  • Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust share several powerful experiences they have had in their campus outreach efforts. One Survivor encountered a rape victim who had a subsequent abortion:

After she told me the circumstances of the assault, I asked her, “Did the abortion help you heal from the rape?”

“You know, I never think of the rape itself anymore, but I think of this every day,” she gestured at the picture of the aborted child.

Obama uses the “Chicago Way” to illegally force taxpayers to fund abortion

chicago wayFour of Illinois’ last seven governors ended up in prison for corruption convictions ranging from bribery to racketeering.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in the state ironically known as the Land of Lincoln.

I doubt people truly grasped the meaning of the Chicago Way when they joked back in 2008 that Chicago politician Barack Obama took it with him to the White House.

But there are now plenty of examples of a lawless president who lets nothing stand between him and his agenda, which includes destroying political opponents and foes alike.

Why the selective outrage over showing abortion victim images?

by Kelli Before the release of footage of one football player slugging his wife, he received a two game suspension. Later, when the footage revealing the actual strike was released to the public… people became disgusted. The slugger was punished twice for the same offense… [and is] no longer allowed to be a part of […]

Duck Dynasty star: Don’t ever vote for pro-abortion politicians

NYT op-ed: Support abortion even if it’s not a “compelling story”

by Kelli By repeating only the gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, terrifying abortion stories, we protect a lie: that abortion isn’t normal. We have learned to think of abortion with shame and fear. We have accepted the damaging idea that a person who wants an abortion must grovel before the consciences of others…. We have to stop categorizing […]

Police officers oppose converting former abortion clinic into police station

rockford-abortion-3-hanging-rubber-chickenPolice officers in Rockford, Illinois, are balking at the suggestion that a police station inhabit the building where a notorious abortion clinic was once located. Per WIFR.com, September 12:

Some Rockford Police officers are refusing to work in one of the buildings city leaders are considering using as a police station. The city wants the old Turner School on Broadway to be the new District Two headquarters.

Stanek one of “7 women working tirelessly to attack equal rights for women”

Affirmation comes from the strangest places.

787971840mActually, the sort of affirmation I might strangely prefer is acknowledgement from the other side, backhanded as it may be, that I’m being heard. The hope is the messaging is getting through to someone over there, somewhere, and that I’m not just preaching to the choir.

Most here know of Amanda Marcotte, a militant pro-abortion feminist who writes some of the most acerbic, jaw-dropping stuff out there. Amanda may be exasperating and even infuriating, but she is refreshing in that she takes her movement’s beliefs to their fanatical conclusions, which they more often than not try to hide.

That’s the set-up for a piece Marcotte just had posted on Salon entitled, “7 women working tirelessly to attack equal rights for other women” (same piece at AlterNet“7 women working tirelessly to screw over other women,”) with the subtitle, “Sadly, these women find it personally advantageous to reject feminism and continue perpetuating sexist social norms.”

Stanek weekend Q: Why is it always the pro-life movement that is told to take on other issues?

climate change pro-life movement

The title of the September 8 USA Today column was a bit misleading.

Author Tom Krattenmaker’s focus was urging pro-life Christians to become involved in the effort to sustain water, the growing scarcity of which, he claimed, is becoming a worldwide problem:

Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson: “Horrible diseases follow immoral conduct”

Feathers flew in the blogosphere after Phil shared with my radio audience his biblical belief that God wants a man and woman to keep sex within the confines of marriage. Not exactly groundbreaking news that a Christian would uphold what the Bible teaches about sexual immorality – but more than enough to stir outrage and distortions from the Left. Predictably, Phil‘s […]

  • Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards has an editorial at CNN which claims that making the birth control pill available over the counter would “push women back to 1950s.”

Compare this recent editorial to a Huffington Post piece written by Richards in 2013 where the FDA’s decision to make emergency contraception available over the counter for women of all ages (including teen girls) was described as “wonderful news” and meant that there would be “no barriers, no shame.”

