marlene’s response to my request:

John Schneider on “October Baby” and the life affirming films he’s been making lately

Jon Erwin, co-writer/director of October Baby, and actor John Schneider, who had a starring role in the film, appeared together this weekend at the Catholic Pro-Life Committee’s annual Bishop’s Dinner in Dallas.

As you can tell by the picture, I got to briefly meet John, who was very nice.

I’ve been curious about Schneider’s thought processes these days. The former Dukes of Hazzard heartthrob has been making some interesting film choices of late, such as pro-life bookends, Doonby and October Baby; the soon-to-be-released pro-family film, Hardflip; and the sex trafficking film, Not Today.

Stanek Sunday quote, Tim Tebow: “Regardless of whether I win, whether I lose, whether I’m the hero or goat, I still honor the Lord.”

Hearts of fans of pro-life hero and Christian role model  Tim Tebow broke last night when the New England Patriots rolled over the Denver Broncos, 45-10, emphatically eliminating them from the play-offs. But as Tebow said after the game, “Regardless of whether I win, whether I lose, whether I’m the hero or goat, I still […]

RIP Christopher Hitchens: Abortion survivor, post-abortive father, cognitive pro-lifer

I say, “RIP,” sadly thinking Christopher Hitchens is not. The renowned liberal author and journalist died yesterday at the age of 62 following a short battle against esophageal cancer, since summer 2010. Hitchens spent his latter years evangelizing atheism. So he wanted it known he would not convert to Christianity at the end, and if […]
