Indeed, but Repubicans are by no means different. Deficit financing, which the Republicans have been the kings of lately, results in the devaluation of the Dollar, higher interest rates, “bracket creep” for taxes, and higher costs for us all, which combine into a massive indirect tax.

Bush inherited a Bill Clinton recession, and then we were attacked by terrorosits that were emboldened by an immoral leader in Billy boy. Should Bush have done what BO now wants to do? Retreat, tax, spend, gut the military, promote welfare, ad infinitum? This will create more terror and wreak more havoc on our country. Yes, an Obama preidency will cause God to lift his hand of protection from this country. For once, Joe Biden was right about what would happen during a BO administration.
Had Geroge Bush simply been a Democrat and the current Congress GOP controlled, you and the media would be saying how great George Bush was for bringing us out of that dark day, how he kept us safe for 7 years, how we were winning the war in Irag and that the Republican controlled Congress was at fault for everything.

Reality:
Affordable Healthcare is an oxymoron.
Tell me where exactly do you cut costs?
Pay doctors less? Lower malpractice insurance premiums? Reduce the cost of maintenance and construction of medical facilities? Pay nurses less? Have drug companies reduce the cost of medication? How do you do this except by dictatorial power? Who then will stay in the medical profession, build hospitals, insure doctors, invest in drug research? I’ll tell you who….nobody.
As is so typcial of all your posts they are anything but reality. These things only exist in your mind. The sad part of this is that Democrats, even though they know what they say is bogus, are willing to tell you what you want to hear so that you, an unthinking person, will vote for them, when they know they can’t do a thing to lower health care costs.
So, while health care may be a challenge for some, in the Liberal way of thinking, let’s make it miserable for everyone, of course, instead of the super rich.
Perhaps someday when you grow up you will realize this or, become so cynical, that you cave completley to Liberalism and becomes just like them, willing to exchange truth for lies because you won’t be able to discern the difference.

Oh brother. The corporate media is, for once, acting in the best interest of the country and supporting the one man who can really help us. That’s not bias, that’s patriotism.
Well gee HisMan, since you’re such a bastion of intelligence and wisdom, how do you propose fixing the way healthcare is done in the US? Obviously it’s not working well because many Americans are not getting the care they need due to lack of preventative care. This is evidenced by the ridiculously high charges for ER visits that are given to those WITH insurance because ERs need to get the money they aren’t getting from uninsured patients who go to ERs to get medical care?
I’m still on my parents’ insurance and I had an accident nearly 3 months ago which entailed me going to the ER and it cost nearly $6000.00. I had surgery 2 years ago which involved an overnight stay in the hospital, general anesthesia, and the surgery itself which cost ~$10,000. I was in the ER for 6 hours for nothing more than a dislocated elbow and it cost $6000, where as my surgery was a reconstructive procedure required an overnight stay and was $10,000.
How do you propose we fix the healthcare crisis?

My concern with “universal health care” is that those who REALLY need care (for example: cancer patients or families with children that have special medical needs) will not be given the care they need. My doctor’s office copay is currently $10. It could go up to more than that. I wear eyeglasses and my yearly visit still costs me w/ insurance, at least $90.
There has got to be a BETTER solution than ‘universal health care’.
I also don’t want universal health care to refuse to help pay for a cancer drug or chemo, but offer to pay for physician assisted suicide. That’s what’s happening in OREGON, folks.
And Hawaii dropped their children’s universal health care which was meant to help poor families, because those who could afford insurance were taking advantage of it.
@Jasper: No, I actually have very good insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) but I saw the bills that were sent to my insurance and for my accident I got the bills directly from the hospital- it was an accident that occurred at work and was therefore covered under worker’s compensation but I didn’t have my worker’s compensation information at the time of my accident and subsequent hospital stay.

1. Eliminate legalized abortion.
2. Eliminate the 501c3 muzzle on churches.
3. Put God back in schools.
4. Put homosexaulity back where it belongs, it the garbage dump.
5. Start telling the truth that sin leads to death but God leads to life.
6. Eliminate all government welfare.
7. Shift the social challenges of poverty, drug abuse, prostitution and homelessness to the church and away from the government.
8. Strengthen the military to the point whre no godless nation of Islam will ever threaten us again.
9. Eliminate income taxes and institute a consumption tax.
10. Encourage individual saving.
11. Encourage tithing to the church and synagogues.
12. Eliminate taxpayer fnding of all organizations like NARAL, NOW, and the ALCU and Planned Parenthood.
13. Define consitutionally marriage as between a man and a woman only.
14. Make the press accountable for the lies they tell.

