BREAKING: House to vote on 20-week abortion ban Jan 22: Roe anniversary, date of March for Life

March For Life participants make their way to U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington

From Politico this morning, in an article entitled, “GOP hopes it’s cracked the abortion code: Republicans unite around a push to ban the procedure after 20 weeks of pregnancy”:

… GOP leaders plan to vote on a federal 20-week abortion ban on Jan. 22. That’s the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade and falls on the same day as the March for Life….

Urge Obama administration to act in release of Meriam Ibrahim and children

Meriam Ibrahim and Daniel WaniOn May 22 I wrote about then-eight months pregnant Dr. Meriam Ibrahim, who is facing death by hanging in a Sudanese prison because she refuses to renounce her Christian faith for Islam.

Ibrahim has been further sentenced to receive 100 lashes for marrying a Christian man, Daniel Wani (wedding photo right). Wani is a naturalized American citizen.

The couple’s 20-month-old son Martin is imprisoned with his mother.

On May 27, Ibrahim gave birth early to daughter Maya while still shackled, reportedly. I can’t imagine. Here are the first photos released…

  • The Guiding Star Project points out how “reproductive healthcare” for women is actually biased against helping women who wish to reproduce:

Let me take a pause for a moment, I am not agreeing that abortion should be considered “healthcare”, but I want to talk about other facets of healthcare for women. Why do I (and others like me) have to pay high premiums to find out why I can’t achieve a healthy and normal pregnancy? If it is an equal right for a woman to terminate a healthy, or even an unhealthy pregnancy (for her or the baby), paid for by taxpayers or her insurance, why do I have to pay all costs trying to find out what is wrong with my body?

Court orders National Organization for Women to pay pro-life activists $63k

NOW vs Scheidler lawsuitOn April 29 a federal appellate court panel deemed it “preposterous” that the National Organization for Women would challenge an invoice submitted by pro-life activists for expenses incurred during a lawsuit brought against them by the pro-abortion feminist group that lasted almost 28 years.

The court ordered NOW to pay defendants Joe Scheidler, Pro-Life Action League, Timothy Murphy, and Andrew Scholberg $63,391.45 – a pittance, really - for costs to successfully defend themselves in the now infamous NOW v. Scheidler anti-trust lawsuit, launched in 1986.

During that time the case received an unprecedented three hearings before the U.S. Supreme Court, with the pro-lifers getting support in the form of amicus briefs from unlikely places, including PETA and Martin Sheen, since the issue was free speech.

Read the history of NOW v. Scheidler here. In a nutshell, quoting the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin:

NOW supports Dem study on Internet/text “hate speech” against abortion

We hope that the study will address continuing hate speech that vilifies women seeking reproductive health care as well as websites that encourage violence against healthcare providers at women’s clinics which we believe have led to the injuries and death of clinic personnel and volunteers. ~ National Organization for Women statement on a Democrat proposal […]

How abortion proponents view current pro-life tactics

Robin Marty-As I wrote in my post, “How abortion proponents view the current abortion landscape,” I have developed a collegial relationship with Robin Marty, pictured right, senior political reporter for RH Reality Check.

This past weekend Robin was in Chicago for a National Organization for Women convention, and we got to meet. She had asked if she could interview me for a piece she’s writing.

Through the course of our lunchtime conversation (which she paid for, thanks!) Robin enlightened me on how abortion proponents view current pro-life efforts, particularly since 2010, when pro-lifers began passing laws in unprecedented numbers. Robin agreed to let me share her thoughts. I’m not going to pick them apart, I simply find them fascinating and thought you might, too.

MS NOW prez: Pro-lifers the real problem at clinic skirting the law

JacksonRobertsMississippi’s only abortion clinic continued seeing patients Tuesday, the day after a federal judge temporarily stopped the state from closing it.

Several people wearing florescent yellow vests labeled “Clinic Escort” helped women find parking places and walked with them into the cherry pink building in a Jackson retail district. Outside an iron fence that separates Jackson Women’s Health Organization from the street, abortion opponents stood on a sidewalk and implored women not to end their pregnancies.

Stanek wkend question: Should both pro-life and pro-choice be pro-gun?

A writer at Policymic.com has a provocative thought:

imageMany abortion supporters in feminist organizations and in liberal celebrity circles strongly defend a woman’s right to choose and to control decisions about what happens to their bodies, however, when it comes to a woman’s right to protect their bodies from potential harm, shamefully these same people are silent….
