Pro-life blog buzz 1-6-15

  • Secular Pro-Life has discovered some interesting nuggets in Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report. For instance, PP hails the box office flop Obvious Child as a “major victory.” They also boast of an increased college campus presence, bringing them to over 200 chapters. However, there are more than 4 times as many pro-life college campus groups. SPL’s personal favorite is the fact that PP credits their own organization with preventing an extra 1,000 unplanned pregnancies even though they show a decrease in dispensing contraceptives.

  • Suzy B remembers the remarkable story of a premature baby who was saved by a freezer bag:

Baby Ellis was born at 24 weeks, when he could have been legally aborted. Instead, his parents and doctors fought to save him and he is now a “happy and cheeky” 1 year-old.

  • Wesley J. Smith points out that while Slate is publishing photos of babies just seconds out of the womb, there are “some very prominent bioethicists – past and present – certain… these littlest people are killable – either because they are denigrated as human “non-persons” or because they have terminal or seriously disabling conditions.”
  • Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust show how we can have a conversation with those in the “mushy middle” on abortion, eliminating the middle ground so that they truly choose a side.

  • Real Choice recalls the anniversary of Kermit Gosnell and his “House of Horrors.” The failure of the Pennsylvania Department of Health to investigate complaints was nothing short of a political move.
  • ProLifeBlogs links to The Black Kettle’s post that says 650 babies are euthanized yearly in the Netherlands.
  • Saynsumthn’s Blog tells of the many organized (and fully boozed) pro-abortion celebrations planned around the country, marking 42 years of Roe v. Wade. Some are even hosted by liberal churches.
  • Bound4Life shares their top ten milestones for life in 2014, including the Hobby Lobby ruling as well as pro-life laws enacted across the country, and also some you might not typically see on a pro-life milestones list.

  • ProLifeBlogs features an article from The Black Kettle which states that when the pro-life group Coalition for Life of Iowa applied for nonprofit status, the IRS “sought details about the content of members’ prayers at a Planned Parenthood” and “demanded that the group refrain” from doing so. They later dropped the demand when the group sought assistance from the Thomas More Society.
  • Secular Pro-Life examines the three ways in which the pro-choice side “corrupts” the abortion debate through use of dishonest language.
  • Wesley J. Smith says human cloning has arrived, and just as expected, scientists and reporters are giving inaccurate information about the process:

The unfertilized egg is not turned into stem cells. Rather, in the same cloning process as resulted in Dolly the sheep, it becomes an embryo, which is destroyed to obtain the cells. Moreover, the process is hardly common. In fact, this is the first time [it] has worked in humans.

  • Suzy B lists their 2013 Young Leader Awards recipients and nominees for their efforts toward life causes. Congratulations!
  • Albert Mohler writes an excellent article on what the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell reveals about our nation:

… [P]ro-abortion forces found themselves continually forced to argue that Dr. Gosnell’s house of horrors was an exception and that abortion is not really at issue in the entire Gosnell trial… but it is an impossible point to make. The babies murdered in Dr. Gosnell’s “clinic” were not visiting a pediatrician. They were born only after so-called “botched abortions.” …

While the trial was not an open debate about the morality of abortion, that issue is what every thoughtful person recognizes is at stake — which is precisely why the pro-abortion movement had to insist, over and over again, that the morality of abortion is not the issue.

Here is a clue: When you have to argue at every turn that the issue is not abortion, the issue is abortion.

  • Pro-Life New Mexico features statements made by Tara Shaver in front of Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque. New Mexico allows abortion all nine months of pregnancy and does not regulate or inspect its abortion facilities. How many Gosnells might be in NM?

Today! “Ask Them What They Mean By ‘Choice’” Blog Day

FINAL UPDATE, 1/24, 5:30a: I continued to receive requests to participate in our “Ask Them What They Mean By ‘Choice'” Blog Day from pro-lifers even as the day ended. I have updated the list to showcase the 111 pro-life bloggers who used January 21 to expose “choice” as the code word for killing preborn innocence children with only 2-1/2 days notice.

NARAL posted its list of 90 participants for its “Blog for Choice” Day that morning, fewer than ours with much more notice.

And, as previously discussed, we completely overwhelmed the pro-aborts on Twitter.

This was quite a positive learning experience for me, and I have used the example of what you accomplished by this endeavor many times the past couple days here in Washington when discussing online pro-life activism with friends and colleagues.

Perhaps liberals owned social media back in the day but no more, that’s for sure. I think this was definitely an indicator that pro-lifers have come into our own for online advocacy of the sanctity of preborn human life.