Actually, we are near the end of Liberalsm in this country as it’s destructive effects are now being reaped. The economic effects of the 9/11 attack are small potatoes, tiny, in fact, compared to the red ink run up by Republican administrations going back to Reagan (Ford didn’t do too bad).
It wasn’t a “Clinton recession” any more than Bush Jr. is simplistically “to blame” for our current downturn.

No, I’d be noting that the President is not all-powerful and far from the “controller” that some people seem to think, as far as being “blamed” for stuff. If you are a constitutional lawyer and you know what you are doing, do your fellow citizens a favor and file a lawsuit in your state court system asking the secretary of state to require Barack Obama to prove he is a natural born citizen or be thrown off the ballot in your state.
Then you aren’t the same Hisman as before. You are a new Hisman. The old Hisman wrote a huge post about how we will all be shamed before Jesus on judgment day when he asks us how we lost ours (which is strange since I lost mine playing volleyball and we had a few who lost theirs horseback riding).
And I never really ate meat, I recently became involved in animal rights about a year or two ago. I stopped completely when I was seven but my parents tell me they were hardly ever able to get me to eat meat. I am a vegetarian. It’s my nature.
When my parents did get me to eat meat I would usually throw up or break out in hives.
That’s not bias, that’s patriotism.

Then there is the Groningen Protocol in the Netherlands which allows doctors to euthenize infants who are “seriously ill” or “extremely premature”. The BBC reported in January 2005 that there had been 15 -20 “mercy killings” a year in the Netherlands. Most of the cases involve spina bifida – for the most part this is not a life threatening condition.

The list of “unofficial” rules is: 1) the child’s medical team and independent doctors must agree
2)there is no prospect of improvement and the pain cannot be eased
3)parents give their consent
4)the life must be ended in the correct medical way
In this definition, infants with Down’s Syndrome, cerial palsy, and a multitude of other conditions would fall in this. None of these have any “prospect of improvement” and there is no definition of “pain”. We’ve all seen how “health” of people can be manipulated.
In the Netherlands anyone over the age of 12 can be euthenized. And they have universal healthcare long before euthenasia became legal.
And then there is the state of Oregon who passed the Death with Dignity act in 1997. In 2007 none of 46 people who used the physician assisted suicide were evaluated by a phsychiatrist or pschologist.

Oregon has a “lottery” for healthcare insurance now. For people who don’t have insurance, they have to wait until there names are pulled to get assistance.

hmm..universal healthcare system, to legal Euthenasia, to healthcare lottery…..
Countries that have euthenasia legal:
The Netherlands.
Belgium.
Switzerland.
and Luxenburg and England are pushing for it.
All of these have some sort of Government health care plan. And the government healthcare came first.
And then there is this, straight from the Barack Obama website:

You have to read very carefully on this one. You may be asking yourself what is an Insurance Exchange?

exchange.”
So, you can have what the government offers (don’t you just love the word “similar”? Which part will be similar?) OR you can pay for your own. Exactly who does this health plan benefit? It sure isn’t the poor who can’t afford the private insurance is it?

Jess, not to make any bones about it – I’m a “carnivore.” I like my chicken wings, my ribeyes, my filet mignons, my turkey breasts, my prime rib, pork chops, tenderloins, etc, and once (half my life ago – maybe before you were born) I ate a six pound steak in 19 minutes, along with a salad and a baked potato, not only thus getting it for free but setting the speed record for that establishment.
However, biologically we humans are not really designed to eat meat, as are cats and dogs. Our alimentary tracts are much longer, much better suited to consuming fruits and nuts, etc.

Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?