Archbishop of NY soft on pro-abortion politicians receiving Holy Communion

  • Judie Brown of American Life League discusses an issue that sometimes separates pro-life activists. She believes pro-lifers should not waste time and resources fighting for laws that force abortionists to have admitting privileges at local hospitals. While many pro-lifers rightfully think abortionists fail to meet that standard, and this is a way to expose them and shut down abortion centers when no physician qualifies, Brown quotes ALL’s Jim Sedlak, who voices an alternative opinion:

While pro-lifers get caught up in trying to argue for these kinds of laws, statements are made that you would never expect from a pro-life person. In fact, after the Alabama decision, one pro-life leader, who is one of the strongest fighters for life in the country, actually argued that these laws are needed to protect women who are choosing to have an abortion.

This has brought us a long way from the days when it was clearly recognized that the energies of the pro-life movement were focused on saving the baby, praying for the woman, and finding a way to show women that abortion was not her only solution to her perceived problems.

Wendy Davis reveals her late-term “quieting of the heart” abortion

Wendy Davis late-term abortion

One of the plot lines in a movie I watched over the weekend involved a pregnant mother. The film was set in the 1940s, and I thought how blissfully ignorant were the days before ultrasounds and prenatal diagnoses gave mothers carrying ill or handicapped children the choice to bear them when nature decided or kill them beforehand.

Had Texas state senator and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis been pregnant back then she would not have imagined the late-term baby girl doing flips inside her was “suffering.” Rather, Davis would have put her hand on her belly and smiled. Instead, quoting from Davis’ upcoming book, Forgetting to be Afraid, via the AP:

Shock: Wendy Davis had a late-term abortion

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis, who became a national political sensation by filibustering her state’s tough new restrictions on abortion, discloses in her upcoming memoir that she had an abortion in the 1990s after discovering that the fetus had a severe brain abnormality. In Forgetting to be Afraid, Davis also writes about ending an […]

Late-term abortionist claims pro-lifers are flat-earthers

Planned Parenthood New Orleans abortion clinic site

I wrote on August 22 that Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast was having trouble getting workers to help build its new 8,000 sq. ft. abortion clinic in New Orleans (photo above).

This is thanks to the diligence of pro-lifers, aided in no small part by Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, who in January published a letter in the Clarion Herald promising to blacklist any person or business that “participates in actions that are essential to making this abortion facility a reality.”

Now, after 15 months of trying to line up contractors, a desperate Planned Parenthood has finally turned to “women, minority, and disadvantage [sic] businesses” for aid, yesterday holding a job fair to try to woo them….

Pro-choice rhetoric “fogbound cloud of unknowingy stuff”

by Kelli I’m told that Christians hate science and go for mystical mumbo jumbo. • Americans United for Life board member Monique Chireau was quoted in a piece at the New York Times, but AUL says the NYT failed to report some pertinent information:

Abortion data in the United States is VOLUNTARILY reported by abortionists – and some states don’t report at all.

In contrast to most important health indicators – births, deaths, cancer, HIV, STDs, etc. – there is no national reporting law requiring that abortions or their complications be reported to national health officials or agencies. Our model legislation has been designed to address this void. And to require women and girls be given all the information available before having an abortion or taking a life-ending drug.

NYT writer: 2nd trimester chemical abortions “not happening”

by Kelli One of the tricky parts about medical abortion is that these drugs work all the way through a pregnancy, although they become less effective and the rate of complication rises in the course of pregnancy. So it is not recommended to have a second-trimester medical abortion without the supervision of a doctor. It’s […]

NBC medical expert: Joan Rivers’ emergency a reminder on importance of admitting privileges

joan-rivers-435Comedienne Joan Rivers remains in critical condition today after going into respiratory and cardiac arrest August 29 during what has been described as a “routine throat procedure,” a “minor procedure,” and “outpatient surgery.”

Rivers was rushed by ambulance from Yorkville Endoscopy to Mount Sinai Hospital, located nine blocks apart.

We pray the 81-year-old is restored to health, although there are concerns “the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair,” according to New York Daily News, in which case Rivers allegedly “would not want to live unless she could enjoy ‘a full and active life’” because she “would not want to be a burden on anyone” – a topic for another post.

Int’l Illegal abortion pusher: US has access issues but don’t count on my help

by Carder I know that it’s difficult, because abortion is not accessible to them. But this is not our work. I think this is a problem the U.S. has to solve itself. There are so many resources, so much money available there for abortion rights groups, I think they should be able to work on […]

Transgender world excluded from pro-choice slogans

10299863_643046945782168_2130286851_nThe narratives most often used to spread reproductive justice awareness always center the discussion on “Women’s Rights.” But since I’m not a woman, I’ve felt very disconnected from the spaces I work in….

