Pro-life blog buzz 3-31-15

by Susie Allen, host of the blog, Pro-Life in TN, and Kelli Josh Brahm reprints John Thorp and Clarke Forsythe’s Washington Times article showing how the abortion industry cannot claim abortion is safe with our current system of reporting: Abortion advocates in Congress and in state legislatures claim that abortions are “safe.” Yet numerous, long-standing […]

  • ProLife NZ says just as the word “abortion” is used less and less in favor of other terminology, the culture of death is now searching for a term to replace “suicide”:

[A] survey asks readers what they think of the following terms: self-deliverance, dying with dignity, rational suicide, humane self-chosen death and a freshly-minted euphemism, dignicide.”… However, after mulling over the proposed words, I must say that “dignicide” has some merit. This coinage means not death with dignity, but the death of dignity – which is exactly what assisted suicide is.

  • Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust share several powerful experiences they have had in their campus outreach efforts. One Survivor encountered a rape victim who had a subsequent abortion:

After she told me the circumstances of the assault, I asked her, “Did the abortion help you heal from the rape?”

“You know, I never think of the rape itself anymore, but I think of this every day,” she gestured at the picture of the aborted child.

Planned Parenthood strategist goes rogue

Dawn Laguens of Planned Parenthood abortion group and Carter Eskew of Glover Park GroupPlanned Parenthood executive VP Dawn Laguens (pictured above right) took Glover Park Group’s founding partner Carter Eskew (pictured below right) apart in a drippingly sarcastic August 22 Huffington Post piece, “Thanks for the lecture”:

In a recent Washington Post blog post… Eskew took the reproductive rights movement to task, and not a minute too soon by his watch. In his column, he explains that advocates for reproductive health are mired in “convoluted, poll-tested messaging” and “cannot win the debate as it is currently framed.” He probably imagines he’s doing us a favor, but he instead seems to be just tuning in to a conversation that’s literally happening all around him.

In his WashPo piece, Eskew basically concurred with me, without naming names, that pro-abortion messaging has become a hot mess:

New York Times touches off race war inside abortion movement

reproductive justice abortion-pro-choice-ireland-3 (1)If you didn’t know what was going on inside pro-abortion world, the Huffington Post piece Planned Parenthood Executive VP Dawn Laguens posted on July 30 in response to the July 28 New York Times article, “Advocates shun ‘pro-choice’ to expand message,” would seem out of left field.

As I explained in a blog last week, the NYT article simply elaborated on a decision Planned Parenthood made 18 months ago to abandon the term “pro-choice” as antiquated.

This is where Laguens seemed to go off on a tangent:

Does the language of abortion really “liberate” women?

The word many in our society use when speaking about a baby in the womb changes according to whether that baby will be carried to term and born, or whether that baby will be murdered along the way. A lexicon with double standards has emerged…. WebMD uses the term “baby” to describe an 8-week old […]

Spot the manipulation

One of my favorite tweeters for the other side is RabblePro-Choice. She’s like a wild-eyed pro-abort terrier. Last week Rabble went after pro-lifer marylikesbagles, who had posted the following video with the invitation, “Everyone who believes in abortion should watch this video. It’s only 30 seconds anyways.” Apparently Rabble thought all the hyperbolic use […]