An open letter to the local daily paper — almost every local daily paper in America:
I remember reading All the President’s Men and thinking: That’s journalism. You do what it takes to get the truth and you lay it before the public,
because the public has a right to know. This housing crisis didn’t come out of nowhere. It was not a vague emanation of the evil Bush administration.
It was a direct result of the political decision, back in the late 1990s, to loosen the rules of lending so that home loans would be more accessible to poor people.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were authorized to approve risky loans. What is a risky loan? It’s a loan that the recipient is likely not to be able to repay.
The goal of this rule change was to help the poor — which especially would help members of minority groups. But how does it help these people to give them a
loan that they can’t repay? They get into a house, yes, but when they can’t make the payments, they lose the house — along with their credit rating.
They end up worse off than before. This was completely foreseeable and in fact many people did foresee it. One political party, in Congress and in the executive
branch, tried repeatedly to tighten up the rules. The other party blocked every such attempt and tried to loosen them. Furthermore, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae
were making political contributions to the very members of Congress who were allowing them to make irresponsible loans. (Though why quasi-federal agencies were
allowed to do so baffles me. It’s as if the Pentagon were allowed to contribute to the political campaigns of Congressmen who support increasing their budget.)
Isn’t there a story here? Doesn’t journalism require that you who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a position where the only way to keep
confidence in our economy was a $700 billion bailout? Aren’t you supposed to follow the money and see which politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation
of mortgage lending?
I have no doubt that if these facts had pointed to the Republican Party or to John McCain as the guilty parties, you would be treating it as a vast scandal. “Housing-gate,”
no doubt. Or “Fannie-gate.” Instead, it was Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, both Democrats, who denied that there were any problems, who
refused Bush administration requests to set up a regulatory agency to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and who were still pushing for these agencies to go even
further in promoting sub-prime mortgage loans almost up to the minute they failed.
As Thomas Sowell points out in a TownHall.com essay entitled “Do Facts Matter?” ( http://snipurl.com/457townhall_com%5D ): “Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago.
So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury.”
These are facts. This financial crisis was completely preventable. The party that blocked any attempt to prevent it was … the Democratic Party. The party that tried to
prevent it was … the Republican Party. Yet when Nancy Pelosi accused the Bush administration and Republican deregulation of causing the crisis, you in the press did not
hold her to account for her lie. Instead, you criticized Republicans who took offense at this lie and refused to vote for the bailout! What? It’s not the liar, but the victims of the
lie who are to blame?
Now let’s follow the money … right to the presidential candidate who is the number-two recipient of campaign contributions from Fannie Mae.
And after Freddie Raines, the CEO of Fannie Mae who made $90 million while running it into the ground, was fired for his incompetence, one presidential candidate’s campaign
actually consulted him for advice on housing. If that presidential candidate had been John McCain, you would have called it a major scandal and we would be getting stories
in your paper every day about how incompetent and corrupt he was. But instead, that candidate was Barack Obama, and so you have buried this story, and when the
McCain campaign dared to call Raines an “adviser” to the Obama campaign — because that campaign had sought his advice — you actually let Obama’s people get away
with accusing McCain of lying, merely because Raines wasn’t listed as an official adviser to the Obama campaign. You would never tolerate such weasely nit-picking from a Republican.
If you who produce our local daily paper actually had any principles, you would be pounding this story, because the prosperity of all Americans was put at risk by the foolish,
short-sighted, politically selfish, and possibly corrupt actions of leading Democrats, including Obama. If you who produce our local daily paper had any personal honor, you would
find it unbearable to let the American people believe that somehow Republicans were to blame for this crisis. There are precedents. Even though President Bush and his
administration never said that Iraq sponsored or was linked to 9/11, you could not stand the fact that Americans had that misapprehension — so you pounded us with the fact that
there was no such link. (Along the way, you created the false impression that Bush had lied to them and said that there was a connection.)
If you had any principles, then surely right now, when the American people are set to blame President Bush and John McCain for a crisis they tried to prevent, and are actually
shifting to approve of Barack Obama because of a crisis he helped cause, you would be laboring at least as hard to correct that false impression. Your job, as journalists, is to
tell the truth. That’s what you claim you do, when you accept people’s money to buy or subscribe to your paper. But right now, you are consenting to or actively promoting a
big fat lie — that the housing crisis should somehow be blamed on Bush, McCain, and the Republicans. You have trained the American people to blame everything bad — even
bad weather — on Bush, and they are responding as you have taught them to. If you had any personal honor, each reporter and editor would be insisting on telling the truth —
even if it hurts the election chances of your favorite candidate. Because that’s what honorable people do. Honest people tell the truth even when they don’t like the probable
consequences. That’s what honesty means . That’s how trust is earned.
Barack Obama is just another politician, and not a very wise one. He has revealed his ignorance and naivete time after time — and you have swept it under the rug, treated it
as nothing. Meanwhile, you have participated in the borking of Sarah Palin, reporting savage attacks on her for the pregnancy of her unmarried daughter — while you ignored
the story of John Edwards’s own adultery for many months. So I ask you now: Do you have any standards at all? Do you even know what honesty means?
Is getting people to vote for Barack Obama so important that you will throw away everything that journalism is supposed to stand for?
You might want to remember the way the National Organization of Women threw away their integrity by supporting Bill Clinton despite his well-known pattern of sexual exploitation
of powerless women. Who listens to NOW anymore? We know they stand for nothing; they have no principles.
That’s where you are right now.
It’s not too late. You know that if the situation were reversed, and the truth would damage McCain and help Obama, you would be moving heaven and earth to get the true
story out there. If you want to redeem your honor, you will swallow hard and make a list of all the stories you would print if it were McCain who had been getting money from
Fannie Mae, McCain whose campaign had consulted with its discredited former CEO, McCain who had voted against tightening its lending practices.
Then you will print them, even though every one of those true stories will point the finger of blame at the reckless Democratic Party, which put our nation’s prosperity at risk so
they could feel good about helping the poor, and lay a fair share of the blame at Obama’s door. You will also tell the truth about John McCain: that he tried, as a Senator, to do
what it took to prevent this crisis. You will tell the truth about President Bush: that his administration tried more than once to get Congress to regulate lending in a responsible way.
This was a Congress-caused crisis, beginning during the Clinton administration, with Democrats leading the way into the crisis and blocking every effort to get out of it in a timely fashion.
If you at our local daily newspaper continue to let Americans believe — and vote as if — President Bush and the Republicans caused the crisis, then you are joining in that lie.
If you do not tell the truth about the Democrats — including Barack Obama — and do so with the same energy you would use if the miscreants were Republicans — then you are not
journalists by any standard. You’re just the public relations machine of the Democratic Party, and it’s time you were all fired and real journalists brought in, so that we can actually
have a news paper in our city.