I was twenty when I had a medicinal abortion, and I have been on some form of birth control since that time. Even though the ability to reproduce hasn’t always been a factor with the partners I have had, I like knowing that I have a back-up plan and hormonal regularity….

Even the intake forms at my local Planned Parenthood are incredibly trans-exclusive! When I went to Planned Parenthood to get birth control I wasn’t given the option to state my preferred name or personal pronouns….

  • At Priests for Life, Alveda King explains why PFL plans to continue its lawsuit against the HHS Mandate, despite the government’s attempt at an “accommodation”:

Bottom line: The government is on its own in this scheme to expand access to abortion-inducing drugs and contraceptives. We want a full exemption from this mandate, so that we have nothing to do with this scheme. If people want these drugs and the government wants to provide them, then the government will have to find a way to connect with them without our help. Our religion requires no less.

Feminist thinks “The Giver” is a slam to pro-lifers

The-Giver-Movieby Kelli

On one hand, the depiction of “release to elsewhere” – especially of one of the unqualified babies, who is given a lethal injection and then dropped down a chute — could surely be used as grist for organizations who are deemed pro-life. (Especially given that in real life, abortion foes often use jarring images of fetuses to further their claim that abortion is murder, despite the fact that such images misrepresent the reality of abortion.)

On the other hand, the suggestion that birth control and family planning are necessary in a world of limited resources are in keeping with pro-choice sentiments. Further, the focus on “unqualified” babies who are at least several months old – not on embryos, fetuses, or zygotes (what those on the “pro-life” side often call “life”) – indicates that this “release” is NOT the same thing as abortion. (Thus, the story is much different from the one told by the likes of Rand Paul — the horror at ending a life is not focused on the contents of a pregnant woman’s uterus, but on a functioning, breathing, fully formed human baby.)

Star gets testy when “Obvious Child” billed as “abortion rom-com”

Jenny Slate in the abortion rom-com Obvious Child

As commenter Christina noted on Facebook (a line I stole on Twitter), “Let’s make abortion the central theme of a comedy, then pretend we’re not trivializing it and trying to make it funny.”

But that’s exactly what the star of a romantic comedy about abortion is trying to say.

You’ve often said that people who disagree with you should “go away, and learn how to think.” I’ve tried to learn to think, over the years, but perhaps I am naive in some ways. But one of things I’ve concluded is that ethical philosophy can’t be done in a sterile environment — that our humanity, our intuition, our empathy, in fact, must be recognized as a source of ethical insight if we want to think well. Perhaps you believe that your position on abortion and down syndrome is logically valid. But I wonder if you’re kept awake at night by the revulsion that comes with being the champion of killing.

Seventy-five. That’s how long I want to live: 75 years….

[L]iving too long… renders many of us, if not disabled, then faltering and declining, a state that may not be worse than death but is nonetheless deprived. It robs us of our creativity and ability to contribute to work, society, the world. It transforms how people experience us, relate to us, and, most important, remember us. We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic….

My father illustrates the situation well. About a decade ago, just shy of his 77th birthday, he… had a heart attack, which led to a cardiac catheterization and ultimately a bypass. Since then, he has not been the same. Once the prototype of a hyperactive Emanuel, suddenly his walking, his talking, his humor got slower.

Today he can swim, read the newspaper, needle his kids on the phone, and still live with my mother in their own house. But everything seems sluggish. Although he didn’t die from the heart attack, no one would say he is living a vibrant life. When he discussed it with me, my father said, “I have slowed down tremendously. That is a fact. I no longer make rounds at the hospital or teach.” Despite this, he also said he was happy….

But parents also cast a big shadow for most children. Whether estranged, disengaged, or deeply loving, they set expectations, render judgments, impose their opinions, interfere, and are generally a looming presence for even adult children. This can be wonderful. It can be annoying. It can be destructive. But it is inescapable as long as the parent is alive. Examples abound in life and literature: Lear, the quintessential Jewish mother, the Tiger Mom. And while children can never fully escape this weight even after a parent dies, there is much less pressure to conform to parental expectations and demands after they are gone.
