Paul Ryan’s abortion stance “consistent, not crazy”
Though most of the political squabbling over vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will concern his controversial fiscal policies, the fact that the Wisconsin congressman is also staunchly pro-life guarantees he’ll be targeted with a secondary narrative about being an anti-choice extremist…. “Extreme” in the narrow, strategic sense of how far from majority opinion these views […]

- At least one local North Carolina media outlet has picked up on the YouTube video of abortionist Ashutosh Virmani telling members of Operation Save America that they should “adopt one of those ugly black babies.”

- Big Blue Wave reprints an essay on abortion entitled, “The Cause of Life Can’t be Severed from the Cause of Freedom,” written by WI Rep. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s pick for Republican VP candidate.
Pro-lifers, we need to get busy supporting this ticket.
- Kelly Clinger discusses a recent viral photo (pictured left) of a woman waiting to abort her 20-week twin girls (because she wanted boys) at the Orlando Women’s Center. The photo has received mixed reactions – mostly disbelief and horror that procedures like it are legal and occurring every day here in America. Perhaps this horror is a starting point to help people understand that early abortion is no different – it’s just a matter of size.
- Father Frank Pavone discusses the reasons why he believes the Catholic Church’s invitation to President Obama to attend the Al Smith Dinner in October is “not appropriate at this time.”
Romney, Ryan woo Obama’s vulnerable Catholic supporters
The title of Mitt Romney’s August 9 campaign ad, “Be Not Afraid,” was obviously intentional, a tip of the hat to Pope John Paul II’s favored words of Jesus. The ad itself was aimed at the important Catholic voting bloc, which supported Barack Obama by a margin of 54-45% in 2008.
Romney’s choice of Catholic Paul Ryan as his running mate is also partially intended to woo Catholics. As a social and fiscal conservative, Ryan draws a sharp contrast to pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-Obamacare Catholic Vice President Joe Biden.
Politico goes in-depth today on Obama’s vulnerability among Catholics this go-around:
Abortion supporter: There is nothing, NOTHING to like about Paul Ryan
With so much focus on Ryan’s fiscal austerity (except when it comes to tax cuts for the rich), his extreme position on women’s reproductive rights has faded into the background. Like almost all House Republicans, he has voted in lockstep with his party to deny women access to safe abortion care, contraception, breast exams, and […]
New Stanek poll: Do you know someone who has had an abortion?
I saw a poll question at Abortioneers I thought was a good one:
Do you know someone who has had an abortion?
Vote on the lower right side of the home page.
Sadly, the response there was 100% for “Yes,” albeit only 16 votes. I still thought this was telling. How many people support abortion simply because they know someone – or have been someone- who got one?
So we know now Mitt Romney chose Paul Ryan as his running mate. But only 11.4% of you got the right answer! And somehow I think Kelly Ayotte fans skewed the poll a tad…
Stanek weekend question: What do you think of Romney’s choice of Ryan as running mate?
The waiting is over. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has chosen Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, as excellent a pro-life candidate as could be. Read Ryan’s voting record on pro-life issues here. (NARAL’s assessment is also a fun read.)
In a nutshell, Ryan’s rating at NARAL was 0% in 2011, and his rating at National Right to Life was 100% in 2011.