Obama says that he would support a ban on partial-birth abortion if it has enough loopholes in it to make it meaningless. But Obama would not support any such law. How do I know? Because he told Planned Parenthood that the first thing he would do as president is sign the FOCA into law. And the FOCA would legalize partial-birth abortion and invalidate any other anti-abortion legislation.
But, it’s not as if Obama supporters care that their guy is a lying piece of trash. They only care that he’s a pro-abortion socialist. Everything else is just details.

The government will pry into our bedrooms and arbitrarily censor and ban any film, television program, book, magazine or website etc those in charge consider “indecent”, even though not every one agrees on what is indecent.
Contraception will be illegal, yet abortions will only INCREASE, and a black market in contraceptives will emerge.
Abstinence only sex education will NOT lower the rates of teenage pregnancies and STDs.
This will be hell on earth, not an earthly paradise.
FYI, Phil Berg, the lawyer who sued claiming Obama’s not US-born, is a “911-Truther” who has argued ON AL-JAZEERA that Osama bin Laden was not behind 911, and filed a racketeering suit against the Federal Government on behalf of one of the 911 victims.
And his suit against Obama was dismissed.

A local doctor volunteered his services in a low income community, offering free prenatal care. The women didn’t come in.

I often make the fire dept. analogy. Yes we have fire depts. But we also have to take responsiblity for protecting our homes from fire i.e. using smoke alarms and extinguishing candles. We can’t expect the fire dept. to be solely responsible for our homes and safety.
The same is true where our health and health care providers are concerned.
@Mary: Please point out where I said “socialized healthcare is the answer”.
Please also note my question was not addressed to you but to HisMan because of his comment at 10:56AM on October 26th 2008. I want *his* response because he seems to have all the answers to everything.

find new health-care, that’s the beauty of it not being run by the government, you can find another plan.
Even where I work, there are multiple plans to choose from.

I didn’t say you said socialized health care was the answer. You said in your 6:38PM post that Hisman did not begin to answer how to fix our healthcare system without resorting to socialized healthcare.
My post was just meant as a general commentary on socialized as opposed to competition driven health care.
I’m aware your question was not addressed to me but this is an open forum and I was giving an opinion on something you mentioned in your post.
As for Hisman I would also be interested in his opinion and await it. I was just giving my perspective.
@Jasper: You’re still misunderstanding me. My insurance is excellent- it covered ALL of my expenses. The reason I know how much this stuff cost is because I got bills from the hospital because my accident was a worker’s compensation issue- I was hurt while working.
However- had I not been insured and I wasn’t at work when I had my accident and hurt my arm I would have been out nearly $6000, BUT that was not the case because I had my private insurance courtesy of my dad (which I lose in May if I graduate and hopefully I’ll have a job by then with benefits) AND it was a worker’s compensation thingie.
@Mary: I understand now. Sorry for being snippy. I’ll expound on my opinion as soon as HisMan writes…but if he doesn’t respond within the next day or so I’ll just assume he doesn’t give a rat’s arse and doesn’t have the decency to respond- then I’ll say my opinion on the matter. ^_^
